OK, one problem I've found with Crusades is that when they're sent in one at a time they tend to get murdered. But when different Christian factions send them all at once they tend to start wars.
In my current game as the English I sent a Crusade to Palestine. My allies the French did the same. Together we battled our way through the holy land and laid siege to Jerusalem. Up to that point things were going great.
Then the problem: Every turn we kept trading the province back and forth. One turn I'd get a message saying that the French were on a mission from God and would I please turn over the province peacefully. When I did so, the next turn I'd get a message saying my crusaders had arrived and the French would turn it back over to me.
This went on for four turns until Jerusalem finally fell. U*nfortunately the game seemed to take this as an act of war, and before I knew it I was at war with the French. There was no way for me to avoid this - I could not move my Crusade, or disband it. Reloading the game and assaulting Jerusalem gave the same result - a declaration of war between me and France.
The same thing happened when the Spanish and French sent a crusade apiece into Antioch. Both went from being allied to being at war once the province finally fell.
This is something that needs to be fixed. A single Crusade is not a viable way to penetrate strongly held Muslim territories, but multiple Crusades seem to be a sure way to start wars between Christian factions.

Hmmm... a single crusade not strong enough to penetrate a muslim held land? Hmmm.... why not reinforce the crusade with... say... three stacks of Angry, redfaced highland clansmen. Worked like a charm for me. I just had to make sure the sea-lane was clear of muslim warships. Bam! 2,300 crusaders, reinforced by 1,800 angry scotsmen!

I have an experience like that too. The French, my allies, was walking thru my lands towards the almohads. When the crusade reach one point the almo... attacked that province which the french was in, I was so thankfull for that cause my army wasnt in the near. The French won that battle and suddenly MY PROVINCE belong to the French and Im in war win them too, and the men in the crusade are "released" from the crusade and can turn against my kingdom.

The crusade has to take the target province. I believe that you get the dialog of whether you want to hand it over if you take it before somebody else's crusaders get to their target as well.

Well, I wasn't particularly intrested in wasting any *real* troops on taking Jerusalem. My armies and fleets had better things to do at the time. I launched the crusade for the sole purpose of gutting the HRE of troops (which it did).
What I didn't want was to end up at war with France. However it seems that if two Crusades land up in the same target province before the castle has fallen then war between the Crusading powers is impossible to avoid.
The problem was that when the castle fell it was interpreted as an act of war.

Are you saying that if you attack a crusade whilst it is in a neighbouring factions province then the Crusade is conned into taking that province and triggering a war with your neighbour.

Had the same problem. The only way to solve this situation is to attack opponents Crusade. I played with Germans and France was making a crusade to the same place (Antioch). You just have to destroy their troops and then make a ceasefire with France. They don't send another crusade if you have already captured the province.
It's stupid, I know.

There you have it, the French didn't want to turn it over the last time. It is the same as normal diplomacy... eventually they won't go on like that.

Nope. I that's not what happend.
If you refuse to turn over a target province to a crusade the two crusades fight. That didn't happen. Both Crusades were just sitting there as the province flipped back and forth. Finally when Jerusalem fell I was suddenly at war with France.
The thing is I didn't want to fight France - that killed my trade for a decade. I would much have preferred for my Crusade to simply fade away or head back home, but that didn't happen.

right so what you are saying is you took it in turns to watch over the seige but when the siege ended and the city fell it put you at war yes?
if so sounds like a minor bug
