Ignoramus
Thats why I keep a DVD with all the game backed up (as folder not as installation).

Spain has a fairly nice geopolitical situation, with not so many threats and they are (as all barbarians) balanced and not so poor any more.
Thrace has a tough living in the balckan triangle.
But as I said before all factions will be fairly balanced. The order is just for the sake of having one. The legiones are reportedly tough in autocalculated, if we had the battles online then the order would be completely different.

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
Yes, Spain is the most "civilized" of the barabarian factions. They have a strong Punic influence, and Asturica, can be defended by a single fort. They have the advantage of terrain.
As for Rome, they have Gaul to the north, but rebels to the South, if they kick out Gaul of Nth Italy, they can use the Alps as their frontier.
-
Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
Strange, I always thought Spain was a weak faction. But I suppose that yes, everything has been balanced.

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
Right, the files are ready (at least I think, knowing me theres probably a typo or two). Just tell me when the mod is ready and I'll send them out.
Turn order:
Numidia
Thrace
Germania
Scythia
Dacia
Gaul
Parthia
Armenia
Pontus
Macedon
Greek_Cities
Spain
Briton
Carthage
Seleucid
Egypt

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
Allright!
So the scripts are ready, and Hellenes suggested we play Medium Size for the units.
While we wait for the mod to be completed and uploaded, there remain just a few more questions before we can play.
(1)
First of all, the difficulty level. All the same to me.
Suggestion: medium/medium so the autocalc isn't too much in favor of the AI (for rebels and you attacking a human faction since the ai controls all the other factions during your turn).
(2)
Second, Myrddraal, how does the game start? I mean how does the first player go about his business. Does he (or she for that matter) simply start a new Imperial Campaign, choose the correct Unit Size (medium) and Difficulty Levels, and makes his first move?
I assume after he makes his moves he then starts the (his) script, presses endturn and at the start of the first turn of the next player (directly following his) he quicksaves and sends the savefile to the next player? (or to you perhaps and you send it to the next player?)
Or do you keep all the scripts and the player before he presses endturn quicksaves the file, sends it to you, you process the endturn and sends the new file to the following active player?
Or, even better, I wait patiently for your explanation when all of us are listening? ~:)
(3)
Have we decided yet how to :
a- Handle diplomacy (trade rights, map info etc.)
Probable solution: This Forum?
b- Make sure everyone uses autocalc all the time?
Since one can recieve a savefile while he/she is at work, it may take some time before he can process his move and sends it to the next player. When he is at war with another human faction, and wins a battle without too many losses, he can be accused of having played the battle manually a couple of times and not using autocalc (the reason why it took so many hours before he send in his savegame).
Probable solution: All in good faith I guess. I propose we all behave honourably and we all treat eachother likesuch thus with respect. So even though there is no one who can check whether one really plays fair or not, we all abide by the codes of honour.
c- How to make sure no one uses any debugging tricks (cheats).
Meaning adding / deleting units or buildings, not showing the map (fog of war ON), etc.
Probable solution: Same as above.
We all abide by the codes of honour. :knight:
Edited to correct some spellingerrors

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
So has the ship sailed on no attacks in the first turn yet?

This was what I wrote up a little while ago on the issue of diplomacy; basically the way diplomacy can be handled through a combination of in-game systems and forums. However, there was a disppointingly low number of replies on the issue, so I still don't know if what I suggested is feasible and what might need to be changed. In theory most of what I wrote is all doable through forums, with some changes.

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
great idea guys :) I have always dreamed about playing mp campaign.
I will bookmark this thread and watch your play (hope you will post some of your impressions here)

I like your ideas! ~:)
Especially the things you mention under "New Ideas". Those are elements in gameplay you just can't get when playing against A.I.!
For making the 'standard' diplomacy rules truly work, you probably still want the answer to your question below. (I'll quote)

Does anyone know the answer to this?
Myrddraal perhaps?
Demanding something indeed doesn't seem to be a problem. Neither does bartering (e.g. "you give me Athens, I give you 100 denarii and map info"), since each player can just 'give away' his/her part of the deal to the other player. You just both need a diplomat present (player#1 gives with his diplomat Athens as a gift to player#2 with nothing in return, and player#2 gives with his diplomat 100 denarii and map info as a gift to player#1 with nothing in return).
The trade-deals and alliances etc. are a different matter, like you described in the different paragraphs.
If it's not possible to force an 'accept-diplomatic deal' in-game, then I guess when two factions decide on something on the forum for their mutual benefit (e.g. trade rights) and one of them can't get it through means of his/her diplomat, they should both just try it until they have what they want? (which may mean never, but that's the problem, right?)
On the other hand, if we can't use the debugging-mode for forcing to accept a diplomatic arrangement, it may be possible to achieve this by using the debugging-mode differently?
E.g. if two factions decide on trade rights in 'real-life', then by using the debugging-mode we can add like say 1 million denarii to faction#1's treasury, let faction#1 offer trade rights and this 1 million to faction#2. Faction#2's A.I. would probably(?!) accept, after which the 1 million denarii can be deducted from the treasury of faction#2.
Nett result: trade rights established between faction#1 and faction#2.
However, this means that the person who has the diplomat needs to know how to use the debugging feature. This in turn could lead to unintentioned mis-usage if this person is very unfamiliar with these sort of things. (unintentioned since the Codes of Honour apply ~;) )
The answer to that may be that an overall referee is appointed, a game-master if you will, to do these editing kind of things (or at least oversee that there handled correctly).
Suggestions anyone?
(Also anyone knows the answer to Geoffrey's question above? About whether or not it is possible to forcibly accept a diplomatic deal?)

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
i think their is a cheat, which forces the ai to accept all offers and demands,
it is mentionend somwhere above in this thread.....

Glad you like the ideas, and thanks for some more info on game mechanics! As I said, I'm not certain how feasible my ideas were (and are), but until there's confirmation one way or the other there's not much more I can do without wasting my time. Once there's more info I can work from there.

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
So are Myrdraal and Raketemensch working together now on a MP mod?
-
Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
I'd love to work with him, but Raketemensch seems reluctant. Its stupid because I'm going to be re-doing work he's already done to make battles.
I think it's because he's put a lot of effort into making a new game engine for campaign, and due to the fact that I've found a way of using the current engine, that makes his own work less valuable, and I can understand that that could piss him off a bit. Maybe thats why...
-
Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
I say we just continue with the original plan in the mean time; playtesting a multiplayer campaign with use of Myrdraal's scripts and Hellenes' and DestroyerOfHope's RTR light mod.
Myrddraal, am I correct in assuming that your scripts are ready?
In that case, we only have to wait until Hellenes and DoH finish and upload their latest version of the RTR light mod.
Can hardly wait to playtest this thing... ~:)

Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
Hey. At present, I am representing Armenia in the MP Campaign, but I will be unable to participate :(
As you expressed interest in the MP Campaign thread, I thought that you might be able to take my place as Armenia.
SECRET STUFF YOU CANT KNOW ABOUT!!!
If you know what's good for you, you won't break it
Anyway, I hope you agree to participate...
Yours,
menander
menander messeged that to me, so i'm gunna take over the Armenia Faction
just think of it as menander (faction leader) is going on vacation and me White Prophecy (faction heir) is gunna take over lol
-
Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
thats fine so long as menander is ok with it
-
Re: RTW MP Campaign - Play Now!
Yeah, good work posting all our secret info there WhiteProphecy ~;)
Anyway, it was about time the alliance was made public. Or you may want to edit that postjust a little. Now.
Ach well, I must leave ye gents. When I get back from my sojourn overseas I will check how you're going.
