Wikipedia:
July 1967 - Hong Kong 1967 riots - Chinese People's Liberation Army troops fire on British soldiers, killing 6.
23 August 1967 - A Red Guard mob sacks the British Legation in Beijing, slightly injuring the chargé d'affaires and other staff, in response to British arrests of Communist agents in Hong Kong. A Reuters correspondent, Anthony Grey, was also imprisoned by the PRC authorities.[15]
29 August 1967 - Armed Chinese diplomats attack British police guarding the Chinese Legation in London
"Don't have a problem" indeed.
Oh well, ancient history I suppose.

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
I shall start playing, once play commences.
I only skipped 160 posts anyway.

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
That reminds me: OP updated.

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
I am quite sure that all of that was simply a "misunderstanding" the future of China and the UK will most definitely be marked with peace. (indeed Hong Kong shall wait for another time)

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
That makes even less sense. That was in 1953! :stars:

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
I though that Drzzt should know about your two countries history before you started to become too buddy buddy.
-
Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
oohhh don't worry, I know all right. I have simply decided that for now we have to bury the hatchet, if I don't have any attack on Hong Kong from this point on then peace shall rule the day!

ATPG, IRL China is still sour with Japan about WW2. Recently a chinese film came out with a more nuanced view of Japan's occupation. The filmmaker has received several death threats and is being called a traitor by more than a few.
Maybe the government is willing to overlook pass slights, but the people usually are not. Heck, they are usually not able to overlook imagined pass slights most of the time. The general population usually has very emotional responses to stuff and blaming other people for our past mistakes and failures is a longstanding human tradition. :clown:
I think that anyone who goes to peacy with his "natural enemies" should have some sort of discontentment event amongst its population. Else, we are going to assist to a few aggressive countries who get a lot of flack while people are busy holding hands and signing of peace and love.

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
I checked what happened between Japan and China this decade, and I saw that relations warmed and it was a prosperous era of trade and cooperation.
That's good enough for me. What the little "people" in China think of Japan IRL has little to do with how I'll roleplay this game. Besides, if I am a slave to history, this game will get boring. Since I'm actually being within a degree or two or reality, I think I'm good.

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
I posted what I posted not to tell you how to play, but merely to explain why the issues Greyblades has brought up can still be relevant. I'm not actually afraid of you being chummy chummy with everyone in the world, O Blitzmaster.

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
Britain also does not plan on being buddy buddy with everyone, but for now China will remain a peaceful neighbor, so we can focus on other things like Russia....

Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread

That's a disputable handicap - care to be cured?
-
Re: Cold War Cataclysm. Sign up thread
You could possibly be in Both, Turkey. Not sure on specifics, but if you had to, you could then leave Nato for a Middle-East Collation.
If we are going to do that though, we have the influence the Arab League (which would be NPC's in the game) to also join.

East Germany offers Military Training and Equipment to anybody that can afford it. We have already setup speacial Liasons in Africa and the Middle East.

Canada would be glad to be cured, we would more then be happy to fund this "protection" with our indefatigable supplies.
