Re: Out of Character thread
What will be really funny is if I get burned =P.
To anyone that wants to get in the Papal Slugfest, I suggest you do some research on Pope Gregory VII, Pope Nicolas II, Henry II, Robert Guiscard and the Investiture Crisis. It is really a great story with some very interesting characters. Why it was never made into a Hollywood Epic is a mystery to me.
Personally I can see Max's and Peter's side of Gregory... they are both right in a way.

Re: Out of Character thread
Wow, every single edict passed, not only that, but 2.10 passed unanimously. Have we ever had that happen before? If we have, I wasn't around for it.
As far as burning at the stake... it would be ironic if Dietrich got the flames, he's got an interesting background, I've been working on it and rewriting it a few times up until now. Finally happy with it, I'll be posting a new short story on him shortly, be sure to check the story thread in an hour or so. ~;)

Re: Out of Character thread
I definitely expect several of us to get burned up at some point. Since all avatars are assigned, there's really no way to avoid it. So, if you've got some aspect of your character that you want to develop by story or in the Diet, don't delay on it!

Re: Out of Character thread
I think everybody should check out the latest story about Dietrich in the story thread. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...00#post1404700 And please, constructive criticism will be highly welcomed!

Re: Out of Character thread
I think its a start of highly intresting story. The chess pieces are starting to take their place´s on the board.:2thumbsup:

Re: Out of Character thread
I think I figured it out. . .Dietrich's true father is. . .
Improbable, but it would tie several story lines together.
Good read, atmospheric and a cliff hanger to boot.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Nope, but an interesting theory. ~;)
All will be revealed in time. ~:)
-
Re: Out of Character thread
There is little doubt in my mind that Dietrich's father is Polish, a merchant perhaps, given the last story. Of course, I have no idea what evil schemes are being planned this time.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Very perceptive Flydude, and you're right, but like you said, what kind of schemes are going on now?
But be careful! Just because Dietrich is scheming doesn't mean he's evil. He's no Servius, and so far he's proven to be nothing but a boon to the empire.

Re: Out of Character thread
Due to a number of things- Lack of time (Starting year 11), inability to write decent stories among other things, i am pulling out of this PBM.
Sorry, but why make it worse for everyone else playing when i could forfeit my position and give it to someone who will be more active.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Nope, Pevergreen you're not allowed to leave. We're hereby chaining to the pbem.
Err..well, no. But in all seriousness there's no reason for you to leave. We haven't had any problems with you at all and you've been an active contributor, which is all we really expect from anyone. I'm pretty sure everybody would prefer that you stay on.

Indeed.
Plus, being able to write top of the line stories isn't required anyway - and thank god for that ~ ~;) - we have other participants doing that already ! :beam:
By the way, Happy Birthday FLYdude.

Re: Out of Character thread
all edicts passed?...
So are we going to to saw Bern down the middle?
-
Re: Out of Character thread
2.5 takes precedence over 2.2 because it received more votes. And we would have to take Bern first before sawing it down the middle, not exactly a given.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Actually, both 2.2 and 2.5 can be satisfied together. 2.2 seems to only require that Sigismund take part in the attack, while 2.5 requires that a Bavarian lead the attack. Sigismund only has 1 command star, while both Bavarian avatars have 2 command stars. So... put a Bavarian in the stack with Sigismund and the Bavarian will be in charge of the battle, with Sigismund participating.
Easy! LOL.

Re: Out of Character thread
Well, that's only if you want to get technical. ~;p

Re: Out of Character thread
I don't know if it's that wise to have two generals of different Houses fighting together in the same battle.
"Ah, here's my deadly enemy, Hans von Hans, why don't I see if he can break this wall of pikes?"
Not that I doubt anyone's intentions, at this stage at least, but avatars are precious, and we don't want them getting thrown away, even for political motives.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Well, I think TinCow was simply saying that they could be satisfied together, but don't have to be. The rules do state that 2.5 over rules 2.2. It's just that if the respective players did want both avatars to participate, it wouldn't be completely bizarre.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Oh I understand its not silly, just that it would only be fair if the second general was asked before battle was joined.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Oh darn-it! Another son of Austria lost??
In seriousness though, I have to be honest and say that I am not enjoying this as much as I did the WotS.
This, I feel, is mainly due M2:TW the game and certainly not the participants (as they’re mainly the same people!).
I am utterly un-hooked by M2:TW. I’ve found it an uninvolving game, plays too fast on the campaign scale, is unbalanced and buggy in battles and I’ve not found anything that makes me want to “not put it down” like Rome or Medieval.
Is this just me? :shame:
This is the main reason I’ve not been as fuller participant than normal, I just can get into the game and I’m not emphasising with any of the avatars. This could be in big part due to the abstraction of time used in the game (which would also account for my feeling that the campaign is rushed).
Anyway, enough moaning about M2! I’m not leaving the PBeM, that’s certain, I shall continue playing to my best and RPing to my best with you all. Perhaps not as much time will be spent on the game portion of it though.
Remember, this is not a comment against ANY of you people involved in this. You are all great, this is mainly a feeling that CA have dropped the ball with M2 and an acknowledgement of my own sentiments towards the software itself.
Perhaps, with a new PC (in the planning stage now), I can up the settings so that the “pretty” outweighs the “content” sufficiently? You never know.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
I'd have to say it's the opposite for me. M2 really combined the best of both worlds for me in regards to Rome and the original Medieval.
I found it almost impossible to get into one single Rome campaign for an extended period before I found the wots because the game was just way too easy. M2 brings in that much needed "oomph" into the ai that makes it much more of a challenge and urges me to play harder and push on with the same campaign rather than getting to turn 50 and saying to myself "..okay, too far ahead, need to start over." like I did with Rome.

Re: Out of Character thread
With the PBM, we need to give it time - we are still not at war with anyone. I have not played HRE in M2TW, but if it is anything like MTW, we should be in for "interesting times".
With M2TW itself, I found it uninvolving initially. But then when I got the graphics setting right (shader 1, no shadows) plus a good graphics card, it became more engrossing. I agree with Lucjan, it combines the best of RTW and MTW. I think the balancing in the battles will come with the patch - I confess I've not played it much since hearing of the shield bug. The speed of the campaign depends partly on play style - don't sack cities (too much), obey the Pope and don't rush the AI; then it should not be too fast.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
I have played with HRE quit lot and that is the reason why my character doesnt think that attacking others is a honourable thing to do for our empire.Trust me,soon they are all coming at us or atleast majority of the neighbouring AI factions. I have been playing an un agressive campaign myself as HRE,where i dont start wars with my neighbours unless they are excommunicated and even then only if pope grants a crusade against them. With fighting only when attacked, still i find myself expanding very rapidly.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Sounds like the old HRE I knew and loved from MTW, Kagemusha. Although in that game, I struggled to survive let alone expand a lot. Prinz Henry shares your character's attitude to warmongering. But for this PBM, I don't see rapid expansion as a bad thing. At least until we all have avatars. We should be able to find enough fun things to do (vs Holy Land, Mongols, America) even if we become top dogs.

Re: Out of Character thread
Personally, I'm enjoying myself. I'm not sure if any of you have played the Avalon Hill board game Diplomacy, but I'm getting a similar vibe. We have the negotiations, the Diet sessions, and then we all hunker down and scribble our movement orders, edicts, and then see what happens.
Maybe things feel a bit listless to some because this game, unlike WotS, didn't open with an election for the executive. Hence there were no opening manifestos and no Consular elections to prime the pump. I'm sure back stage dealings and candidate speeches in the Diet for chancellor elections will add more spice.
Otto's speech was an attempt to enlarge the debate on our long term goals. I hope that we'll get some good arguments going heading into the next election.

Re: Out of Character thread
Is this the right place to ask questions about what you guy's are doing?
I've been reading everything for the last 5 days and I have to say the level of involvement is amazing.
If this si the correct place I have a few questions.
Cheers

Re: Out of Character thread
Hi AussieGiant: yes, this is the right place - ask away!

Re: Out of Character thread
dlain, did Dietrich put up a good enough argument for you? It's an interesting battle of ideals right there.

However, I haven't 'lost hope' yet, I'm patiently waiting for my avatar ! :2thumbsup:

Re: Out of Character thread
When you have an avatar it's much more engrossing, clearly. The only problem though is the same problem wots suffered in the beginning, a numerical limitation on the avatar count.
Now, what's this "shield bug" you're talking about?
I haven't had any issues with the game at all since the first patch.
