Welcome Mikael!
As Andres said, your test has been successful. Congratulations!
ok I am very new to the org and I have a big question.. How do u use the mods and how do u get them to work ?
Hi King Antonius,
May I ask which game you are using? I presume that it will be a Gold Edition, since they are the games which cause the most problems with mod installs.
If you are talking about Medieval: Total War Gold Edition then you can simply download the mod as always. Installing it though, is a little trickier. At first just follow the instructions on-screen. However, when you come to the point when it asks you where you what location you wish to install the mod in question, you have to direct the installer to "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition" rather than the default directory. Press next and let the installer do it's magic! Once it is completed open up M:TW and see if it's working.
If you are talking about Rome: Total War, not Gold, then you need to check your version of the game and compare it with the one required for your selected mod. You can usually find the version required in the thread belonging to the mod in question. You can find out your version by entering the options menu and looking in the top hand corner. If they are the same then you can download it and install it nice and easily.
If the mod requires R:TW 1.0 and you have a higher version (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 or 1.5), that is not Gold, then you will, sadly, have to reinstall R:TW to get it back down to R:TW 1.0. The you can go ahead and install the mod!
If the mod requires R:TW 1.1 and you have version 1.0 then you can simply download and install the 1.1 patch from here. It comes with it's own instructions. Once you have installed the patch, go ahead and install the mod!
If the mod requires R:TW 1.1 and you have a higher version (1.2, 1.3 or 1.5), that is not Gold, then you will, sadly, have to reinstall R:TW to get it back down to R:TW 1.0. After that, simply download and install the 1.1 patch from here. It comes with it's own instructions. Once you have installed the patch, go ahead and install the mod!
If the mod requires R:TW 1.2 and you have either 1.0 or 1.1 then you first need to download the R:TW 1.2 Patch from here. It comes with it's own instructions. Once you have installed the patch. Go ahead and install the mod!
If the mod requires R:TW 1.2 and you have a higher version (1.3 or 1.5), that is not Gold, then you will, sadly, have to reinstall R:TW to get it back down to R:TW 1.0. Then you will need to download the R:TW 1.2 Patch from here. It comes with it's own instructions. Once you have installed the patch. Go ahead and install the mod!
If the mod requires R:TW 1.3 and you have either 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 then you first need to download the R:TW 1.3 Patch from here. It comes with it's own instructions. Once you have installed the patch. Go ahead and install the mod!
If the mod requires R:TW 1.3 and you have a higher version (1.5), that is not Gold, then you will, sadly, have to reinstall R:TW to get it back down to R:TW 1.0. Then you will need to download the R:TW 1.3 Patch from here. It comes with it's own instructions. Once you have installed the patch., go ahead and install the mod!
If the mod requires R:TW 1.5 and you have 1.0 or 1.1, first you need to patch upto 1.2 and then 1.5 in that order. They both come with their own instructions. Once you have installed the patches, go ahead and install the mod.
If the mod requires R:TW 1.5 and you have 1.2 or 1.3, without BI, you just need to patch upto 1.5. It comes with it's own instructions. Once you have installed the patches, go ahead and install the mod.
If the mod requires R:TW 1.5 and you have BI installed then simply download and install the 1.6 patch which boosts R:TW upto 1.5 without allowing BI to drag it down. Then you can install the mod easily and cleanly.
If you want to download a mod for Barbarian Invasion the same principle applies. Compare the version number required for the mod with your version number which can be found at the top right-hand corner of the options menus.
If the mod requires BI 1.3 and you have a higher version (1.6), not Gold, then you need to re-install R:TW and then BI. Next download and install the mod onto a fresh copy of BI 1.3.
If the mod requires BI 1.6 and you have 1.3 or 1.4 then you have to download the 1.6 patch. Instructions are provided along with it. The 1.6 patch also upgrades R:TW to 1.5. After you have done this simply download and install the mod.
If you have R:TW Gold Edition you can, sadly, download mods only for R:TW 1.5 or BI 1.6. You can check the version required in the mod's thread/forum. When you have downloaded the mod simply follow all the insturctions within the installer till it asks you where you wish to place the mod. Change the third part of the command line, which should say "Activision" to "The Creative Assembly". For example, if it by default says "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\" change it to "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\"
If the mod is for M2:TW I sadly, cannot help you - I don't have the latest game. My sincre appologies for this.
Hope this helps/works, good luck, cheers!

Omanes comes to the rescue again!
Welcome King Antonius! Note also that many mods explain how to be installed (in the downloads section, or installation instructions of the mod's forum.
Welcome King Antonius ~
Pay attention to Omanes' guidelines. And as Warmaster Horus said, most mods come with a decent explanation on how to install them.
Most of the time, you'll find said explanation in a file called "Readme" (now, that certainly came as a surprise, didn't it? :laugh4: ), which is exactly what you need to do.
Good luck and have fun !

Hello folks!
Long-time lurker, first-time poster.
My TW history, in a nutshell: I missed out on Shogun, loved Medieval, didn't care much for Rome, and finally, having purchased a new machine, found myself in love with Medieval II.
As an American of primarily Scottish descent, I like to play the English (or, in Medieval II, the Scots, but I have to unlock them first). Currently, I'm finishing up a long fight against Milan for Northern Europe during my first campaign, and learning the ins-and-outs of the new engine. This ain't the first Medieval, that's for sure.
I'm a History major, and my interests range from the Medieval era to roughly the end of the Second World War, with particular emphasis on the Napoleonic era. And indeed, it looks as though I'll finally get to use some muskets in this game (previously, I had to sate my hunger for black powder carnage with cannon, which I am already employing to slaughter my foes en masse).
So that's a somewhat long-winded introduction. Nice to be "out in the open", as it were. I look forward to talking tactics, history, and the remarkable humor that comes out of TW games with the lot of you.
-Aina
