Do you mean that Thorn is currently under seige?
I know DG was thinking of making me count of Thorn but haven't seen him in a couple of days now (mostlikely due to those problems).
Great being count of a seiged city :furious3:

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Second Chancellor's report is up. Overknight, Henry's taken a pop at Duke Otto but it is all in character, of course. ~:grouphug:
One general point: I will be posting annual savegames; people are free to PM me in character with a request if they want their avatar to be doing something he's not. This is particularly true for commanders of Household Armies. There are lots of tricky strategic decisions that may arise and to keep things moving, I will not be consulting people about them unless they are nail-biting. However, I will listen to approaches made to me and do my utmost to accomodate player's wishes for their avatars.
gibsonsg91921, welcome to the PBM. I strongly recommend patching M2TW. Firstly, the patch vastly improves your solo games (the passive AI bug, and the shield bug were both game killers for me). Secondly, I don't think you will be able to load our savegames if you don't patch. You don't have to load them, but you will get more out of the PBM if you do - for example, you can give suggestions about your avatars movement. If you want an Austrian merchant, I will allocate to you Maximillian von Tyrolia - he is the highest acumen of the 3 merchants (and 3 priests) that are to be sent on a trade mission. You get to choose where to send the mission - to deepest Africa or to North Egypt? I think the former would be more fun and also may have less rapacious merchants to buy you out.
I think you are the 5th Elector of Austria, although that title is redundant - we are just going to call you Maximillian von Tyrolia. Or (Mad?) Max II for short.
[b]PS: Parnakes - I did not get a reply from you to my PM and so am taking silence to mean consent. Elberhard is still heading to the east; he can switch to travel home with Jonas if silence does not mean consent!

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
excellent
i am dying to patch it as soon as possible, however my its my moms computer (lol) and she is wary of the necessities of a 650 mb patch that may take hours to download.
Maximillian von Tyrolia, 5th Elector of Austria - nice ring to it

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Hey Econ or someone else.I havent yet patched my game to 1.02 and could someone tell me where the fleet carrying Jonas Von Mahren currently is?I would need this information to write a little story.
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Hi Kagemusha: in 1202 Jonas's fleet blockaded the Venetian port of Rhodes. In 1204, it is off south Greece. I am wondering whether to send the Austrian fleet of 5 ships to escort you in - there are Venetian ships in the area. But the Austrian fleet is waiting for the merchant expedition next turn, so I am inclined not to do so. If Jonas is forced to make landfall in non-German land, it might add to the fun.
PS: If Warluster or Stuperman can turn around a quick battle, they should post here.
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Thanks Econ21.Maybe we should indeed throw Jonas into hostile territory so he could try his luck to go through it or die trying. If you can ship him to safe area i dont mind but going through hostile territory could become intresting.:smash:

WHat save is it? Is it the 1200-end one?
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Thanks for the PM, Warluster: contact me again when you have installed 1.2 and I will upload a new savegame for you.
If Stuperman logs on, just to say Gerhard Steffen is still besieging Corsica, but I have now got cold feet about him assaulting it. It is guarded by three DFKs and a general, but the BHA has no DFKs (hence the bit about needing to upgrade our Household Armies). I am inclined to starve it out until the BHAs reinforcements of DFKs arrive, as personally I would not like to fight DFKs in a town with just spearmen. However, I will defer to the Overknight and/or Stuperman on that. They can check the save to assess the situation for themselves.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/1206-1.zip
I had to jump to 1206 to try to get Warluster his battle (I moved him into contact with some rebels in 1204 without realising that could exhaust his movement points and stop him attacking). I will post a report for 1204 asap.
EDIT: Time moves on: it's 1208 now.
http://www.totalwar.org/patrons/pbm/1208-1.zip
If Warluster can successfully patch his game, fight the battle and upload a save before 4pm Sunday UK time, then I'll accept it. Otherwise I will keep playing and pass him the save when I've done all I can in 1208.
FURTHER EDIT: There's a potential problem with my playing further ahead than where we are in character. For the purposes of public debate, let's keep it at the end of 1202. Things people learn from the savegames and in character PMs should be kept private for now. We should have a period of grieving for Max before moving on. I'll try to keep the Chancellor reports and savegames more in sync from now on, it's just that weekends are my big chance to play.
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Between Econ and OK the pace has been brisk to say the least.
I certainly can't keep up

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Sorry, AussieGiant. There's a potential problem with my playing further ahead than where we are in character. For the purposes of public debate, let's keep it at the end of 1202 (which is what you have a Chancellor's report for). Things from later dates that people learn from the savegames and from in character PMs should be kept private for now. We should have a period of grieving for Max before moving on. I'll try to keep the Chancellor reports and savegames more in sync from now on, it's just that weekends are my big chance to play so I want to crack on.
My personal preference is that reigns should only last a week or two (when Tincow and I played pre-WotS PBMs, we'd often get through a reign in a weekend) Now with the WotS style PBM such a rate of progress is clearly impossible if you get masses of battles like Overknight had. So far, in all of 1200, 1202, 1204 and 1206, I think there's only been a total of four battles. Henry the Peaceful shall be my epitath.
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
It's not too much of a problem Econ. I just suddenly realised I was having time space distorted discussions :)
It 2:00 in the morning mate...you really are "cracking on". And me replying to you is no excuse. I'm in South Korea so it's 10am on Sunday morning ;-)
I certainly prefer the brisk level of progress and it seems the lack of battles is the determining factor. I get the impression your 3 way body slam of the Egyptians has clearly taken the wind out of them. I really did not think you were going to come out of that alive...you put yourself in the thick of it repeatedly!! I liked it!!

No, it's not - I'm being cautious. Thorn is too important to lose, but putting the FHA there is not very good from the point of view of defending the bulk of our Eastern frontier from the Poles.
I have left you with a strong garrison - what Tincow said he would need to hold Adana against all comers (minus two archers). I will beef it up if there is any sign of the Poles approaching. They seem to be milling around Krakow though.
BTW: if anyone is scared of being undersiege tell me - I know from solo experience you can be trapped and it would doom your character. I can avoid such duty if people like, but it woud be useful to have a human rather than an autoresolve to defend key points like Acre, Adana and Thorn.

You're being a bit cautious aren't you Econ, a few deaths keeps the realism up doesn't it?:whip:
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
@Econ, since I don't have the game close to me it's hard to look at it now, but can't the FHA control that rivercrossing that leads to Thorn, I believe that was the only way in for the Poles. Sides if they attack they excommunicate themselves.
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Stig, the FHA was controlling the river crossing to Thorn, but that only defends Thorn - it leaves Breslau and every other settlement in the eastern Reich open to Polish incursions. I think it is better to use the FHA for a mobile defence of our lone Eastern border and rely on the walls of Thorn to protect that salient. This is the kind of issue we should really discuss in character.
I have not heard from Warluster so I am assuming he has not managed to patch to 1.2; he can stand down for now. I've uploaded a new savegame for Factionheir to fight.

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Battle is done :)
I was just about finished with inserting all links to pictures for my battle report when my IE decided to crash...lost all links except for 2 and get to re-upload to imageshack all over... argh.

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
@FH, you should use firefox.
I just got the patch from my GF last night and am now updated. Cool that I'm on corsica, kicking some Milanese ass. Does the patch make it easier or harder for spearmen to fight DFK's? If it looks like a battle that will cripple the BHA, I'm inclined to starve them out.
Once we have Ajaccio (sp) should we onvert it to a city, I'm thinking that if it is a castle that can make DFK's we shouldn't, at least not right away.
Just going over the Diet and govener reports, UI'll prolly have more to add in a bit.

Heh, we were discussing something like this for the last Diet in our Duchy thread, but never got round the proposing it I guess

Naw. Wasn't really IE's fault but mine, because I was too lazy to update Flash on my new rig. Seems the currently installed flash version is quite outdated and causes IE to crash each time it tries to display some flash based ads.

No real difference - they both have large shields, IIRC, so fixing the shield bug just means the kill rates are slower.
If I were playing this solo, I would starve them out. I just find DFKs in cities scarey. But I play solo in a rather slow, lazy way. You do have pavise crossbowmen and cavalry, so you might be able to pull off some clever assault tactics to win.
If the enemy are forced to sally you would murder them off course.
At the moment, I am holding until your own DFKs join you. Feel free to PM me whenever you want to strike. (You can just download the latest saves to see the situation).

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
I'm thinking he wouldn't have too many problems if he were to breach the enemy gate and then shoot the knights (if they decide to stand behind it) with his crossbows to lure them out or make them retreat to town square. He can then encircle the enemy in the square by sending spears from all sides or lure them out of the square by shooting them with xbows while having every street exit blocked with a unit to surround them.
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Just a quick reply that I fixed the computer problems, I will be able to fight again. Without the game crashing on me every other minute.
:balloon2:

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
Alright, the Chancellor's report is now pretty much up to date with the latest savegame. In the latter, we are just starting 1208 and factionheir has broken the Turkish siege of Adana.
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
econ, you can go attack Rheims once excom threat is over, but i probably cant fight the battle today if one comes up
-
Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
No worries - I think we have another 3 or 4 turns before the Papal mission expires. But we can start to maneouvre towards Rheims - it might provoke a French reaction; there are several large armies near Paris. I don't know about you, but I always prefer defensive battles.

Yes Econ and while your handing them out, I'd like to be the Duke of something out there. It seems titles fall of trees out east. :2thumbsup:

That is a very apposite question.
There's an out of character spoiler answer below (again, in character you all don't know nothin).
On another matter: Warluster, do PM me when you get patched to 1.2. I can't hold up the PBM waiting for that, so I am autoresolving your battles against rebels. One function of your Imperial army was to hoover up all the little rebels etc while the Household Armies are busy conquering stuff. (Somehow I thought when we created the Household Armies it was supposed to be the other way round, but anyway... :inquisitive:) That function does not work well if you can't do the battles.

Re: KotR Out of Character Thread V
You know Econ....apart from not being able to get a reaction out of you...:laugh4: ...I'm going to have to read up a bit on your character.
You're Kaiser dude, is starting to worry me, in just the slightest ways.
You have what is arguably a lovers tiff with Otto, you start speaking to your dead father through a magician, you seem to be gaining momentum on a healthy dose of a "Power Trip", and...well you seem to becoming mentally unhinged.
Are you alright over there big fella?
