Germany 2:1 Spain
I can't win, but hey the Germans can!
Spain wasn't great they were good but not great. The Russians were playing like in the beginning of the tournament. The Netherlands, and portugal both would have been no match for today's Russians. Spain is however doing great, and I bet they have confidence now. And rightly so. However it's still the Germans I see winning, though I must say that spain has proven itself a worthy champion and is looking as strong as ever. I still don't see a '64 comming though.
Where's that hairy chap? Post your prediction, Grizz! Then all I need to do is vote for the other team to win the final and hope they win. Then I'll have Turked you from your first place and victory in this tournament is mine! :knight:
No pointless playoff. There hasn't been since '88 or prior.
Well i was planning on voting the same as all you guys :D
seen as you posted first i think your morally obligated to predict first :p
Spain 2-1 Germany
I just think Spain have the better midfield, germanys defence may not be as solid as spains...
If theres extra points i have some more.. something about standard of goalkeeping...
That was going to be my prediction. :wall:
Gah! I shall root for the mighty Teutonic Titans then. Go Lahm and Klosinho!
You do realise though, that you can't possibly win this tournament unless the score will be an exact 2-1 Spain victory? :verycool:
Your closest competitors will post 1-0, 2-0 Spain victories. Those following a bit further behind will pick Germany for the win. All of which will cost you the final victory in this tournament, unless you have guessed exactly right with 2-1.
You could reconsider your prediction to increase your chances...

The Russians were K.O. the second half! They had given up and so, consistently, lost.
The Spaniards play great and have all my sympathy, really. But sympathy has to end one day!
Germany 2 - 1 Spain.
Why?
- The Spanish game suits our Mannschaft. We will destroy their game (sorry folks, no prize for beauty here!).
- The Germans won't be as foolish as against the Croats or the Turks, because the Spaniards are favourited. The difficult opponents proved to be the easier opponents, and vice versa.
- Germans will have - this time - the absolute will to success. There's no way of zombiewalking in the final (see above).
- Germans are ice-cold before the goal. OK, Spaniards aren't bad either.
- The Spaniards are under pressure. Everybody expects them to win. They know that if they lose, Catalonians and Madrileños will start to tear each other apart again.
You see, Spain doesn't stand a chance. Disculpad, quizás otra vez... en 2012...

If my closest rivals all pick close scores then bar a stupid score with spain winning its going to be pretty close at the top, theres not too much in it so someone will probably get in and steal it but... second aint bad

Germany 2 - 1 Spain (AET)
The game changed completely when Fabregas came on, they just opened up more and had more movement and drive. The score would have been a lot higher had Villa not been injured but Torres in his place or Giuza been brought on earlier for Torres. Yeah, that's right, Torres was shocking! He was absolutely :daisy:, missing near open goals and his control,, bollox, he gave the ball away or blundered it so many times in the final third. Guiza showed why he was the highest scorer in La Liga last season. His goal and the build up to it was exquisite, typical Spain. I really hope Aragones starts Torres on the bench, he needs a break, as he can't handle the pressure. Arshavin went completely missing, and Russia spent more time on the turf than on the ball.
:spain: ¡Vidas de España! :spain:
A certain small bear can't spell, or rather he doesn't bother with spelling. But he sure knows his game. Good strikers abound on both sides, and I have no doubt that Germany's defense is going to decide this game - negatively.Quote:

True. But every Spanish goal in that game had Iniesta's signature on it.Quote:

Casillas is a good keeper, Lehman is quite good. But I don't think that it's the goalkeepers who'll make the difference. If Xavi finally has a good day, or other creative minds like Fabregas and Iniesta are thinking outside the box, they might make it. But I think it's going to be German counters, as the spanish will leave space as they push forward, that'll make the decision. And of course they can also make it the French '00 style, as corners and freekicks are their thing too. (Whith guys like Klose who can put thier heads to any ball). Though Guys Like Senna, Fabregas, Xavi Alonso don't need that much luck when they shoot on target from distance.
So am I right in concluding from this thread that there is no 3rd-place playoff?
Anyway, on to the final (where have the other 30 games gone?):
Euro 2008 Final:
Spain 1-0 Germany after 90 minutes.
Going on the form of both teams over the whole competition, the Spaniards should win with ease. Though then again, no one ever wins with ease against Germany; hopefully they should still have the class to win it though.
Germany 1-5 Spain Sure Bet
Anyway... as long as the Germans don't win.
They've already proved that it is possible to reach the final with football that doesn't even come near to the not so flamboyant football of the Greek team... So no need to make anti-football win the tournament yet again.
My apologies, my score is correct after all, my mathematics just aren't. :dizzy2:
I'm curious about the final, I would like to see Spain win, but Germany might just ruin this, I do not believe those who say Germany's defense is weak, they're the same kind of people who predicted 3-1 for Russia vs. Spain. :inquisitive:
It's a shame they don't have the third-place game. Yeah, it's meaningless, but it's usually a lot more entertaining than the actual title game. Both teams can just go out and play, instead of being under pressure and playing to not lose. 4-3 with lots of free-flowing play, as opposed to boring, defensive 0-0 all the way to penalties. The third place WC game is usually a blast.
I'll say 4-1 to Spain.
Just to be different. And because after the first goal against, Germany will lose patience, and get a couple of red cards against them. Zidane style.
I got so many reasons for wanting Germany to win. One thing is that I could lose £20 as a result if Spain win the Euros, I've been the secondary school football bookie since Year.8. My starting odds on Spain was 1/10. Two of the guys betted a pound each and now it doesn't looks like a good deal after all. I've been saving the money to buy the new Liverpool shirt.
So Come On Germany!:2cents:
I'm thinking Germany 'll take it down.
2 - 1 Germany.
:balloon2:
Lol, sorry but most predictions are just hilarious. Everybody thought that Portugal would win against Germany, Netherlands would most easily win against Russia, almost everybody thought Italy would win most easily against Spain, Croatia against the Turks, Italy against the Netherlands (overall predictions table, group C anyone?), Germany against the Croats, and so on, and so on...
Sorry, but the easiest way of predicting the outcome of a football game right is just to look at what the passionate football experts say, and then turn it 180°. You can trust me on that, I'm truly no football expert. :laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
Final:
Spain 3-1 Germany
Looks like I picked the right team for once :beam:
Germany 3 : 2 Spain
Should've done it then, so you wouldn't be stuck close to the bottom of the leaderboard. ~;pQuote:

But hey, all those upsets, all those very temporary enjoyed statuses as new favourites, are what has made this such a fun tournament. Far from feeling silly or humbled, the footy experts/lovers are enthralled and delighted! :beam:
Such a comeback for a sense of romanticism and passion in football!
Compare with other recent tournaments:
- this year's Champion's League - the two richest clubs from the richest league play the final.
- Champion's League in general - it's nowadays a playground for just the richest four from the Premier League, plus the top two, top three and top one from Spain, Italy and Germany respectively.
- national championships - in all major leagues, next year's winners will again be drawn from the same old tired list of four in England, two in Spain, two in Scotland, one in France, one in Germany, one in the Netherlands.
- Last World Cup produced the predictable semi-finalists Germany, Italy, France, Portugal. Perennial favourites Argentinia and Brazil lost these teams in the quarterfinals. Not a lot in the way of surprise.
:snore:
So the European Championships is where it's at for footy lovers! The merciless slaughter of big nations and (temporary) favourites, starting with England in the qualification round and continuing all throughout the tournament, is such a blessing for the sport!
The one thing experts overlooked maybe, is that the EC is a tournament where traditionally a small underdog nation takes the prize, or at least wreaks huge havoc on the favourites. Though it could be argued, that even in this regard, this tournament is a surprise: no upstart's fame proved to be long-lived in this tournament.
Well said Louis.
Given how many times I've predicted boring nil-nil draws and uneventful easy victories for the favourites it's been a delight to have been proved wrong so many times. I'm very glad in particular that I was proven wrong about the semis always being boring and I hope to be wrong once again about the final; at least with one fantastic attacking side against another with occasional flashes of excellence and with at least one highly suspect defense there should be the potential for a fantastic high-scoring final. I just generally tend to bet on the most boring outcome since then having watched 90 minutes of tedium isn't a total waste.
España 2 -1 Germany
Vamos España!!! vamos a bailar el flamenco hasta el final!!! España Campeona de Europa!!!

Final:

When in doubt, always rely on Germans.
The Premierleague are really domnating now, in the previous decade it was the Italians, but since Liverpool's trumpht in 2005 the big four just looked stronger and stronger.
As much as I am a Liverpool fan the Premierleague is far too predicatable, Liverpool have been a disappointment and will not win the league next year unless some major players is signed, same goes for Arsenal. The La Liga had been far more fun but the eventually winner was always gonna be either Barca or Real Madrid. The Scottish league always end in a two horsed race between Celtic and Rangers. The champions in France, Germany and Holland all had been weakened somewhat and I fancy an upset next year in one of the competitations.Quote:

The world cup is far too predicatatble when hosted by a European nation, we might see a surprise or two in the next world cup, but the eventually winner will definitely be either Brazil or Argentina, which is the pattern since 1966.Quote:

Ballack might be missing the Final.
Spain 2 - 1 Germany
Changed mind.
Espana 1 Allemania 2
well i managed to get all the QF's and SF's wrong... so i havnt much hope this time, but...
Germany 3 v 2 Spain
:2thumbsup:
Germany - Spain 3 -1 (wishful thinking :sweatdrop:)
Spain 4-2 Germany
Spain 2-0 Germany
I foresee:
Spain to come up 1-0. Tense second half, in which near the end either Germany will draw level in dramatic fashion, or in which Spain will take it to 2-0. I don't want this tournament to ever end, so I shall root for extra time:
Spain - Germany 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Spain to win in extra time, 3-1 after 120 minutes.
Thoughts on the result have been wavering all day.
Almost tempted to go for the Germans, naturally. Not really fond of either team, but now is just
the time for appreciation of football, and I'm really hoping for a cracking final. That might just
elevate this tournament above Euro 2000 for me yet.
Final Prediction
Germany 1-2 Spain (2045)
[I shall say this only once. Come on Spain! Mon lads, just get it done.]

Come on Germany! I need you to win.
No chance they're playing terribly, just like they have been in all their other games. It is still a wonder to me how they made it this far.
I gave you the champion of Euro 2008 Prediction game
*LittleGrizzly*
Congrats to Little Grizzly, and congrats to Spain. Never thought I'd see the day.
Quintus, I actually predicted 1-0 after 90 minutes, not AET. Obviously doesn't make enough difference to overhaul Grizzly.
Edit: Sorry, just checked the leaderboard, I got my points anyway. 2nd place, woohoo!
Hmmm not bad. I got 120 points for participating in less than half of the matches. :grin2:
Thanks for hosting
Yep, thanks. Thanks also for organising such a great game, makes me tempted to make a foray into the Gameroom sometime.
Balloon for Quintus: :balloon2::beam:
Join KF's castle II. He needs another player replacement
Well done Littlegrizzly!! :balloon:
And thanks for your excellent hosting Quintus. J. Cicero!! :balloon2:
Congrats to Spain - lovely, inventive football. A great champion.
Congrats to the Grizzly Bear - swallowing his competition whole! :balloon2:
And muchos gracias to Quintus for this thoroughly enjoyable game. Thanks for your effort and time! :2thumbsup:
7th place for a late starter, not bad :beam:
Thanks for hosting Quintus, this was partly what made me watch some of the games and I thank you for that.
Well done Grizz, as we used to say on Totomi, GG. :2thumbsup:
Congratulations to Grizz.
Thanks Quintus.
Yes, well done Grizz, nice game Quintus.
And congrats to Espana for winning the cup! :2thumbsup:
Bloody hell, Husar. You ought to be outside rioting now! Passion, mate, passion!
Thanks everyone, i would like to thank my friend luck who came through for me :beam: GG
Great game you setup Quintus it helped pick up the tournement for me as England weren't in there i thought i wouldn't enjoy it too much, but this game made it more enjoyable.
Spain were great most of the game, Germany had a small spell at the start were they looked decent but after Torres goal they never looked too threatening, spain deserved it and im glad spain got it, nice to see a underachieving side take it.
Oh well. If you one side has the inferior footballers, you have to make it up with heart, running and unbending will. That's why Germany is a much feared team, and that's why Germany did not win this tornament. :whip:
Nevertheless I'm neither sad nor angry, because
1. It's good to lose against Spain, cause afterall they are neither Italia nor Netherlands.
2. It's good to lose against Spain because they were invincible, which avoids us the blamage.
3. It's good to lose against Spain because afterall they normally just do not win.
4. It's good to lose against Spain cause in the tiny village of Mario Gomez's grandfathers they can now wholeheartedly rename a street after him, exactly as it was planned before the Euro.
Congratulations Spain, again a very deserved victory.
Congratulations to Spain! They had the one team in the tournament who deserved the cup most!
Germany was not in good shape that day...and Ithink we should be glad me made it into the final and did not loose smth. like 3:0.....
Anyways....looking 2 years ahead....watch ot for the Spanish....they areyoung & very gifted....maybe double time....Olé.
Olé España!!! Congrats as it was totally deserved!!! after all Spain was the only invencible team in the tournament...hasta siempre muchachos!!!:2thumbsup:
Thank you Quintus!!!:beam:
Congrats LittleGrizzly!!!:beam:
