ok i finished editing the unit.txt for metw.
its balanced and the support cost works.
now onto the balancing of the farm income production. after i balance that out i will need sombdoy to begin work on the building's them self as what they look like when trained or training..
all they have for this is 3 types of buildings and in a hury they just had all the same buidlings look alike.. so it hard to figure out in game which ones you need to train cause if oyu try to right click them to read them you either CTD or get an Error.
i will also edit the years it takes to make these buidlngs. the tech tree is finished i just need to balance out the buidlgins and there cost to build.
im still lookin for sombody who wants to do the graphics of the buildings portaits.

but in campaign is not finished and it was put together in hury
my part in finishing this mode is balancing the units cost support and unit size for defualt settings along with editing the era description-unit descriptions and editing the names of the officers and kings.
but when it comes to graphics im totaly clueless. if you want axel see if oyu can find sombdoy who can do that. i jsut sepnt the last 24 hours reading up on LOTR history on wikpedia. i do have all the books i jsut didn't wanna sit here reading the books one after another for the next 3 mths..
anyways.. i finished gathering info on the factions and the era.

building_prod will not touch tell we have better portraights and working campaing culture thingy. with descriptions and it stops erroring.. i'll do the decriptions but need sombdoy to make and add a few buildings i have in mind.
Description.txt as far as the % on this i'd say abou 70% i gotta rename the name area so when you right click the regions instead of land_reg_## you get the atual name of the region or when you conquer the region istead of wessex has ben conuer you actualy get the region name in the conquerer message.

i know that my friend Brocca has deced to help finish. im not sure which he is gonna help take care but im assuming by this long absent from the forums is that he is over looking everything.
i myself. have pretty much finished everything there is for me to do . beside building descriptions.
the biggest probelm is is figureigout how to get around the errors that keap happening.as my knowledge of graphic and file source moding is barly none.
but text altering or editing i can do.
i think for the time being im gonna give the mod the basic building of the viking campaign and do the tech tree that way so there is no error when building things.
until i get an experiance campain modder recruited i will do a temporary patch jost for the current status of the game.

maybe a brand new mod in the possible future copying the units of this mod but transfering them other a brand new mod.. maybe..but right now i don't know how they made what they had as far as campaign moding...

the problem with that mate is that they all went to their big project with rome total war.. all the members are workin on the smil and middle earth for rtw.
and they stoped talkin on there forums. but moved to the chasmber of secrets.
but axel i can guide you on how to get the three downloads so ou can play the custom battles.

first hit back a couple pages on this forum and look for icareu84 ..

you can play the camp map but i would suggest turning off.

go to the arrow at the top of the screen bring out the menu that says tool tips tidy up units.
un check all the box that would hav ea progress report of a building complete.
while playing the campaign don't right click any of the map building or tech tree.
you cna still left click any of the buildings to build..
as for mordor-isenguard-any others that isn't catholic culter. i don't recomend you training crusades.

they are what i hav ebeen trying ot work on.
i was attempting ot make a patch.rar that would include land descriptions-unit descriptions. and the building production would be that of viking campaign but the units of METW...and the camp map of the orignal.
but alas any attempt i ever did failed. the hard coaded text of the era start pros is so confushing to me. there was no way i could figur eoit out.
my knowledge of editing txt is vast but thats just altering or editing. not creating.
so basicly i faild.
the three exes in that link i gave oyu is the instlation up until they left. there are two files missing there links are dead. but that is as far as they got as to what is left.
just follow my instrucitons on how to play the campaign
don't right rlick the buildings of the castle on the map. you can right click the units and the regions just not he buidlgins.
also click the show tool tips-faciton anoucments any box governing a event parmachy displying a pic of a buidlign being built.
with that all being done you shouldn't have any trouble playign the camppaign.

from what i know why modders gave up MTW for RTW is that
seige battles and calvary and ambushes.
although when it comes to computer using ambushes its so damn rare.. there is no strategy on there part and very easy evne on the hardest diffaculty for RTW egine
but the probably the number reaosn why i could be wrong but im pretty sure is the graphics feature and population feature of civilization.
(i personly) hate this feature in the game cause it make sit hard to train new units after taking somehting. but anyways thats th reason why they droped there projects on MTW for RTW is mostly the graphics feature and the ability to get up close to the battles and see the unit detail.
which is 70% of the time the reason for mods anyway to capture the players feel for the game.. the idea for more young gamers is not enough they need imagery .

I had the game running nearly flawlessly, and there were only some bugs on certain battle maps and only with certain units sometimes, but usually the units performed fine. I made the units smaller, adjusted heights etc.
If I find the files and get the game running good, I can send the whole thing to you by airmail copied on a disk. Might be easier
First I have to find the files and get the game going. I stopped at the point where I was making icons for your Dwarven Mine, remember?? Also, you sent me all the Parchment files for the units you had made, the Orcks etc. Remember?? I was integrating those into the game, but also using vanilla and modified METW files.
I don't know if I have the LBM etc. photo tool saved or not, and I have forgotten how to convert graphics/icon files, have forgotten the sequence of tools to use etc. :dizzy2:

Also, I changed many descriptions of the troops types, and added more buildings and review panel icons etc. I did a large amount of work. I have to look for all this on disk, and as Isaid, I do not know if I saved my latest version and therefore will have to load the vanilla METW and Viking Invasion, get the patches for them, and then find the mod files, put them in and see if I can get it all working.

Hi, Another problem I ran into was the Names file, the file where certai Personalities and Heroes appear at certain times. I could not get this to work as it required yet more time and experimentation and I was doing everything else that needed to be done. I could get no help what-so-ever with the Names file concerning Personality and Hero name changes.Quote:

A main problem with the mod was that the castle build icons did not show up properly on the Campaign Map, and I finally came up with the correct Castle Build Sequence and had the correct icons that I modded from the original mod icons, and I als used the vanilla Fort and/or Motte and Bailey for early constuctions of the Castles.
The original mod also only had one generic Evil and good building for use with all the other buildings in the game, such as blacksmiths, stables, etc., and I changed this and added the vanilla ancilliary buildings and some modded building icons of my own for the Review Panel and the Parchments.
So, hopefully, I can find the files, especially the castle build sequence, and I can send those to Cegorach and Icare, either on disk by mail or over the inet. I can upload the larger files and perhaps Zip the whole thing into one file, but have not used Winzip or RAR in a long time and some simple help in directions and some cooperation would be nice to have at times, otherwise mods never get finished.
The mod was great to play, and the battles worked very smoothly. There was a problem with the nagul in that they ran aimlessly all over the screen/battlefield, and I had that corrected at about 80% efficiency, smae for the Uruk-hai and Dunlending Wildmen but those Saurmanic units were functioning properly at 100% efficiency.
It was fun!!!
I am glad to have found icare again, and that Cegorach et al are doing some work on this.

I did not copy the files to a disk, as my old 40GB Hard Drive crashed, so I do not have any files anymore. None, nada, nichts.
I can take my old hard drive to a computer shop and see if any info. is capable of being recovered. It may be possible.
Your mod, with my alterations worked good, and the battles were smooth, as was the campaign.
All your sprites are great, and with smaller units of Orcs and other troop types the battles were balanced. I lowered Orcs to about 40 to 60 trops per unit I think, except perhaps the Mordor rabble who may have had 20 or so more troops per unit. The Morgul Orcs worked great and were tough t beat, as were the Uruk-hai.
All the good troops had their stats lessened, but they were still more powerful than the Evil units, but the Evil side definitely could win battles.
So, I guess I have to start from scratch, and I guess i could get the castle Build sequence working for the campaign. i can try again maybe.

I have another 80GB hard drive I am going to look at and see if I have any METW-VI-ME files on it. I actually don't know/remember but it seems I copied the whole game somewhere, maybe not.
The main problem with the Campaign was the Castle Build Sequence.
In the tactical battles the units did not fuction well because their reaction radius/diameter and sizes were off, and that is why the Nazgul and Uruk-hai and Dunlendings wandered all over the screen.
I have to relearn the system in order to do anything with it, but I do remember quite a bit.
I had campaigns running on my old computer that were working fine, with naval units and weapons and armor upgrades for the troops, farms, and other tech. buildings. I just used vanilla farms and tech. buildings, and made some simple modifications to them and to the Mod Buildings that came with the mod. It was all wotking smoothly, except I could not get the Names etc. files working for the Leaders.
So, I may/will try and get the basic Campaign working again.
Now, I have to find that 80GB hard drive and connect it to see if any files are on it.
Too bad this Mod never worked as released and people abandonded it, but I had it working fine.

ZT's is a subjective know-it-all fairy-tale place BTW. I imagine the ?great, reincarnated 'kniaz'? still lies about people and facts, and misconstrues and makes a farce of actual history.
This Hyborian Age mod here also looks interesting. Never liked the RTW engine and screen graphics and I imagine METW2 is the same, but I will load them and try them again. METW 1 is better IMHO.
Now, where did I put that old 80GB hard drive, as it is not next to my old and defunct 40GB hard drive.

I had METW-VI working flawlessly with the correct ME Campaign Map (have to check the box on the mos installation and patch it to 7.1). I used a lot of vanilla buildings and the few buildings provided with the mod, and also altered the Camp. Map buildings. I was adding portraits, infopics. etc.
The game will not run without my files, so check with Jack.
I have not looked on my old 80BG HD yet for the files and mod and hope they are there.
I cannot break into my crashed 40GB HD that has the files and mod, although I will try again.
The mod was running fine, with Naval units etc., and I had several test campaigns going without any glitches except for missing infopics, portraits, and names. I could never get the Names file to work and I needed help with it, and when I asked for help at the old forum I was rudely snubbed in that I recieved no offer of assistance.
So, the heck with it. It was insulting to try and get help and deal with some of the moronic idiots that didn't do anything to help and only harrassed me.
What a joke. If I find the files and mod on one of my HD's and get it going again, I would be interested in finishing the mod, but I needed help with the names and the infopics. I used moddified vanilla infopics for some units and they were OK, along with the infopics you sent me. I have downladed Ultrapaint to work with the LBM's but have to relearn how to do all this and that would only take a short while (time).
So, please ask Jack for my files, and I think I may also do so, plus I have to check my 80GB HD and try and get in the 40GB HD again.
I find it rather strange the METW RTW-BI has not released any updates to that RTW mod, but I guess that is because it has been ported to BI. I look forward to this mod when it is finished, as I finally installed RTW again and also BI. I like BI but cannot stand the historical inaccuracy of vanilla RTW.
I presently have installed on my computer the Extended Greek Mod (XGM), End of days (great mod!!), and will also install RTR 7.0 Platinum for BI, and for the old MTW-VI have to install the GREAT XL Mod, SPQR, etc.
If I had gotten some help and cooperation then METW-VI would be finished or at least playable, since as it was released the mod was completely unplayble in campaign mode but I made the campaign run flawlessly except for the Names and more Portriats and Infopics that were needed. I also wrote some excellent Unit and Building descriptions and Tooltips, much better than the garbage that was in the mod release, and it was garbage to a large degree, very 'flowery', confusing, and childish language and writing style used for the Descriptions and Tooltips. My writing style is vasyly superior and to the point and without the silly Warhammer style of writing. IOTW, I wrote the descriptions with directness, accuracy, brevity as much as could be done, and with a good historical knowledge of Ancient and Medieval warfare.
Example: Who in their right mind would write a description of a horde of Morgul Orc Spearmen that contains a phrase such as 'spearpoints POKING out above them' or some such nonsense. Usage of the word 'Poking' in this respect is more applicable to use in a children's book!!! Warhammmer Bull Sh-t style of writing. 'Thrusting' or 'bristling' are much more appropriate words to use in place of 'Poking'.
