Re: Out of Character thread
Now you mention it, it looks Vienna had no governor at the mid-term as Braden was off at war, so it has no build queue for the next 10 turns. GH is free to build what he likes there.
But I'm not sure why you think a castle is required in the east - we have at least 3 castles in the Empire (Staufen, Innsbruck and Hamburg). They should be able to provide for our needs. Castles are very expensive to upgrade, but of limited value without upgrading (at most, we can get knights and archers right now). But this kind of issue is best discussed in character in the Diet (or via PMs with GH and Braden).

I understand that.
But there you have it sir.
Staufen = House Swabia
Innsbruck = House Bavaria
Hamburg = Franconia ??
We are far to the east and with the other 3 regions have centres of production I am worried about our ability to deal with the coming conflicts with anything but low grade troops.
And yes this is a Diet conversation. But I just wanted to check my concerns regarding the current build queue.
I have to ask GH.
Thanks for the info Econ.

Re: Out of Character thread
I find goals like these are useful for creating a unique character. Adopting an "Austria must get a castle" role and consistently advocating for it and maneuvering for it will make you memorable in others peoples' minds. You may or may not achieve your goal, but if you are consistent with the 'passion' it allows for interesting roleplaying.

Re: Out of Character thread
Completely agree TC. The empire is split into houses and is not just one big nation using this format.
Keeping the overall objectives balanced but realising that internally there is competition occuring is the whole point.
This is where we will ALL succeed or fail.
I think our house needs a castle. We'll see how it plays out.
We are competing with limited shared resources to achieve our aims and our aims may not be the same.
It should be fun.

Re: Out of Character thread
Sorry for Otto rushing out AG, but I couldn't resist a dramatic exit.:laugh4: One of his traits is Energetic so I try to have him rush about and use lots of exclamation points.

Re: Out of Character thread
No problem dlain. i thought something was up.
GH jumped in nicely and confirmed the assault on Bern, which I had totally forgotten about.
I got your note and sent a reply. Well done. Good writing.
Any trait role playing is a must in my book so I compeletly understand.
I don't have a PC right now so I have no idea when your up against in Bern. What the situation and what's the troop composition for both sides?
I can't wait for the freedom of having an avatar. I guess I'm down the pecking order. But hell. It is starting to get addictive.

Well, the garrison size is a bit larger than I would have liked. We've loaded up dlain with the biggest force in the game so far, including an extra general.
We're also going to go after them with tons of equipment. I provided 2 towers and a ram, and he's asked for 3 ladders too (that extra tower probably won't happen though, sorry).
Also, Braden's got 24 hours to go. Even with the autoresolve on, it shouldn't be much of a problem. I defeated the sallying force pretty easily, and if I can do it... :juggle2:

Re: Out of Character thread
GH!! The Kaiser!!
So you basically give him the forces in your "Master" saved game. You then get all the way up to the moment before the battle...save the game...post it up...dlain then pulls it down...presses attack and then fights it...correct?
Shit man...if dlain loses, that will knock the hell out of the whole plan!! No pressure :laugh4:
So that is another confirmation question. There is a time limit on resolving the battle and Braden needs to do it by Sunday? He should win on the defense with the bowmen and Boyars.
Attacking would have been another thing altogether though.

He won't. At least, not if he knows what's good for him.
-edit- Just saw this:

Re: Out of Character thread
I'm going from memory, but having looked at the siege in the last save game:
Bern:
4 units Armoured Spearmen, 2 units Crossbowmen (Peasant?), and 2 units of Mailed Knights.
HRE:
Swabia (from Metz):
2 units of Spear Militia (slightly used :laugh4:) led by Sigismund der Stolze
Bavaria:
2 units of Sergeant Spearmen (Innsbruck's finest), 3 units of Peasant Archers, 1 unit of Mailed Knights, 1 unit of Mounted Sergeants. All led by Otto von Kassel.
We have the edge in numbers, but their infantry is of higher quality. It should be interesting.
Edit: I'm not going to lose, I don't want to be put on trial in a seperate thread! :smash:
-
Re: Out of Character thread
LOL at both of you!! Could you imagine the situation in the diet when the first person has the balls to admit he lost!!?? Holy Hell :laugh4:
I just realised that people can cheat a bit though.
If you lose you can just restart and take a second shot at it...right?
dlain you better watch out for those mailed knights!!
Is it a castle or a city. You both know I love that topic right now!!

Re: Out of Character thread
Bern is a castle, which are generally harder to take than towns (less gates, better defenses). It is one of the better garrisoned rebel settlements.
As for reloading, I'm assuming that would be in very bad form barring a computer crash or glitch.
As for losing a battle, it will happen eventually. I just hope everyone stays in character and doesn't pile on. The PBM would be boring if we had a string of unchallenged success.
Edit: Knights inside fortifications tend to be less effective, there's little room to flank or manuever, particularly with large unit size being used, and a unit of spearman holding an alley can ruin their day.
2nd Edit: TinCow, please don't do to that priest what I think you're going to do to that priest. *shudders*

Re: Out of Character thread
Another Castle in the west!! Bloody hell :laugh4:
and dlain you have just said the best thing so far. We should all really roll with the punches. If someone gets nailed then we just have to deal with it. that's the whole point of this. I think we would all generate a great deal more satisfaction if we overcome adversity to get somewhere in the game.
You've got your hands full that's for sure dlain. 8 of his units to 9 of ours. We have missile superiority and infantry...but he has good cav and he is defending. If yor fight him on the walls I guess you will be toast.
When are you going to fight this thing?
-
Re: Out of Character thread
11 HRE units actually, avatars have tough heavy calvary escorts.
The plan is not to slug it out on the walls, on Very Hard setting that's a death sentence. I've got a strategy in mind, but I'm not going to tell until it works, I hope.
As for when I fight, it's when Braden (as Leopold) fights his battle and sends back the save, GH might play a turn, and then I get my shot. Could be today, could be tomorrow, could be Sunday. Juggling different time zones and work schedules can cause delays.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
you're right dlain I forgot the general units.
We're playing on VH Battles...shhhhieeet.
Well good luck and good night.
It's midnight here in Switzerland so I'm another time zone into the mix.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
It isn't an easy taak dlain has; I donn't envy him at all. Assaulting Bern is going to be a very tough nut to crack. But then, with valiant Swabians and Bavarians he should be victorious.

Lol. What a shame this isn't the original MTW.
*A spy taps Otto von Kassel on the shoulder; "I accuse you of treason against the Reich!"

Re: Out of Character thread
Uhm, just a little note to Aussie. Not that I'm offended by it, because I'm not, but be careful of the language usage. ~;) I'm not a mod, but I'd rather a friendly reminder from a user than a warning from a mod. :skull: :whip:

Unless you're Dietrich, in whice case your secretive little background means you just pwn everything in your way in alleyway cavalry charges. :2thumbsup:

Understood. I'm sure econ would also agree.
And Lucjan,
I do believe Ignoramus is making some remarks about you in the Diet!! :)
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Yeh, that's ok. I think I just raised holy heck with my response.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Hehe... I posted simultaneously with Lucjan.
Seems like our Kaiser is facing resistance. :beam:
-
Re: Out of Character thread
Our dear kaiser is pulling a 'Servius', disobeying edicts and taking his own course despite the majority rule. It's no wonder he's facing resistance.
This will be interesting, but no matter the outcome I don't think it's going to bode well for the Kaiser.
-
Re: Out of Character thread
I'm curious, I know that a Chancellor can be impeached, but there are no such rules concerning the Kaiser. If we felt a Kaiser was abusing his power what would be our alternatives? Obviously it's a risky proposition since he controls the allocation of land and who gets to be Duke of Bavaria even after the Chancellor's office is passed on.
Personally, I'm a no vote on civil war :laugh4:.
Edit: Of course things heat up in the Diet after I make my dramatic exit. Urge to bloviate is rising, I might have to dust off Gunther.
2nd Edit: On second thought urge to bloviate is falling, don't want to get in the middle of that! :sweatdrop:

Re: Out of Character thread
Weeell, it all seems to be "hitting the fan" nicely at the moment.
I can't wait for the AI to "stick it to us" and see what happens next.

Heh, this is nothing. The game gets exponentially more dramatic as things progress. Just wait around for a bit.
Braden has 5 hours. I'm getting worried, but the odds are in our favor if it comes down to autoresolve.

Hmmmmmm, I'm going to a party tonight, but if I get the save by Sunday noonish (Eastern Time) I could sneak in my battle before the Super Bowl and work. The battle report will take longer, I'm actually more nervous about that than the castle.

That would be possible. I'll try to get in the amount of turns needed before then. I suspect that my reign has taken longer than it should have already, so we need to start rushing.
And don't worry about the battle report. We all get better at them as we fight more. I'm actually embarrassed by my first attempt. :embarassed:

Re: Out of Character thread
I hope Braden manages to get back to us on time. Besides, the diet is just now starting to heat up, and I think this was the immersion he was aching for. He always was really good in the deliberations.

Re: Out of Character thread
There has been a very long delay at Prague, and if we lose on the autoresolve, it'll all surely be one large anti-Polish conspiracy! :laugh4:
-
Re: Out of Character thread
For how long he's been besieging Prague I'd say that an actual loss with the autoresolve would be impossible. If anything, I'll be shocked if he loses more than 75 men in the autoresolve.

Re: Out of Character thread
Sorry about the double post, but I have to say that I'm enjoying Aussie's character already.
He fits in perfectly with the rest of the House of Austria. :laugh4:
