What are you using the sensor for?
To turn lights on when it gets dark. It's like an automatic power generator. The whole town will be wired when it's done.
I finished most of the lights and fountains last night. The area is pretty safe but there are still a lot of spawns. Slabs are no longer a countermeasure.
Sweet. Open tab automatically updated to the new map.
So the server crashed while I was on last night. I was in the middle of creating a zombie XP farm where the zombies will fall 23 blocks. I built some 23 block pillars and a room at the top. Now I log in and the room is mostly still there, but the pillars are gone. Minecraft's transaction integrity leaves something to be desired.
That's odd, it should be saving constantly. I'll look into it, maybe it has something to do with the rebooting system. At least the server restarted itself that time, that's an improvement.
Would anybody have any spare saddles they'd be willing to sell? I tried to buy one off the testificates at one of Vlad's villages, but none of them had any. They're not really essential for anything, but I'm one of those slightly OCD people that hates to advance on to something new unless all the little details are sorted :beam:.
Incidentally TC, the Tree Assist plugin appears to be not working for me - chopping down the bottom block of a tree trunk no longer automatically cuts down the rest. The foliage still disappears faster than vanilla afterwards, though.
TreeAssist has been having increasingly serious issues since 1.3.2 came out, and the addition of the server reboot module seems to have made it worse. The error log gets spammed constantly with tree assist problems. I reported the issue to the mod author a few days ago, but there hasnt been a response yet. I will disable the module completely until it's fixed.
That is much appreciated. I believe they should be in a chest close to the entrance/exit. I may have some in my desert outpost, across from the bridge. Take a spare if you like as I'll likely not use them.
If anyone has any mossy cobblestone to spare or trade, please let me know what you'd like in return. I still have several stacks of obsidian I may not use for a while. There's no tax for using the trading village but gifts are appreciated. ~;)
The server seems more stable now that TreeAssist has been disabled.
I'm really liking this guy's stronghold renovation: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...ictures-added/
Almost ready to ask for villager spawn eggs for the desert. I may build a slum and force relocate some of them.
:laugh4:
I actually just recently became productive. I didn't have a plan for the new village until a couple weeks ago and went from there. While I still have some security concerns and more decoration is needed, it's almost ready for population. I plan on having one trapped in each bazaar stall and hope there are enough doors for a golem spawn.
Map update!
Have the updated affected slime spawning? I've checked my small farm and TC's and I got nuthin.
I've just finished the 'shell' of my slums (no decoration yet), and I have to say that the place is a fire trap. I'm petrified of even putting flint and tinder on my quickbar when I'm entering it. Needless to say, no fireplaces in those buildings.
Still, progress is steady, and I'm hoping to have the place entirely finished by the end of next month. Key word here is 'hoping.' :beam:
EDIT:
By the way spanky, would you mind collecting the cobwebs lying around if you do so (and it's a spider spawner)? I wouldn't mind purchasing them off you for use in some of my more 'run-down' buildings.
Never mind, I just saw on the wiki that you can't collect them. Oh well.
Look at my old village to get ideas for fireplaces. Those were designed in an earlier version but the one in my desert village is new. Take a look at it. The wiki has a good guide but it just takes practice. Remember: Water stops fire..
You can collect webs but you can't place them. Maybe in creative mode?
I've managed to make fireplaces in a couple of wooden buildings so far without burning them down (well, more than once), but my reason for not doing so in the slums is threefold: firstly, there's not really enough room in most buildings for a fireplace; secondly, they're the plebs and so it's more thematically appropriate for them to freeze; and thirdly, I really, really don't want to run the risk of a fire there (I just don't trust myself enough to not make a mistake :D).
I tried adding a hearth to the huts in my new village but fire spreads upward regardless of how well it's contained. The huts were too small to have the roofs beyond the upper limit. Since there were air blocks between the contained fire and the roof, the roof would always catch on fire.
I started using soul sand as mud but can't use netherrack as I intended. The roofs would need to be inflammable.
Oh great Cow of Tin. Please briefly grant me your powers of creation that I may create a society to glorify you...well, not really. More like a bunch of testificates, but I'll buy you and your wife a drink some time.
@TinCow
By the way TinCow, I may have accidentally broken your incinerator. It somehow got stuck so that the glass was up when the lava wasn't flowing, and vice versa. Somewhat hazardous.
Hey TC, one of the villagers fell into the sewer. Could you spawn a few more randomly when you get the chance?
I think I've made my disreputable tavern a bit too...reputable. It's surprisingly difficult to deliberately make a building appear run-down, and not just sloppy on my part.
You could add dispensers that toss empty glass bottles on the floor when someone walks in. Another dispenser with a button labeled "XXX" that tosses out a splash potion of slowness could be fun too.
I love how you can use blocks of snow to contain lava.
The server has been updated to CraftBukkit 1.3.2-R1.0. This is mainly a performance update, which apparently fixes some issues with crashing and chunk loading.
Sweet.
I really wish large biomes were available in a much earlier version. My little towns are taking up so much space!
So, uh...TinCow, I swear this was accidental:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I'm really not quite sure what happened . One minute I pressed the sand generator button, and the next I was rapidly suffocating under an ever-advancing wall of sand. Anyway, I cleaned it all up apart from the displaced cobblestone (as I didn't have a pick on me). I hope it hasn't gummed up the works or something.
That's a hazard of the system. If for some reason something interrupts the timing of the mechanism, that happens. It's happened to me a half dozen times, so no big deal. It happened far more often when I had the 'clean out' mechanism as part of it, which is why I removed that button. I suspect it was a lag blip or something.
I'm really demotivated to complete my castle. I know I will complete it, at some stage, but it's just so depressing to look at. I will get back into Minecraft when my Siren reaches Level 50 in Borderlands 2.
Ah drat. I finally manage to enchant myself another Unbreaking III pickaxe, and so what do I do? I take it with me into the Nether, where I promptly drown in lava. Along with all my other diamond tools. Fortunately I've just finished rebuilding my diamond stockpiles after a couple of other lava-related deaths (it's the shift key's fault, not mine!).
I've found myself spending most of my time above ground lately but still managed to swim in lava once lately. Thankfully my favorite diamond pick wasn't in my inventory.
I'm a bit demotivated lately too, not by emptiness, but by how moderate projects take up so much of the biome. You don't realize how small they are until you start building.
There are so many good games out at the moment that I think many of us are taking a break from Minecraft. I'm stuck into Borderlands 2 as well, even worse than you are. I've got a lvl 50 Gunzerker and a lvl 26 Sniper. I also really want to play FTL and XCom. Too many games, not enough time.
Regardless, the 1.4 patch for MC looks fun as well. A lot of new stuff coming for it, which will be great.
Found another village I want to renovate. X: 5209 Z 1096 if no one else claims it. Definitely will require Nether travel. Maybe even a rail system.

I don't see any light sources so all the villagers may be dead or need protection.
Thank you. I'll have to find my way out there. It has tremendous potential.
FINISHED! I have finally, absolutely, finished my 8-month project of a city (barring minor revisions :beam:). I am ecstatic.
@TinCow, would you be able to put the final touch on by spawning a couple of villagers please?
Yep, I'll put some in there next time I'm on.
Well, I've gotten over Borderlands 2 to some extent. I'll still play it more than occasionally, but I always run back to Minecraft. So, I'm back.
Leveling my area is proving to be quite time consuming. TNT is pretty effective at removing stone and dirt if I use it on mass. Trouble is, there is never enough gunpowder. I stood outside TC's mob spawner for an hour thing and only got 19 gunpowder.
Or I could just make the castles dimensions smaller... NO! I intend to make it as magnificent as possible. I have to work hard to achieve that. If anyone has any pointers to leveling, I would be grateful (I don't think there is an easy way, though).
Whoa. The new update is adding lots of stuff.
Yep, looks great! However, please remember that it usually take Bukkit a few days to catch up after an update. As of this moment, there is no Bukkit release for 1.4, so I cannot update the server yet. Please do not update your client! If you do, you won't be able to connect to the Org server. I'll update the server immediately when the Bukkit team gets their version out.
So, I just had an idea for this server. There is a few problems with it, mainly time differences. But here goes...
A GLADIATOR FIGHT!
Since this server is whitelisted, it's safe to say that people wont kill each other for personal gain, so PvP can be turned on for this. I was thinking of a series of gladiator fights in the arena, with a prize for the winner.
Each gladiator must pay a certain number of diamonds to compete. The winner takes the majority of the pot, the runners up take lesser portions of it.
This tournament needs to be organised from the very start (assuming my idea becomes reality), with a tourney tree, an official adjudicator etc.
So, what do you guys think?
When we were still in the planning stages for the arena, I was interested in making it a venue for Mob Arena. I think we could still arrange it to work in there, if people were interested in that kind of challenge.
We need a space needle. I see so many dirt stacks up to the sky, built to provide views of the surrounding area. It's clearly a desirable thing, so we should make a nice-looking structure to do it in.
I was thinking of a Seattle style structure. Flared bottom, narrow middle, with a glass-enclosed saucer on top to walk around and see in all directions. The pillar itself would need to have some kind of efficient ascend/descend mechanism just to avoid the climb being annoying. I tried building a really cool elevator at my place a few months ago, but it turned out to not work due to MP server lag. I've seen designs for up-only elevator systems that are supposed to work on servers. They're ugly and uni-directional, but they're pretty compact, not resource intense, and they work so that's probably what would be best to use. To get down, the fastest method would just be a drop-chute with a pool at the bottom.
FYI, if you haven't read the news lately there's a rather large storm headed towards my area. I would actively be surprised if I didn't lose power for at least a short period at some point in the Sunday to Tuesday time frame. Thus, if the server is offline at some point in that time period, that is almost certainly the reason. Be assured that I will get it back online ASAP if there are issues.
Ok, I think I'll be back playing regularly again for a while. I've gotten my fill of XCom and Borderlands, at least for now. The first thing I noticed on logging in is just how annoying the Saving messages are. I don't know how you've all lived with them for so long without complaining. You are certainly more tolerant than I. In any case, I've disabled the messages. Be assured, the forced autosaves are still occurring every 5 minutes, but you won't receive messages about them anymore.
OK. I seem to have a little problem. Underneath my burdock piling, I'm making a farm. Trouble is, I have not seen a cow or a pig on my island. Even worse, there is hardly any space to manoeuvre the mobs.
Any suggestions?
Portals once we upgrade.
Or a rail line. Or some annoying swimming. Getting the first pairs of pigs, cows, and sheep is always annoying. They don't typically spawn underground either. :2thumbsup:
The first Bukkit dev build for 1.4.2 has been released, but it's apparently very buggy and the team does not recommend it for anything other than test servers. I'm going to hold of an updating for a little while longer to give them some more time to do basic bug fixes.
I've completed a projected I put off for a while: a supercharged XP farm. With the Silk Spawners mod, I harvested 3 spawners from around my base and built a triple farm with them. It works like the usual kind, but I've got three separate spawning rooms arranged around a central safe room, all dumping into a single drop chute. Each room has a toggleable lighting system as well, so that spawns can be stopped and started at will. Since there are three separate spawners which are all activated from the single safe room, it produces mobs three times as fast as normal. I just did a test run from 0xp and a cold start (lights on, no mobs in the system), and here were the results:
5 minutes = Level 14
10 minutes = Level 24
15 minutes = Level 28
19 minutes - Level 30
If anyone want to level up fast, you're welcome to use the system. It's in my Day (Gold) Annex. Just hit the button in front of each room to turn the lights off inside and start it up. I am currently using one skeleton spawner and two zombie spawners. I'd eventually like to turn it into three skeleton spawners, but I haven't found any additional skeleton spawners. If anyone finds one that you don't mind me harvesting, please let me know.
I found multiple spider spawners but will let you know. No power right now but I can see lights across the street. Very frustrating.
I finally got around to exploring the Stronghold on the island near the spawn area. I've built a rail station there and will be laying a track to wherever the nearest station is, probably the town hall.
Finished a Nether rail system to my new place on the rim. It barely works and you may hit a zombie pigman throwing you in the opposite direction but it's better than walking all the way. I just need a plan for the place now...
I saw a good thread on the Curse forums where a guy renovated a stronghold. It looked nice and I wonder if one can be turned into a village complete with market.
When I saw your elevator, I noticed how massive the circuitry is. I don't know if this will help, but it is a hell of a lot more compact.
