That's the correct spelling no question about it, I speak the language. Singular is Uskok, plural is Uskoci. K into C in front of an I is a common change in Croatian spelling.Quote:
Still the name makes me wonder - is it the proper spelling in Croatian ( or Slavonian) - if yes what is it in singular Uskoc ??
About Brzezinski - one thing he wrote and seems to support and I can't agree with is the origin of the name hussar from Serbian gussar. As a speaker of Croatian (Serbian is almost identical, a foreigner couldn't tell it apart) it doesn't seem likely to me and I favour the other theory, Hungarian word husz meaning twenty and ar meaning man. Vuksic supported the same theory in one of his earlier books, and I am very curious what the two of them will agree upon in their collaboration for this book.
Why 4 books?
Off Topic:Here`s a small (2 MB) mpeg showing whole army:laugh4: of Pancerni and Hussars attacking Swedes-I think.
Who knows, mabe it looked like this:)

Ok... hope noone else have said anything about this.... tried to read all the posts. I bought a book about swedish battles because of this mod... I realized i didnt know that much about them and found a good and quite objective book that was cheap.
1. The swedish army during the time of Gustav Wasa was peasants. They offered their services to their king and was not supposed to be used fa away. Because of this ''Swedes'' fought ''Swedes'' when fighting Denmark because the Danish king from one point of view was the legitimate king.
2. The army under Gusta II Adolf was the same but now they could be used outside the country. sweden had been organized so that a village (not sure about the size) should give the army a certain number of soldiers. Because of swedens small population most of swedens forces was mercanaries.
3. Under Karl XI the swedish Indelningsverk where a couple of farms should support and equip a soldier was used. These soldiers trained a couple of times a year and was quite professional. They were a part of the society and had their own little farm (where I grew up a street was called grenadjärsvägen... grenadier road... because of this). They were the Karolin army. But once again swedens population was the limit.
anything wrong? tell me. Any questions I should check for in the book? ask me.
the polish husars with wings kicked the swedish cavalrys butt (and the rest of the army too)... in Kirkenäs i think, in the beginning. the swedes used a system where they rode against the enemy, fired their pistol and turned around ande the next did the same thing... the polish husars used the knight tactic and slaughtered them. later the swedish cavalry rode against the enemy together, on their small horses, waited until the last moment and fired their pistol, drew their sword and attacked... very effecient.
Cheers my fellow countryman!
I find your information correct. But you know Gustav Vasa used german merceneries to.
This mod add reforms, like Indelningsverket, so that your army evolves like it did on real. Very cool!
Cegorach, any news about an estimated releasedate? (Sorry for asking, is just so damn curious). :2thumbsup:
Let it be late but good, friend from the North :2thumbsup:

Be careful when it comes to the descriptions of Polish-Swedish wars I have discovered that they can be very biased, swedish are more far from the truth, unfortunatelly for example the battle at Walhoff between 1500 suprised Poles and some 4000+ Swedes is described in a completely wrong way.
I can't resist to correct one thing, forgive me all of you.
Winged Hussars didn't have much in common with knights except 3 things
- that they were cavalry,
- that they were wearing armour,
- and that they were using long lances, but those of the Husaria were hollow, which is often forgotten...
Their charge was one of more difficult ones to learn and to stop.
First they usually dyployed in 3 lines with infantry units and artillery between their formations
like here
https://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b...ch/pologne.jpg
Next they were charging in waves
One line of units at a time - so they started charge in loose formation accelerating minute after minute. Next around 100 m from target they tightened formation accelerating even more starting with those soldiers from behind so their formation kept perfect shape even when it was necessary to replace losses from enemy firepower.
Next they hit the target which could be enemy pikemen ( they were the only cavalry able to break enemy pikemen formations charging in front of their lines) - their first two ranks were using 5.5 meter lances which unhorsed enemy raiders, hit enemy pikemen throwing them like broken dolls creating massive holes in enemy formation ( like elephants in the RTW) ready to explore by rank 3, 4th and so on which were using pistols to create more havoc.
If the charge was not enough they were able to retreat quickly to replace broken lances, reorganise and give more time to their infantry to cause more mess.
The enemy had a huge problem now, because if they survived the first charge at the very moment when the first one stopped and the first wave of Hussars retreated another line ( from those 3) started charging, so enemy could face several ones, one per few minutes...
If the first charge was successfull ( they were targeted usually into enemy flanks to envelope the entire battleline and kill them all) lighter cavalry called Kozacy was used to support Hussars ( like armoured carriers with infantry support tanks) to enlarge the holes and rout the enemy.
Generally you had to be very brave, experienced, fortified or lucky to survive and to win.
The Swedes became a kind of experts at this, but after 20+ years of carnages ( lost all battles before Walhoff in 1626 if I am correct about the date) against forces several times smaller than their.
Contrary to the popular beliefs their cavalry stopped caracoling quite early - because it was seen as horrible tactic against Polish rapid moving armies, but you had to do much more.
Gustav Adolf learnt to use massive short range volleys together with numerous artillery, field fortifications, use of terrain unsuitable to cavalry and his own reformed cavalry to counterassault, but still it was hard to stop Husaria like at Warsaw when around 1000 Hussars broke through their line - unfortunatelly it was terribly coordinated without any support which was supposed to attack at the same time, well... John Casimir was a bad offensive commander.
So please be careful, because I have learnt to my cost that many Swedes ( including historians and writers) see Husaria as a kind of 'outdated knights' which is not true at all. :wall:
You can give anyone the link to this post. I will be delighted to explain them any details thay need.

Cegorach, don`t write them abaut our tactics:charge:,because they gonna use it against us in the game ~:joker:
And you`re right. In many western countries Polish history is described with many mistakes(attacking tanks with cavalry for example)Huh,who`s a bigger knothead-We or those who write :book: such a stupidity?!.
@YanTraken
I personally 'converted' several unbelivers to our couse:2thumbsup: Soon we will rule the world ! :idea2:
@Radier
Release... I lost almost 2 weeks because of the return to Poland and things connected to this...
I hope I will be ready in the last week of March. :2thumbsup:
A nice spring gift to us all Ceg. :2thumbsup:
And Yantraken guess now which country that will be my primary target, hehe (well at least if there are few husaria in it). ~;)
p.s I like the circassian name on it's infantry. I'm sure some circassian general confused two words when he shouted an order and what came from his mouth was: "Lhxwqwel Zeva...!!? :inquisitive: ". Poor generals...
URAAAAAA..za pierestrojku!!!
https://img515.imageshack.us/img515/...ample214qm.jpg
and as always, this is only a project etc.
@Radier
I think that the worst enemy for the Winged Hussars was/is .....................the bird flu. They had so many feathers that this damned virus could took them for some kind of gigantic eagle or hawk. The same concern Turkish Dehli,Russian eehmm Tzar Bodyguard and even rich guys who worn feathers on their hats:stupido:
Oh awesome graphics Yantraken! So now we have for western Europe, muslims and Russia, right? :2thumbsup:
I think so,but first Cegorach has to authorize them:)If He do so the only animations left will be Piechota Wybraniecka and Swedish skiers. They are infantry so they require a HUGE amount of normal move and acting animations....ughhhh....:sweatdrop:
didnt mean to describe them as knights. the book is clear on that. but they were more knight like... almost all other husars got less armour and used pistols as sec weapon and sword as primary whilst the polish husars got heavier and used brute force to break enemy forces... only a professional army can stand such an shock attack... but the book describes most things very shortly. the book also states that many battles in which sweden (and often the enemy too) declared themself winners was more or less draws. poland was for a long time swedens prime enemy after denmark. even during the war against russia Karl XII prioritized fighting the poles under some sachsan ruler before advancing into russia and catastrophy. karl XII broke swedens back fighting russia.
gustav II adolf was a great commander. dont think any other swedish king is close to him. after the war sweden relied more upon their own population... to small to be able to cover all long borders against enemys who allied against sweden. if sweden hadnt seized the oppurtunity to take part in the german war sweden would have no chance seizing the areas they did.
i will probably never play this game unless its released for a 3d engine... unfortunatly. i wont buy medieval total war 1.... too old game engine... but i have wondered why there isnt a game about th 30 year german war.
an interesting and scary thing is that from 15 years old you could be used in the army in the peasent army. the younger the easier to teach how to fight was the general idea. its a scary thought to see school boys fighting cannong, husars (just think how you as a 15 year old school boy would react to polish husars with thick armour, long lances and wings charging you), cannons, getting plague and dying in a country far away from home. no wonder the quality of swedens army was low before Gustav II Adolf.
In fact Polish Hussars were using pistols when the lances were broken or when they were not required e.g. against swift Tatars...
The 3d version will be prepared from MTW 2, so it will take a while to make it - at least one year after the release of MTW 2...

Another thing to download.
It is the new set of event pictures, it is almost ready, but I need your help to check which ones are not changed yet - it is quite complicated to put them in the right place if you don't have much time to play the mod...
So please try them
http://rapidshare.de/files/14981658/...TURES.exe.html
If you have PMTW 1.0 of course...
Regards Cegorach :book:
Great work as usual guys. I see you've created new map pieces - if you can, please let me know how you did it so the bar wasn't always full despite the fact that there is only one unit in the stack, I'm having the same problem at the minute.
All done Cegorach.Just so many girls writes to me love letters uffff :sweatdrop:
Mabe You could add some icon "building in progress"that appears on province territory near town for expel. Some kind of hammer mabe just to show for player that something there is building.:inquisitive:

hi all cane somme one give me the links to download this nice mod for MTW and wot to put on first or should i waith first till the nice Update of this mod is done????
Greetings!Here is the link for P&M v1.0
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=49031
it`s not far away(in download section on this forum:)
You can also get the new husaria animations and music themes for v.1.5 there.
A full new P&M v 1.5 is about to be released in the end of March:)
so its better to waith till the end of march or cane you just put the new one over the 1.0 version??? or must i delete the 1.0 version and then put the 1.5 version on again?
@Axel
Do as You want Axel, but I think that the most sensible way would be to wait that few days for 1.5:)
@Cegorach
-I postulate to add such a campaign called "No time limit".It`s pity when You cant` build all the things You are able to,just because the time has ended:)
-I know it`s difficult but:clicking twice on province could open building or recruitment bar.
-is their`s some way to rebuild units that had taken losses in previous battles?
ok will do mate may i ask one question if the 1.5 is out do i only have to download the 1.5 version and install this on my MTW to have to complete version mate????? i love the screenshots
Unless I'm mistaken you forgot probably one of the main reasons why they are popularly refered to as knights.Quote:

ok thx mate ill waith till Cegorach tels me how to do it :2thumbsup:
I think Sweden should be seriously hampered by low population. The only way sweden should be able to have any success is to use the tactic Gustav II Adolf used: use mercanaries and fincance the war with plunder and sacking towns and payment from other governments (france paid sweden in many wars). I guess Denmark should have the same problem.

Besides Husaria consisted from Nobles, but not always and in fact quite many people in Poland were nobles - around 1 500 000 at that time - now around 30 000 000, but noone cares anymore :laugh4:
That is why I didn't mention it at all.

@Axel
For now play PMTW 1.0 + add the new upgrades - in this thread and download thread.
PMTW 1.5 will be a complete new install much bigger than 1.0 and it won't be possible to add this as a patch so you will need a fresh install of MTW VI
Generally it will give you:
4 campaigns including English Civil Wars on the map from Viking campaign,
- about 30 factions per campaign ( 4 in ECW),
- around 600 new units,
- new techtrees - about 80 new buildings,
- lots of new office titles - up to 20 per faction ( 20 for France),
- new historical battles and one historical campaign,
- lots of new animations including war wagons and ski troops,
- new music - not much for now,
- about 200 historical heroes,
- new portrait sets, icons etc,
- 3 new controll panels to choose from,
- a new map ( for now from MTW XL - thanks to VikingHorde),
- recreated crusades and jihads,
- many unique possibilities including vassal states, unions, religious tolerance/intolerance, military reforms, units using two missile weapons to choose from and much more,
LATER in the patch
- more unit animations,
- more than 10 new historical battles ( I am gathering data for some),
- most likely a completely new map,
- hopefully new battlefield maps including new castles,
- some short movies added before historical battles,
- much more new music,
Regards Cegorach :2thumbsup:
hi mate thx for reply
verry nice cant waith to play this nice mod mate
Question to Cegorach or scandinavians ~:)
How the ski troops were skiing with only one stick? Were they changing the side of belching from right to the left and so on,or did they use only one side for this action?:dizzy2:
Wow the feature-list for 1.5 is unbelievable!! 600 new units wtf!! :dizzy2:
Yantraken I don't know anything about our skitroops but it seems very illogical to use only one stick. Maybee Ironside or Robert will know.
Illogical-maybe,but I`m sure it is a fact.Osprey presents ski trooper with one stick in one hand and with bow and arrows in other.Plus they had muskets in the later time. But I think it depended from some fashion of skiing(they were using legs more often than today.Stick was used sporadically).I`m not sure, but I need those information to finish animation of ski unit.
Greetings all,
Returning to serious gaming after too many years in academia, I come upon Total War, and esp. Hellenic TW. Very damn nice. There was a comment above re other versions of the 30 Years War - there was (is) one; it's a "mod" by one Drummaker (sorry about the spelling!) some 10 years ago from the Warlords II series (Deluxe). Available at Warlords Encyclopedia (Bob Heeter).
I will wait, impatiently, for the spring version. Thanks for working on this!
Cheers,
Lambere
I am sure that they indeed used only one stick to move. About their pose - it was similar to the present skiiers, so watch some sport channels or so :book:Quote:

Hey,
I have a few questions on these skiing units:
Namely, how will the AI handle them in arid and desertic climates? I don't think it should be possible for them to fight in those climates at all except as maybe rank-and-file light infantry.
I will try to make them very hard to build for the AI, but if someone chooses them to use in the desert intentionally I can't do anything against it - it is player's choice after all even if completely unrealistic :book:
Well Desert skiers... Dont sound that bad at least! :2thumbsup:
Yeap,we should also add them some towing lug for Camel sled and oasis detector.~:)
Speaking of camel sleds and sand skiing, are the tuaregs included in Pike and Musket?
Okay perhaps this is more for Pike and Musket 2 (Medieval Total war 2) but the capital of Circassia should be Chantchir not Chantgir I just realized my mistake sorry about that!
BTW here is something you can use to show how the mod Is progressing...
For example lets just say that right now, we are at 94% overally.

It looks nice but I would feel like talking with robot or reading print out from computer.I prefer to read what Cegorach says about progress:book: .Personally I`m to lazy for making such a advancement bar:sweatdrop:
Still it`s worth a try-putting Your idea at the end of Cegorach news presentation~:)

Today I have received the most complicated and sophisticated animations for the mod, screenshots soon + I have several older to show as well :book: :dizzy2:
Might that be our skeetroopers?? ~:)
What happens if you invade, let's say Estonia, with them and it is summer? Will they skii on the grass? :book:
Nope there is something more complicated...
The skii units will always have the option to 'dismount' before the battle into light sniper infantry called Marksmen, but during the winter BEWARE ! :2thumbsup:
Ah genious! :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: Shall use them alot against russians!
I`m almost sure they are not skeetropers:)

Impressive work indeed!
How do you choose between skiing and walking btw?
hmm,let me guess...mouse right click on unit and chose dismount/remount?
Ah ok, thanks. ~:)
I never dismounted units in MTW so that's the reason I didn't know.
Radier I do not know this.I only guessing!:)
And I have a question-I dont know anything about scandinavian history and I ask:does Finland was always in alliance with Sweden?
P.S.Radier- could You please loose a hokey match just once in a time playing against Finland ;)
Heh, infact we loose the majority of the times when we meet them in hockey. They are better than us...
Simplyfied version of finnish history: Well Finland was never an 'ally'. They were the eastern part of Sweden. We sent crusades to Finland in medieval times with the slogan "Baptise or die". Soon the finns became catholic christians and swedish troops pressed eastward and soon Finland was ours and would be that in more than 500 years.
There are like 0.5 million people in Finland who talks swedish; they are descendants from swedish settlers. Many towns and so has swedish names too...
We pressed many many finns in to our lines. They were reliable soldiers. Many must have died for my country wich is pretty awful because when the russians attacked Finland in the second world war we did not help them with troops (only 10 000) so today many finns see negativly on us swedes. Well that is pretty much it. ~:)
My musician teacher in the other school wanted to take Finland back and raise the swedish flag in Helsingfors... :sweatdrop:
Heh,I see You werent good neighbours not only for Pol/Lit Republic:)
My history teacher wanted to make Lwów again Polish city-but in that form which it was in the past(before that stupid german war)-that is multicultural, where poles, ukrainians, turks, tatars, jews, and others lived together.
In my opinion that kind of people(as our teachers) are dangerous because they can use some international situation (aggressive politics for example)to influence somehow society and because of that also government actions making things worse.
Well, you can come try, Radier...:laugh4:
Question for Cegorach, are you doing new animations for line infantry and grenadiers and could you show some screens?
