Although the defenders were both running, broken AND outnumbered they still managed to take down 10+ of my heavy cavalry WITH LIGHT INFANTRY!! So, Leopold felt that stepping aside at that time was more healthy.

I'm awake, and I've got the save. Loaded it up and seems to be in order. Let me get some coffee in me and I'll give Bern a shot.

The only delay I see is in using the uploader, I haven't used it yet but I'm sure it'll be simple enough once I read up on it. Taking screenies might slow me down as well.

Just a quick note to say Bern is the Reich's and I've uploaded the save, I'm going to post IC once I've pulled myself together. Very touch and go. :beam:

I'm glad we have another avatar; it really does enhance the role-playing.

Glad you liked it. I was very happy to see that our relations with Poland had decreased by Max's movements. That gave me a perfect chance to be a righteous ass. A Song of Ice and Fire is my favorite fiction series ever and Tyrion is easily my favorite character from those books, so I suppose that's a possibility, though not a conscious one.

I decided from the beginning to make Max focus strongly on the Papal issue, but I also wanted to avoid being quite as dour as Augustus Verginius was in WOTS. Verginius' rants could be amusing, but in general he was too serious and not enough fun. I was afraid Max could go the same way since his was a religious focus, so I decided to make him a fan of several vices. I haven't shown the first two yet, but in my mind he's a heavy drinker, eater, and womanizer. I figured that would help to make him less one-dimensional than Verginius.

For inspiration, I haven't focused on anything consciously, but upon reflection, I'm probably somewhat influenced by HBO's Rome. Those same attributes are mixed with politics and religion quite often in that series and it works well. Also, given that this is well before the Age of Chivalry and even Popes had wives and mistresses, I thought it would be fitting with the times.

Don't worry though, I have no desire to write anything more explicit than what I already have. Max's extracurriculars will remain entirely off-stage.

LOL, the stories thread is entirely optional. Actually, pretty much everything is entirely optional. That's one of the great things about this type of game. You can tailor your own involvement to whatever you feel like doing. In the WOTS we had people who created incredibly detailed plotlines and personal intrigues. We also had people who did nothing but vote in the elections, even refraining from speaking in the Senate (aka the Diet).

Some of us, like Lucjan, enjoy using the game as an opportunity to write. That's why the stories thread is there... to allow us to amuse ourselves. It is absolutely NOT a requirement for anyone.

I mean all this in a good way, don`t get me wrong on that :)

I`m loving it, and the stories thread for me is a large part of the game as it fills in a hell of a lot of back story for everyone involved.

But those two posts have certainly made me realise the depth that can be had and the level you can go to in this game.

To me it`s not optional, as something very fishy is going between House Austria and Franconia and I`m not really sure what...

These adoptions have reminded me that Bavaria isn't part of the royal family yet. This might cause problems because we won't ever get adoptions or new members by birth until we are part of the family. Presumably, the underaged daughter will be married to either Otto or Max to resolve this, but there are lots of ways this could go awry. First, Heinrich could die before she comes of age, thus preventing her from being a princess and therefore Max and Otto wouldn't be able to marry her. Second, both Max and Otto could die before she comes of age. This is unlikely, but possible.

In both circumstances, Bavaria essentially ceases to exist. As such, I would like to propose the following things to make sure Bavaria goes on regardless of the situation. First, if the daughter comes of age as a princess and either Max or Otto is alive, she should be married to one of them. Second, if she comes of age, but not as a princess, the newly generated character that she marries will be the Duke of Bavaria and will be the head of the new 'branch' no matter what the other circumstances.

I was thinking of marrying her off to Otto, actually. He is younger (IIRC) and Max's... adventures do not make him the ideal royal husband.

It seems that Dietrich doesn't have enough patience to raise his own children. :laugh4:
