OK As I said, Florence is about to finish its walls, so we can recruit BGs there.
BGs hired via recruitment automatically generate an avatar as well. This avatar's stats are based on lesser_adoption (the kind you get from your usual MOTH)
Cecil.....
Bloody Hell mate. :inquisitive:
You went in with just yourself and a unit of Spearmen...
....I can't help but laugh and cry at the same time.
And I would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for those danged archers.
Battle's fougth and won.
Those Spanish DCK's are nasty - they annhilated the Halberd Militia and Spear Milita, if I didn't have those knights I would have lost.
Cecil,
Can you present Becker to the Austrian thread for some adminstration? :balloon2:
I've updated the playlist, so Cecil is Edmund Becker.
Let's go with Factionheir's plan to recruit generals from Florence. Please can people install the latest mod files he has uploaded?
Sadly, FLYdude has withdrawn from the PBM due to time pressures and so won't be needing a new avatar.
Another veteran bites the dust. That's a real shame. How many veterans from WotS do we have left now?
Will play this evening (~ 7pm EST).Quote:

I took the save. Fought a battle with Arnold and did some movement and builds.
Here's the latest save for Tamur and TinCow.

Love your work OK!!
Kev: If you fight any AI turn battles or get to end turn, its advisable that you have them in or else it might mess up the game for other players.
This is true not only for the new files but also for the usual trait and anc files.
So, if I'm not chancellor, not playing defensive battles, and not ending the turn, then I am not messing up the game for anyone else by not installing the fix?
Awesome! :2thumbsup:
well, the mod is like 4 files that you dont have unless u unpack, so it shouldnt be much of an issue to use them. if u want to patch it, just delete the files and then go
*shrug*
Its still the principle of it. If I can get away with not installing it, and it won't hurt the game for anyone else, then I am not going to. If I run for chancellor, get a defensive battle, or for some reason end the turn as a non-chancellor, then I will do it because thats what I agreed to by joining the game. Otherwise I see no need to do it before I have to. I am personally quite satisfied with CA's latest patch and see zero need to change my SP game.
I think FLYdude would have taken Helmut anyway, tho I have to say Helmut is quite old to be a new character.
But now I know that FLYdude won't be taking Helmut, can I have permission to godmod him, so I can use him in my story as I want (I've been waiting for this).
godmod?
As far as I know, he is a spare avatar. He's only in his mid 30's and with the lack of spares, I assume he'll be given to a new player that wants to be in House Franconia. Plus, maybe DG will want him when he gets back.
Yeah, me making up a story about him, I kinda need this for all the stories I want to write about the Teutonic Crusade, unless he's claimed so I can write the stories with someone else. DG mostlikely.Quote:
godmod?
And by now he's in his late 30s, should be 37 or 38 by now.
The thing I worry about is this. I am wary of writing stories about NPC's (Non Player Characters) that are still viable avatars. Because, if someone eventually claims him, then they are kind of pigeon-holed into the personality you gave them.
Its the very reason why I did not include Dieter Bresch in my stories about Jan's feud with Duke Arnold even though it would have made IC sense to do so. I was worried about setting up a new player with a feud with an angry Duke. I did not think it would be fair to who ever took him. Now that BTG has claimed Dieter, he is more free to develop Dieter how he wants to develop him. He is not saddled with a feud that he had nothing to do with.
As long as Helmut is a viable avatar, he should be kept a relatively clean slate so that the next player can make Helmut into what they want him to be and not be saddled with what you made him into.
I disagree. If an avatar already has a background then it's more likely that he'll be picked up by a player. I remember this happened in WotS when a player switched avatars while the former one was still alive because the other one had better potential.
The trick is not to totally close off the different directions that can be taken RP-wise.
I completely agree, hence why I ask permission first.Quote:

I want to write some stories about the Crusade, but it will be hard not to mention Helmut, and I think I can't just let him jump in.

Maybe some players like avatars that have a ready made story to jump into but others, want a clean slate to mold how they wish.
Stig: I didn't say don't mention him. But, if it were me, I wouldn't write about him having much to say or any sort of real opinion. I treat NPC's like any old regiment in stories. In battle I would treat them different because I don't want the avatar to die. But in stories, they are just another soldier to me.
*edit*
GH: Also, with so few avatars, I don't think people are going to be too picky so I am leaning towards making sure people have more RP options and not less.
That's difficult, he's a noble, he's the oldest son of Fredericus, and he's older than Ansehelm himself. I like bringing others into stories. Hence Gert von Runstede, Ansehelms Veteran Warrior.Quote:

Well, there is a difference between retinue and NPC's. Retinue will never be played by another player. NPC's might. Yes, he is a noble and the oldest of the Hamburg/Kastilian kids. But he is not politically active. Also, who speaks for NPC's? What if we both wrote Helmut into our stories. You play Helmut's Duke and I play Helmut's brother so we both have a claim on developing his personality. Who's interpretation wins? I rather that neither of us claim him and that who ever takes Helmut decides what Helmut thinks.
On the other hand, this takes a great deal of potential richness out of the story-world part of the PBM. I personally had hoped to find a character who had been mentioned, and had been a part of a few events, so that I had something to hook into when developing the character.Quote:

What I look for when starting a character is how others react to him. If there is nothing to start out with, I have to try to provoke a reaction, which is not always successful (or even desirable).
Good thought points, I'll be interested to watch any other discussion on this.
If we had spare avatars oozing out of our orifices, I would be more inclined to have avatars that are clean slates and avatars that are more developed with a story. But, if we have a shortage, then I lean more towards having the ones we do have, be clean slates.
Even if we do have so many that some are developed, the problem becomes, who develops them? At what point are we letting people essentially play 2 or more people? Is that fair to those of us who only have one avatar (or no avatar)? Also, if two or more people want to develop an NPC, who decides who's vision wins out? In every RP/LARP I have ever played, its the GMs/ST's that play NPC's, not other players.
