I'm sure Tynes feels that much better after finally making the FG that counts... Favre and the entire GB offese just totally shut down in the 2nd half; I'm sure he's not going to want that performance to be the last of his career, which means poor Aaron Rodgers is gonna have to sit on the bench again. :laugh4:
Whoda thunkit when the G-Men played the Pats in that "meaningless" Week 17 game that, a month or so later, it would be a prelude to the Super Bowl? Congratulations to both teams for getting this far, hope it's a great game (with a Giants victory at the end).

Err, I'm no Giants fan, but you can't say they got 'lucky' when your Hall of Fame QB just hove up a wild pass into a stiff wind deep in his own end during overtime. Favre's a great player, but he threw that game away trying to be a hero. That's who he is, it's how he plays the game, and when it causes a loss you just have to suck it up and accept it.

Ouch! That stung.
Wild passes are the QB's fault alone. It is a fair criticism.

Lousy?... They nearly beat the Patriots in league in a wild game that they shouldda won but instead of playing to win they played to save time (running the ball the first 2 plays) and lost. Not to mention their 10-11 game win streak on the road. Lousy is quite the understatement. They beat the Cowboys who were picked to beat them and same for the Packers. I think that they can beat the Patriots, and also that if it hadn't been for that kicker missing twice, we wouldn't have seen Favre's terrible interception in over-time.
And I don't think it'll be a blowout.

I agree! Don't underestimate the Giants.
Look, I'm the biggest Pats fan there is, but I'm also not delusional. (insert your predictable retort here.)
We nearly lost to who? The Ravens and the Eagles, both quite possibly the worst in the NFL besides the Dolphins. If the worst teams in the NFL can shake us, then surely the Giants, a highly ranked team, have the ability to put up a valliant fight.
The almost beat us last time we played. Let's also not forget, with the exception of this year's Miami team, any team can beat any other team any day of the week. That's a rule, that's a fact, that's scientific truth and an absolute metaphysical certainty. As bad as a team might play, they are a Professional Football team with world class athletes.
A single lucky play by the Giants puts Brady out of the game for good. Not that I want that to happen, but if Brady goes down, Matt Cassel will NOT win the game for us.
And if the Giants played like they did last time, and Moss is made useless for a third game in a row, and Brady doesnt recover from the leg injury... it could spell doom for the greatest team in history, with a hardworking but unlikely Eli Manning as the slayer of the beast.
Look, I want the game to be close, too. I'm not just in it for the win, I'm in it for the entertainment. And I can almost guarantee that this matchup will be an epic showdown.
If the Ravens can do it... if the Eagles can do it... if the Colts could do it... if the Giants already almost did it... then surely, it's POSSIBLE they can finish the Pats off and take home the rings.
But I'm still bettin on the Pats just to shut the critics up. Trash talk all you like, but the Pats are an absolutely phenomenal team. Name one bad player.
Come on, I dare you. Pick one bad player.
Heck, even Cassel got 2 TDs in ONE GAME this year. One run, one throw.
Not bad for a backup QB.
We are not unstoppable. We're mortal. We bleed. We get injured. We have bad days. But I wouldn't bet against us. We are still an anomaly... a team of unprecedented excellence the likes of which no one has ever seen. The records shattered this year aren't an accident.

Can't help it. Grew up in New Hampshire. Lived there for 18 years. I'm not a bandwagon Pats fan, I've been there since the days of Bledsoe when the Pats sucked out loud.
I respect every other team in the league, and I was disgusted when Bellichick sent his little spy cam out there. We dont need to cheat to win, and he got what he deserved. I want my team to play by the rules, and thankfully ever since then they have. But they've also shown incredible teamwork, skill, athleticism, and have been shattering records. They are my team, win or lose.
As much as you'd like the Pats to lose the Super Bowl, do you really want them to lose because Brady got injured, or would you rather see Brady get beat?
I never wish injury upon my opponent. I'd much rather beat them at their best, as that's what sportsmanship is all about. Thats why I hate cheating, I hate bad officiating, and I always cringe whenever someone limps off of the turf, no matter whose team it is.
This is the unlikely hero/storybook ending for little brother Eli Manning. Even Peyton couldnt stop the Pats this year.
What if Eli Manning upsets Tom Brady in the biggest game of all time? And does it without a Tom Brady injury?
Even I, as a Pats fan, would have to give him credit. It's all about the game to me, a good solid decent game. I want my team to win, but I also want them to do their best, and I want their opponents to do their best too. And if we lose, I want us to lose because we got beat by a better opponent, not because our QB got his leg broken.
That's my style. If Eli can beat Tom, then he will shock his critics. He's the ultimate underdog of all time. The Patriots are the unstoppable juggernaut.
No matter what happens at the bowl, assuming its a fair matchup and a close game, and Tom doesn't get hurt, I'll be a happy camper.

Eli won't. Flat out. The Giants 'D, now they might. But last I checked, its a team game, and that's exactly why the Pats won last weekend. Eli will not be a able to stand up to Brady if he has another one of those games like he had against the Jags. Plus, his receivers just simply aren't nearly as good as the Patsy's corps. Eli will need to play very well, undoubtedly. But he'll need A LOT of support from his running game, blocking, recievers, and defense. Even a great quarterback will look bad if he's on his own and his recievers are dropping passes and his line as porous as a sponge.

Here I am, the Pats fan, defending the Giants.
Do we recall not a few weeks back the Giants put up what was it 35 points against the Pats? That's all Eli Manning. Brady's had some bad days too. We won a game this year without a single Brady TD pass.
We BARELY beat the Giants. Now they are fired up. How can anyone say the Giants have no chance? They have EVERY chance.
They pretty much have the best chance. We trailed most of the last game against them. Or was I the only one watching? lol

Well it was all okay until you started to say the Pats will win then ya lost me.
And Kamikhaan- If Eli supposedly is as terrible as you say... then why is he in the Super Bowl?? He and the rest of his team must have done something, and how do teams win games??... o right when their quarterback decides to hike the ball and drive his team into the endzone or kick FG's time and again. Then he is backed up by a solid looking defense. And yes he can be one of those up-'n-down quarterbacks, but the fact that he'll suck wind in the Superbowl. Again I think you guys are all underestimating Eli, cuz if he isn't as good as you guys think he is... then he would be on the bench or not in the playoffs for that matter. So... I dunno where your logic is coming from.

@Decker: I'm not dissing Eli in anyway. I'm actually quite a fan of his, being that he's Peyton's brother and all. I'm just saying that, realistically, Eli almost certainly will not beat Brady on his own. The Patsies are simply just too good for that to happen. The rest of the Giants are going to have to play exceptional as well for the team to have a chance. Eli COULD outperform Brady. Afterall, I've seen weirder things happen in a football game. However, the rest of the Pats are sure to show up with their hair on fire, and frankly, are a much better team, as a whole. The Giants COULD beat them, but its going to take an exceptional performance by the ENTIRE team, not just Eli. That's what my point was.

True, but after watching the Pats playoff games and the Giants... I'd say the Giants are playing very hard while the Pats are kinda just not really giving it their all from what I've seen. And not to mention that I think the Giants have all of the momentum while the Pats have the media.

From what I've seen the Pats pace themselves on defense, but they will turn up the intensity and take more risks later in the game if things aren't going well. That pacing allows the defense to play a strong 4th quarter, but may be a symptom of an aging defense.
I expect the Giants defense to be going full speed the whole game, and putting a lot of pressure Bradey. That's the best way to counter all those good pass receivers and the accuracy of Bradey's passing. Tom Bradey is possibly showing some signs of the pressure to win by throwing 3 interceptions last Sunday. I think it will come down to whether or not the Pats offensive line can handle the Giant's pass rush. Both teams have a good safety blitz that I'm sure we'll see used.
Maroney has excellent speed running to the outside, but the Giants have some very fast defensive players to counter that. Both teams have a strong running game with the Giants having the advantage here I would say, but they also both have the defense to stop the running game. That's going to open up passing opportunities downfield as the game progresses, and the team giving their quarterback the better protection will be able to take better advantage of those downfield passing opportunities. Of course, turnovers can swing the game either way, and injuries during the game could play a role as well.

Re: Official 2007-08 NFL thread
You know the more I watch the Patriots defense the more I think Belicheck has succeeded in making an idea work that many thought was impossible. His smart older players are outplaying the other team's faster, younger players. Especially in the second half, when they're supposed to fade. I've been saying it all year, the Patriots make the best halftime adjustments in the game. If you don't beat this team, and substantially, in the first half then you are going to get exposed in the second half.
I'm not a Patriots fan. In fact, they're one of the franchises I like the least. I don't think that little incident at the start of the 2k7 season was the first time they've massaged the rules, and I don't think Brady always being on the injury report is cute, and I'll never forgive the Tuck Rule.
All that being said, I won't ignore the truth just because I don't like this team or their coach. Belicheck is a legendary coach. The Pats front office has an uncanny knack for developing talent and ressurecting unwanted players who still have years left to play. The players listen to their coach because they know he can bring them victory, even when they spent the entire rest of their career ignoring the coach and showboating.
Don't worry about Brady's interceptions. In the post season the running game becomes paramount. It happens every year, teams tear up the NFL throwing the ball around, and in the playoffs they either turn to the run game or they get beat because defenses stop playing safe and bring their A game. I thought the Pats had lost the habit of running, like Indy did a few years ago, but I was wrong.
I hope the Superbowl will be interesting, but I'm not betting on it. Good luck to the Giants. They're a good team, for an NFC club, and they earned this shot at redemption, but they'll have to play a perfect game.

Is anyone else in a pool? After netting a dismal 67% correct-pick average for the season, I joined 2 of the "no skill required" pools, with the last digits of scores on the outside of 100 "pick-em" blocks.
Latest Vegas & off-shore "line" = NE by 12, down from 12.5 earlier in the week. Sounds like folks are hedging bets just a bit IN CASE Brady has a heart-attack, or tears a hangnail, or something.

I have two blocks in one of those pools, neither of them good. The first one is 6-6 which is darn near impossible to get. The second one is slightly better, but not really feasible until the end of the game (so no racking up the $ for early-game wins).
