Heh, excellent game. We really should have lynched atheotes instead of greyblades or beefy.

I wish I'd gotten my vote in a few minutes earlier the day we lynched greyblades.
I assumed we had the time to lynch both beefy and atheotes. Bad mistake..
One of the longest "small mafia" games on record I believe.

Role PMs and structure:
Don:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
A Very Super Market
Anthony Giampetro – Don
Description: The unquestioned ruler of the Catalano crime family for over a decade, you are a very shrewd, powerful man. However, you can also sense the walls closing in on you. The Feds want to take you down. You know they’re after you. They have in all probability infiltrated your organization. The code of Omertà may soon be in danger.
So far, though, you are untouchable so long as your Underboss, Consigliere, or at least two of your Capos remain alive. Should you lose all of them, however, you know you’re vulnerable.
Powers: Every two nights, starting on Night 1, you may investigate someone to determine their loyalties. In addition, you may at any time bestow the role of “Don’s Hand” to any one player. This player is granted with the ability to kill as a vigilante, however, it replaces any ability they may already have. Finally, in the event of the death of one of your Capos, you may promote one of the Made men to take their place. Likewise, in the event of the death of your Underboss or Consigliere, you may promote one of your Capos to take their place. You may only use each of the promotion abilities ONCE.
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
Underboss:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Tratorix
Michael Delvecchio – Underboss
Description: The second-in-command of the Catalano crime family and one of the Don’s two right-hand men, along with the Consigliere. You hand down orders to the family Capos, who report directly to you. Your Don is in a bit of a spot right now, as he knows the family has been infiltrated. Anyone is a suspect, including the Consigliere and your precious Capos.
Powers: You command considerable muscle in the family. Every night you may send soldiers to protect the home of one person. The police, seeking to avoid violence, will not arrest somebody after a firefight and that person will be protected. In addition, you are somewhat protected against arrest yourself.
Don Giampetro knows your identity. It is up to you if you wish to reveal it to anyone else.
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
Consigliere:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
pevergreen
Vito Fillari – Consigliere
Description: You are the consigliere, or adviser, of the Catalano family and a personal friend of Don Giampetro’s for many years. You are his right-hand man along with his Underboss, and answerable only to the Don. You represent him in official meetings and in some ways are more powerful than the Underboss. It is your job to assist the Don in these times of trouble.
Powers: Every night, you may investigate one person to determine their true loyalties to the Catalano family. However, these results may be ambiguous and you may need to conduct a follow-up investigation. In addition, you are somewhat protected against arrest (night killings in this game).
Don Giampetro knows your identity. It is up to you if you wish to reveal it to anyone else.
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
Capo:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
atheotes
Frank Ianetta – Capo
Description: An “officer” of sorts in the Catalano family, you directly command a group of Made men and answer to the Underboss. You enjoy far more power and prestige than the average Made man in the outfit, and you are well aware of every person under your command’s activities.
Powers: Every other night, starting Night 2, you may investigate one person under your command and determine their true loyalties to the Catalano family.
The Made men you control are FactionHeir, spL1tp3r50naL1ty, and Greyblades, however, for game balancing purposes they are unaware of your or anyone else’s identity.
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
Made man:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
FactionHeir
Joseph D’Orazio – Made man
Description: A loyal foot soldier of the Catalano family. While the lowest-ranking official member, you still are incredibly well-off, as the Mafia works plenty of times with uninducted associates. You also enjoy the full protection and services of the Catalano organization, which is more than can be said for a lot of poor souls trying to get in.
Powers: As a Made man, you are eligible to have a voice in the daily Mafia Councils in order to express your opinion on who the stoolies are. In addition, you are allowed to vote for the person who you think is most likely guilty to be “taken for a ride”. (In other words, standard townie role).
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
Capo promotion:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
As you are going about your day, you receive a phone call from the Don, asking you to come in and see him. Naturally, you oblige. He asks you a few questions regarding loyalty and what not, and you answer honestly, being an honest soldier. At the end of it, he shakes your hand, and promotes you.
Congratulations, you are now a Capo.
Sasaki Kojiro
Vincent Selvo - Capo
Description: An “officer” of sorts in the Catalano family, you directly command a group of Made men and answer to the Underboss. You enjoy far more power and prestige than the average Made man in the outfit, and you are well aware of every person under your command’s activities.
Powers: Every other night, starting Night 2, you may investigate one person under your command and determine their true loyalties to the Catalano family.
The Made men you control are navarro951 and Beefy187, however, for game balancing purposes they are unaware of your or anyone else’s identity. Your previous Capo was Shinseikhaan.
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
~~~~~~~~~
(I do realize that your role has become somewhat useless by now, but we'll see what happens.)
Don's Hand promotion:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
As you are going about your day, you receive a phone call from the Don, asking you to come in and see him. Naturally, you oblige. He asks you a few questions regarding loyalty and what not, and you answer honestly, being an honest soldier. At the end of it, he shakes your hand, and promotes you.
Congratulations, you are now the Don's Hand.
navarro951
Sal the Barber - Don's hand
Description: Drastic times call for drastic measures. Don Giampetro has called upon you above all of his other soldiers to enforce his will on the Catalano family. You are above everything - the law (unless you get caught), the Don's officers, even the Catalano code of justice itself - in your attempts to solve this crisis your own special way.
Powers: Every night, you must send me the name of one person whom you wish to kill. This is essentially the same as arresting somebody, but as a vigilante you seek to take out the Stoolies, not bring mafiosi to justice. While you are obviously in the Don's favor, him having placed so much faith and trust in you, you do not count as an objective for the Stoolies to take out and are unable to protect your Don/draw fire in any way.
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
Stoolie (PM provided minutes after the original PMs were sent):
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
atheotes and FactionHeir
Frank Ianetta and Joseph D'Orazio - The Stoolies
Description: Congratulations, you're betraying your blood brothers, deciding to throw in your lot with the *gag* law. For whatever reason - the Don annoyed you, the cops got you in trouble and you took a deal, you've been working with them from the start - you have decided to break Omertà and turn in the members of the Catalano family.
Ultimately, your goal is to bring down Don Giampetro. However, he is untouchable at the moment. First, you need to take down his higher-ranking members: His Underboss, consigliere, and one of his Capos.
Despite the fact that FH is under atheotes's command as Capo, as far as the rest of the town's concerned, there is no difference in rank between you two as stoolies.
Powers: Every night, you may choose one of the following combinations:
- Team up and tell the cops to arrest (night-kill) one person. This guarantees success.
- Have one of you tell the cops to arrest someone, and the other investigate someone else in order to determine their rank in the Catalano hierarchy.
- Have two of you tell the cops to arrest different people. Due to balancing issues, this option may only be chosen TWICE.
- Team up and investigate the same person in order to obtain more thorough results.
Good luck. :2thumbsup:
~~~~~~~~~~~
Errata:
The Underboss and Consigliere were immune to one arrest attempt each. After that, they would require protection. A team-Stoolie kill would blast through either immunity or protection, however. However, if both were laid together, a team Stoolie kill would not. However, had they recruited Split at that point and put all three Stoolies to kill one person, both immunity and protection would be rendered moot.
Split would have been recruited by a simple arrest attempt - no special orders required.
As I said in the thread, investigation abilities varied. The Consigliere and Stoolies got to investigate every night, but with minimal results - starting out with just rank, like so:

In the case of investigation of atheotes or FH, "Loyal Soldier" would have been replaced by "Disloyal." In the case of investigation of Split, I would have put nothing down for loyalty. However, if he was converted by that point, he would have received the "Disloyal" epithet.
If the Consigliere/Stoolie did a third follow-up, I provided them with a "Psychological profile" which made plain their loyalty, role, and vulnerability (in the case of the Don).
The Don and the Capos got to investigate less frequently, but OTOH it only took them one try to get to "Level 2" of the investigation details. In addition, were atheotes to investigate any of the men under him as Capo, he would get Level 2 as well.
Once FH was lynched, I upgraded atheotes's powers in order to not cripple him:

The good news: You may now "arrest" and investigate one person every night. In addition, the investigation results you obtain will be more thorough than the previous ones.
The bad news: The double-arrest option and the "gang-up" arrest options are now closed off to you.
You're in the hole, but you're by no means out of this. Good luck in the rest of the game. FH will still be able to help you out, but in an advisory capacity only. :yes:
From that point on, atheotes went straight to Level 3 (Psychological Profiles) whenever he investigated somebody.
All roles were determined by random.org. In addition, I determined Stoolies after I had already sent out PMs to everybody, in order to test the flexibility of the system. I wonder how things would have turned out, for example, if random.org had spat back Tratorix or pever as one of the Stoolies. Tratorix was absolutely huge in this game, and a big congrats to him. It would have been very bad for the Don if he were an enemy.
In conclusion, once again, I think this system was a success and am eager to try it out again. Thanks for playing, everybody! :medievalcheers:

Speaking of mafia themed games, I have a classic one coming up instead of my Dark Vacuum variant - everything is quite worked out, and with GH's permission, I would like to make it a continuation of this game under his tutelage.
