I also play with general cam and disabled overview map btw.
Wow general cam with disabled map. That is hardcore.
I also play with general cam and cant imagine not using map (at least on huge unit sizes ).
Unless the terrain is favourable you just cant see what is going on on the other flank. I use minimap to gain this knowledge and also to give commands to units.
When I was not using general cam I didnt think much about minimap, but it is really great.

Sounds harder than it is - i usually split up the army in center, right and left, commanding the stronger and mostly decisive wing. After the initial impact of the armies, i give control of the other wings to the AI.

I do the same. The only way to command on huge unit sizes. Still map is very useful. Without it you have no clue what is going on on the other wing. And if you send small detachment somewhere you have no idea where it is and what its doing.
Dont event start me on forest battles when you can only control 3 units that are next to you. Map is indispensable at such occasions.

WHAT?! :laugh4:
Wow! That is the most shocking statement I've heard in a while. To think that you trust the AI so completely as to give them control of an entire section of the battle line is pretty... "amazing," to say the least.

Always play with banners off and general cam on.

Ooh Foots well 'ard init :beam:. I enjoy watching the battle from the enemy point of view, and sometimes from afar, just to get a real view of the whole battle without controlling anything. Dont you miss out on this with General Cam?
Re: Do you play with banners enabled or disabled?
General cam is just too debilitating for me. It may be nice for hardcore gamers, but I actually like to scroll to the edge of the map and watch the countryside, or the battle from afar.

Aye, can't get good battle screenshots if you've only got the one viewpoint available to you. I like to mix up close stuff with open shots from afar so people can get an idea of the bigger picture.

As i said, i control the decisive wing myself, including most of the cavalry, i mostly use some skirmishers behind the other wings to protect from enemy mounted units.

Yes, I miss them. But I don't miss the absolutely lazy way I could win nearly every time. Things are really quite hard nowadays. I don't tend to lose by so much more, but I do lose more troops in a battle. That added to the policy of always ending the battle when the scroll comes up rather than spending all the time killing as many of the run aways as possible, means that winning badly can turn some expansions into phyrric ones quite quickly.
