Re: Post your favorite quote...
“Man is never honestly the fatalist, nor even the stoic he fights his fate, ofter desperately. He is forever entering bold exceptions to the rulings of the bench of gods. This fighting no doubt, makes for human progress, for it favors the strong and the brave. It also makes for beauty for lesser men try to escape from a hopeless and intolerable world by creating a more lovely one of their own.”

My all-time favorite quote:
Quote:
Ernie Pyle-
In their eyes as they pass is not hatred, not excitement, not despair, not the tonic of their victory - there is just the simple expression of being here as though they had been here doing this forever, and nothing else.
The ******** Infantry
He was talking about getting a Masters and Doctorate Degree....
Quote:
A Friend of Mine-
"No one said it was gonna be easy! If it was, everyone would do it..that's who you know who really wants it."
Our beloved Bierut discussing the tragedies of life
Quote:
Bierut-
All us men suffer in equal parts, it's our lot in life, and no man goes without a broken heart or a lost love. Like holding your dog as he takes his last breath and dies in your arms, it's a rite of passage. Unavoidable. And honestly, I can't imagine life without that depth of feeling.-Bierut
Bierut's Post
Just some good ones I like:
Quote:
Cullen Hightower-
"Laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our own life. Laughing at someone else's can shorten it."
Quote:
Robert McNamara-
And the conventional wisdom is: don't make the same mistake twice. Learn from your mistakes. And we all do. Maybe we make the mistake three times, but hopefully not four or five.
And two random ones:
Quote:
"Trying is just a easy way of saying you didn't do it"
Quote:
"Due to the presence of fools wise people stand out"

One with some personal meaning...

Re: Post your favorite quote...
But nothing is lasting in this world. Even joy begins to fade after only a minute. Two minutes later, and it is weaker still, until it is swallowed up in our everyday, prosaic state of mind, just as a ripple made by a pebble gradually merges with the smooth surface of the water. - Nikolai Gogol

Aside from the one in my sig, one of my other favorite Org quotes comes courtesy of Big John:
"Shakespeare and jazz = not good. Under any circumstances. Dissenters will be ostracized." :laugh4:
As for more well-known quotes, one of my favorites -- those not already mentioned here, anyway -- is from Robert E. Lee (apologies if I don't get it quite right):
"It is well that war is so terrible, lest we should grow too fond of it."
