Got it. My beta key.
But I have to work all day today. :juggle2:
Tomorrow though, around noon, I will lock myself in my study with a cup of steaming hot coffee, a chicken sandwich, a pack of ciggies and my beta key.

I was about to say nahssing but apparently it was good that i signed up shortly after you, because I also received my beta key.... ~D
Havent got one, and I'm not to dissapointed. With L4D and ETW...why I dont have enough time to play it anyway.
It's not that great anyway I must say, could be fun, but could also use more players per server if you ask me, maybe they just handed out keys and that's why it wasn't really full yet, but uhm, well...more later maybe.
I like it so far. The basic scenario is similar to that Battlefield 1942 and BF2. Two sides, three classes (soldier, heavy gunner and commando) that level up through kills and caps. The feel of the whole thing is very cartoonesque as could be expected. The tanks are funny and the planes are a delight to fly, the fights are as intense as they can get despite all the 'whoosh!' and 'eeeee!" sounds, and I think team and clan tactics will certainly pay off.
On the downside the characters move slowly -- too slowly to my taste -- and I've already had the dreaded BF screen several times: 'There is a problem with your connection'. So many online games get this right, even free and open source games like Wolfenstein ET have no connections issues. Why, oh why can't Electronic Arts?
EDIT
Another thing I like is that I haven't yet encountered the usual 'OMFG u n00b!' comments in the chatbox. The atmosphere is relaxed and - dare I say it - adult.
2nd EDIT
I take back the remark about movement. They have introduced Hero Points which you earn during gameplay and which you can spend on special abilities such as running (yes, that takes care of the slow movement), frenzied firing or self-healing. So if you spawn in an isolated spot you can press the 'whoosh' button and move quickly to where the action is. When others do that, you actually see a trail of smoke behind them. It's all very well done, and there is much more to the dynamics of the game than first meets the eye.
Speaking of which, meet my main character: Baron von Knirpshoff, aka 'Ze Blue Baron', flying ace, known to his friends (and in-game) as "Knirps".

3rd EDIT!!
Nice to be playing together with Husar/KarlKarolinger. Hallo! Jahaa!
This game is best played with real teams. We should really try to put together a national Battalion of orgahs as soon as other members have keys.
If we can have only a small team, it could be a Panzerjäger unit, consisting of two heavy gunners and one soldier in a jeep. All similarly dressed in black, I would say, with the WWII pisspot helmets, revolver belts, etcetera. The soldier can heal, the gunners can repair, together they concentrate on eliminating Royal tanks.
I really hope they will introduce the squad spawn like they had in BF2, where if you die you can span on your squad leader. It helps teamplay in a big way. Now if we could also chose our map of preference ..
So yes, was fun today, I experienced more teamplay than before, usually I would end up alone vs 2 or so up until today.
My game restarted when Vista had to restore my video driver (it's called BSoD in XP and is followed by a mandatory restart of the whole system ~;) ).
The driver apparently likes doing that and I'm certainly not going to buy an MSI notebook again, but for now it will have to do. Well, that's why I left, and then I had a chat with a girl. ~;)
I need to get a bit into those gestures and special abilities, haven't really changed any so far and am just using the starting config, which is a bit hard to kill with IMO, the weapon damage is rather low and it can lag quite a bit when there is a full-screen explosion so I get confused for a second, heh.
Otherwise it's fun.
They should work on stimulating teamplay. All classes should work toward the same goal. The commando's are physically underwhelming atm and they have very little to contribute to the team - except headshots. Soldiers and gunners are the real teamplayers. It was a great idea to give soldiers the ability to heal themselves only if they heal others in the process.
Anyway last night for the first time I had some real teamplay on Seaside Skirmish map. The fighting focused on the lighthouse cap, we had some tremendous tank battles with planes roaring overhead and gunners and soldiers hopping to and fro behind buildings. Huge mayhem = huge fun. Jawohl.
So do we play as Ze National army or the Royal Army?
Ze national army of course!
I finally had a look at the special abilities etc and gave my soldier some nice medic skills, also connected my joystick and flew a bit but whenever I got a place, the fight was between buildings, and when I didn't have a plane, there were tanks killing me in the open field. :wall:
Well, I'm sure it will work some day, but flying with a joystick is so much better anyway.
I noticed sticky TNT only hurts a tank real bad but doesn't destroy it, while that is nice for the tank it leaves a soldier almost chanceless against tanks, except maybe if grenade spam is good against tanks but so far I've only had some enemy kill me on foot very often with his über grenade spam. :sweatdrop:
So Im playing right now, enjoying the commando too much i must say, but it seems we outnumber the royal army often. But I'm working towards being able to not move and pick people off half way accross the map with a super rifle when i hit them in the head.
Any of you guys wanna play later?
Hitting a fly on the other side of the moon without moving. You have truly mastered the spirit of Zen, grasshopper. :laugh4:
Welcome to Ze Nashional Ahmehhhh, Herr Veho Nex. Don't be distracted by Husar's complaints. He is doing alright, but he is either too modest or too much of a whiner to admit it.
I'm as happy as a little gunner can be. I'm getting better with tanks. The tank interface and physics are truly great in this game, they're a credit to the Battlefield series. Once you get the hang of mentally separating the left hand (driving) from the right (looking, aiming, firing), the action becomes very fast and effective. Instead of just barging into a flagpoint as I usd to at the beginning, I clear it out first and I usually destroy at least two enemy tanks before mine is finished. Yesterday night I was really on a roll for the first time, and killed seven enemy tanks in a five minute round.
I also have two machine guns now, which I carry in game. That is fun because once the first one is empty I don't reload, I just change to the other and keep pumping bullets. People are (unhappily) surprised when I'm done with Rudi's Ridiculous (ratatata) and whip out Wolfgang's Wonderful (dut-dut-dut-dut). Together with the Panzerfaust this makes me something of a tank all by myself.
A tank within a tank.
Homo tankulus.
I got my key in an email today. Deleted it. I have no desire to download or play this game anymore.
well, you weren't in that game where the enemy team had 36 points left when we lost but you were in the game where you had 7-0 kills and I had 0-5 because I couldn't spot any enemies in my plane. :sweatdrop:
That's how it works on the Ps3, but on the PC you're just trying to confuse little left-handed me, mice belong on the left side of the keyboard and movement controls are for the arrow keys I say. :whip:
But it's your national duty to be able to drive a tank!
Well, that begs the simple question: Why? :inquisitive:
Are you just mad you didn't get your key earlier or is it because it isn't historically accurate as you expected? ~;)
I'm not a history buff, it just doesnt seem like my game.
I have L4D anyway.
Downloads are precious for Australians, we only get so much per month. We pay an arm and a leg for it as well.
:beam:No no, I play on the PC, too. Only my mouse is on the right hand side of the keyboard, of course. And a Dzerman officer can do anyssing, jawohl.Quote:
That's how it works on the Ps3
It's a pity about Gefreiter pevergreen. Let's hope we will get more .org beta keys soon.
Of course, there is no BF heroes for the PS3, just all the shooters i have for it use the right hand stick to look, left to move. And quite frankly, I couldn't really do it the other way around I think, it's how I imagined it even before buying the thing. I also use my joystick with the right hand, but I can't write with it at all.
Not that it really matters for the discussion but I like to give such details on the internet because, well because I like blabbering most likely. ~;)
Soooo... does anyone want to play?
I run two VehoNex and Nex1Up
Well, it worked, didn't it? :2thumbsup:
At first I didn't realise it was you. I was surprised that some idiot was stalking me, going 'Knirps, I keeell you' and 'Knirps, you are so going to die'. :inquisitive:
Then it dawned on me this was an avatar of VehoNex, the Dead Latinist of the .Org. :beam:
Suddenly you were gone, so was practically everybody on server. Many people including me were experiencing heavy lag, I think, but only for half an hour. After that we played some terrific rounds with great teamwork on both sides. That's when this game really comes into its own.
Always said your game was full.
I tried to rejoin to give you a hand in decimating the comp as my sniper but couldnt re connect.
Yeah, well, it's a closed beta. There are still all sorts of problems, the matchmaking system is far from perfect etcetera. But EA/Dice are responding well and working on it all the time, even though they have a very small team since this is a free game and an experiment. The funny thing is that the occasional major lag and choppiness started only after they began implementing changes, then it got worse, and now it is getting better and better. Yesterday night I had some of the smoothest gameplay ever since I started testing BFH, and this on servers that were filled to the brim.
just got my beta key :3
I'm now playing as well! Nick is Joltie!
