A Suitable Husband

If he's too old, I reject the offer. No use for old geezers without proper armour and virility.
Otherwise, I take nearly everyone - give him a tutor, put him in a city with good educational system, let him stew there for 10 years ...very often I get a quite decent governor, sometimes even a general. If he still remains a complete failure, he might be used for border patrol duties including the toils of building watchtowers and forts or for banzai-charges against rebel stacks. (Yes, I like role-playing with FMs). I think it is quite nice to have a stack of replacement rulers in case the older generation kicks the bucket en masse. Plus I get the feeling that the requests for marriage drop significantly if you reject suitors too often. But when I can afford it, i.e. I have enough pure-blooded FMs, I usually reject only the first offer, if the guy is a complete loser, and normally, the next suitor is of better quality. But I NEVER NEVER accept anyone who is disloyal: Might be an enemy in disguise...

But as far as I know the loyalty trait only appears a turn after you accept a suitor. It only appears automaticly for sons coming of age.

I once got 107 years old, KH general (the one with Spartans)... just save the game when he is 65, exit EB, play EB the next day, load the savegame, and he will be wandering out until he reach 90 and more (but most dies at 93 or 94).....

but now I roleplay the 80++ generals the soft way.... they will govern a peaceful, mostly remote heartlands or islands, with all their retinues are given away for their nice, young grandchild (roleplay to tutoring the youngsters)...... that shares the very same city...... (for the purpose of inhibiting sudden revolt when they passed away)

In EB I also never get a suitable husband, but I always take the dull ones, because they can become great supervisors or generals. By the way my oldest general in Vanilla got 98. The makedonian Faction leader you start with. In Eb I never got one past 64. :furious3::furious3:
You just cant move generals around cause they always get tired or on his deathbed etc.. I guess it shortens their live span

The best suitors that comes to my daughters is 39 years old guy, he had natural genius trait, and some good command traits...... (total 5 command, 7 management, 3 influence).... too bad he had scarred traits first...... but he marry my 12 years old daughter.....

So if the lifespan is hardcoded, how come there's a significant lifespan difference between vanilla and EB?

I don't think there is a difference. At least I didn't see any change from vanilla to EB. The age at which my FM's died was 60-65.

But there is something strange. In my fist ever installation of RTW my FM's would consistently reach the age of 70. In later reinstalls I got to my current age limit.

Yep its hard not to feel "fatherly" toward the young women of your faction. I hate marrying them to guys twice their age.

Is there not a lot of info on marrying ages in the EB period? I know in medieval and early modern times princesses could be married at 8 or 9, but not expected to consummate the marriage uintil they hit puberty, ie 12-14.

I've read about a couple of princesses left widows before they could have children, one was married to an early Ottoman prince (before they went to the Harem system exclusively), the other I forget, a French or English prince maybe.

Interesting that you get to choose the boys marrying into the dynasty, but not the girls. I guess their attributes are represented in their husbands descriptors rather than attached to the women themselves. If the women did have identifiable characters then you could deliberately select against undesirable traits: "no wedding forn you, my healthy ignorant daughter, only for your sister who is above reproach!".

Maybe someone could make a decent mini-mod out of it: My Big Fat Koinon Hellenion Wedding.

Its a different game but, I remember someone bragging about back in the old Shogun TW days that they managed to have one of their generals (shingen takeda) age up really high and then have his age go back down to the minimum which was 15 or 16 or something. Not sure if its still possible in these later versions, but had something to do with only having a few bytes of data to represent the age and so if it goes high enough (i think it was 125 in Shogun) then it will revert to the bottom end of the range.

Could keep a general alive forever if you saved and loaded every single turn...

Wonder if anyone has the patience to try?

As far as I know it still somewhere around 125 in RTW.

In vanilla RTW the starting faction leader of the julii (Flavius or something) in my game rose to the respectable age of 90 without reloading.
At that point the civil war started and I kept him alive throughout it; not counting the reset to zero at 125 he reached the age of 300. It took a plague in Rome to keep him down (and I got tired of reloading and the julii campaign itself).

So, one byte? I wonder what the MSB would be used for (7 bits would allow you to count from 0-127, just beyond the range of coded maximum age limit)

very lucky indeed.... only once in my recent Baktrian campaign... the others before him just some useless 50 years junkies with many negative trairts.... I suppose after a series of Bad-Bad-Bad suitors, you will got a really nice suitor.......

I would hazard a guess that Mediolanicus has employed 1337 PAINT SKILLZ to give the appearance of one continuous scroll (also, he may have set his Campaign Map resolution to a higher level than yours)

In my KH campeign, im waiting for a marriage offer from either Ionian or Kretan.

Instead I always seems to get Korinthian or Black sea area dudes (forgot what they are called..)

In vanilla, some years ago, my starting faction leader from my seleucids campaign died at 99 years. Without doing the save and reload trick

They should make it where the woman could remarry if her husband dies while shes still young.

As Pontos it seems like 4/5 suitors are Kappadokos. It would be nice to have some diversity, especially considering I'm down to only one royal family member at this point.

In my newly started KH Campaign I note down all new Daughters of the house with name, date of birth and Ethniicty of the father.
that way I keep track of the age difference and ethnic disputes thus a Sparten DAd would always take a Vigorous Spartan who went though the agoge command stars also help whereas an athenian would rather look forward to a sharp lad with some management traits etc.
It's a bit steriotypical but It's fun and good for RP purposes.

As for me I marry everyone off ASAP regardless of traits since they still have some use regardless how craptastic they may be. Plus the chance of getting children is usually worth it anyway, or you could always just leave them on border patrol and fight off rebels from cities.
