oh that was a drinking accident...another reason why you shouldn't drink and driv- er.. go to battle.
Getting angry, are we?
WAAAY off the EB-time period dude.
EDIT: OK, just realized Satalexton already said that
Tha same as what happened when the Galatians met Seleucid elephants.
Maion
No Maion, I am not angry, I have accepted your delusions without myself denying the greatness of Hellas. But I am annoyed that you two had turned every second thread into Hellene-loving drivel when you yourself Maion is the first to pounce on other spammers, I sort of dislike double standards.
I would much rather have you just keep On Topic for I realise that it is too much to expect that you will ever be subjective on matters Hellenic.
As for the longsword it is a fine specimen of a 14th century one as far as I can see, and a replica not meant for combat, but I guess that is what he could find quickly.
It should of course have been the Gladius Hispanensis... or come to think of it, despite the Romans routinely slaughtering the Hellenes, the ones to kill most hellened were neither Romans nor Celts, it was other Hellenes, so it should be a Sarissa or Hoplite spear ;-)
Sorry Maion, but I must second Macilrille.
I am myself a loyal fanatic of (Greek) Hellenism AND I have read some posts from you (that deal with
other topics or with details of hellenic warfare or other technical stuff) that I found very entertaining and informative.
However, everytime the dual mean-machine-spike-all-disbelievers-very-high-into-the-air-upon-extra-hellenic-and-long-sarissae-super-phalanx of Maion and Satalexton appears on the horizon, any other topics crawl under the carpet and start crying for their mothers, except that their mothers can't help them because they are quickly impaled on the sarissae...
And this is bound to happen as soon as someone mentions either anything connected with hellenism or with the enemies of hellenism. Maybe next thing it is going to be anything during the same time period as hellenism, then same planet, then same galaxy--- I mean, you did already claim thatBartix be a member of hellenism, right?
Look, this is all quite funny and I like an occasional not-too-objective rant upon the greatness of hellas, might even partake in one - but it seems to be getting a bit out of hand as of late. There are of course threads where it is appropriate - for instance the legendary legion vs phalanx war thread, which is where I think all this started - but this is a thread asking for hints at Roman strategy. Count the number of brainfart-posts and the number of on-topic-posts...
My count up to this one:
On topic, including OP: 9
Off topic, unhappy about it/responding to this, including this post:4
Off topic, happily screaming hellenism or responding to it:21
No topic, inquisitive smiley by Maion:1
To be fair, I must say that you two are not the only ones currently engaging in this sort of subconscious-spilling on threads that can be construed to justify it. But you are the ones currently doing it in this thread, and it would be wrong to let Macilrille take all the retaliation for saying what probably more users than just the two of us think.
And one or two hellene-praise posts per thread would be fine with me no matter what the topic.
However, this is a bit much.
BTW, I liked the HAIL makedonia version better than HEIL makedonia... But that's just my opinion of course.
Fine, we'll take apart our sarissae for a while =] (convenient huh? our sarissae come with bronze rings that hold the 2 pieces together, another proof of our hellenic superi- ahem, tactical prowness =D)
And congrats =], finally you start to pick up on our (a little too) subtle sarcasm.
Hey, just read two eb - quotes that might help you a bit:
first: "Ah! The generals! They are numerous but not good for much!"
Second: "Stop quoting law. We carry Swords"
So my choice would be a towndefendtodeath-fight - phalanxes don“t work on walls.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Yes back to the original question.
A while back there was a thread named "Understanding a Sally" I think, dealing with how your inferior garission could wear down their enemies in sallies and eventually defeat them. I think the original poster here would reap much benefit from reading that thread. Even if vastly ouynumbered there is no reason to just wait, starve, then fight to the last. You can do some serious damage to the besiegers in sallies.
Now when I actually met this thread first the poster had already fought to the last and inflivted heavy casualties. But for the future the sally tactic may be beneficial. Or if he has a savegame he can go back and try again.
i adore using slingers and archers on the walls, along with cheap hippakonkistai to wear down a larger enemy every turn. usually they give up and retreat after half their numbers are lost..
Hehe, ok you're both quite funny :beam:
