The point I'm trying to make is that you may ridicule this technique all you want... but it worked.
I'm not saying its not effective. It'll just look hilarious if the unit has a standard formation and starts doing that in unison.

We can only have one charge animation per animation family, afaik. However, unless you have synchronised animations on, such animations will occur at different times (I think that option isn't even available in MTW2 anymore).

It would look good if it was asynchronous, but yeah if they did it in unison it would look a little like a meat grinder.
