Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Hate it. Too commercialized, too much hassle, everyone running around like headless chickens, overall this is the worst time of the year. The holidays are supposed to be joyous and happy, but everyone turns into a real :daisy: from the Friday after Turkey Day through Dec 24th. Gah, Humbug!
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
My advent calender came with jokes! 1st decembers is:
What do you call a Snowman Bitten by a Shark?
A Frostbite
Fairly awful, even by Gregoshi's standards :clown: I hope they get better as I progress.
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
One of the few times of the year I get to spend with my family, makes everything else worth it.
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I love Christmas! I enjoy having my tree and an excuse to light candles at dinner and put out some potpourri. I'm putting up my tree this weekend!
That said, I hate all the advertising, it's so tacky. I wish that malls/grocery stores/etc didn't start decorating for Christmas in October. In my area, people are INSANE during the holiday shopping season and having to deal with them in a mall puts me into a homicidal rage. :furious3: Hooray for amazon!

Christmas shopping in D.C.? Christ.....the rest of the year is bad enough, I couldn't imagine doing it every year around Christmas.
Aside, I hate when people surprise me with gifts. Mostly because I know exactly what I want, and no more or less, and I will tell you. Especially when it is something you detest rather than don't care for. This happened the other day:
I was at my friends house, and his mom (who, by the way, is a total and complete loser, and treats those around her like :daisy:, which I will provide more details on if you want) gave me 2 presents, and she said to open them at christmas. I shook 'em around, and knew they were clothes. Now, she knows how I like to dress. I dress nice, even playing Football (not Soccer), and especially when I meet people.
So I asked what kind of clothes they are, and she instantly said something about some rapper (don't know, don't care but knew he was a rapper) and that's the kind of clothes they are. Then when I politely refused them, she went into some stupid rage for no reason, asking if I wanted to "Dress like a nerd all my life" (coming from the lady who suggested her 17-year old daughter spend a weekend with her boyfriend at a beach-house, even though her daughter, being responsible, continually said she needed money and had to work. the mothers response was something along the lines of "Do you want a life, or do you want to work all the time like your father?" with the father right there).
sorry....I just needed to vent that. his mom is such a racist, ignorant, loser, idiotic, horrible-advice-giving, fat, disgusting, piece of :daisy:, who constantly spews insults at her husband, her only source of income, who just takes it. GAH!!!!
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Won't get a girlfriend for Christmas so it's pointless really. ~;)
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I bought a plane ticket for Canada, at a ridiculously expensive price, so my girlfriend and I can see eachother a last time before we break up.
So no, I don't particularly like Christmas usually, but this one will be a killer.
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
This also fits the subject. :sweatdrop:
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I'm glad the majority of orgahs aren't scrooge's :smash:

---Not only have I heard that joke a thousand times, its not even christmassy :shame: Shame on my malteasers advent calander, shame on malteasers, the chocolates good though

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
I love Christmas, but I do take issue with some parts of the holiday. One thing I particularly dislike is Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving doesn't seem to lend itself to commercialism enough to get a lot of attention from stores and whatnot, and gets too edged out by the December holiday. I won't listen to any radio stations playing Christmas music before black Friday, and I avoid stores with holiday decorations up before then. The one big exception I make is learning Christmas choral music ahead of time, as I've long been in performance choirs and the music has to be ready by the time the Christmas season arrives, so the learning must come earlier.
One thing my wife and I have considered, though, is starting a tradition of holding off on gift giving till Epiphany, since it's the day associated with the wise men's arrival and thus the original Christmas gift giving, since it'd make sense of the twelve days of Christmas, and since we'd have any lame gifts we were given available for re-gifting. What do you think?

Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Thanksgiving and Christmas have always been a 1-2 punch in my family. Two big get-togethers where everyone sits down and has a meal together, talking about all the happenings with everyone they know. Sometimes thanksgiving is a little meh and it's normally seen as your "get out of family meeting free" event, but Christmas is without a doubt the social event. If you miss Christmas you better be dieing!
Re: Do You Look Forward To Christmas?
Well I love Christmas, even more so since my 3 children came along, not only do I get presents from my family but now I get to choose my kids presents/toys too. I plan my christmas playtime way in advance.
