gallowglasses by far. ever since i sent a unit of them charging head on, across an open plain, right into a bunch of charging lancers. I didnt expect them to last long, just tie up the enemy for a while, but they completely owned them. good night gracie.
Welcome to the forums, Jags http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/wave.gif
I have to go with the original post.
Saracens have served me well. They are quick to get, and last righ through the game. The only unit I have met while playing the Egyptions that took them apart were Varangian Guards.
Maybe after I play as the Byz, them my favourite will be Varangian Guards. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
But as it is Saracens are tops for me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/gc-toff.gif
(I added that last line because I have been dying to use the 'toff' smilie)
Vikings. You only need the smallest castel & here we go. Excellent used in conjunction with Clansmen early.
Whenever I play as the Danes, I make it a point to grab Ireland, and Scotland asap. The combination of vikings, clansmen, gallowglasses, and kerns forms a cheap effective army in early.
Indeed, explosive combination. Whenever I play the Danes, I try to conquer these lands and fill my armies with these barbarians...Quote:

For cheap, large number, allied with efficiency i go for Byzantine Infantry.
For total killing power (at a price) i choose Varangian Guards.

Militia Sergeants.
Cheap, Early, Armour piercing, Fast.
More or less like a Light Swiss Halberdier (at least for Large unit size)
Deadly in VI.
