I loved that game called Wings on the Amiga...amazing.
I used to love F-19 Stealth Fighter on the Spectrum. Yeah it had wire frame grpahics and ran at 3fps but I loved flying low & stealthy, marking a course round all the Ruskie radars. If you got shot down it had a picture of you on the front cover of Pravda http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/gc-oops.gif
Before that I loved Gunship, racking up huge numbers of tank kills, promotions & medals http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif
Yeap me too......played Gunship for like, forever. F-19 as well...I loved that game man what suspense flying over the North Cape right on top of one of the most dense concentrations of SAMs anywhere in the world.....btw guys check out some new screen here....:
LOMAC screens by Apache
I've been looking into getting a flight sim recently. Any suggestions would be appreciated, also any joystick suggestion would help as well.
BTW, I run a 1.2Ghz, 256mb RAM, and a 64mb Videocard.
Well, it depends of course what you are looking for... a combat sim or civil sim?
For a civilian flight sim there is only one choice; FLight Simulator 2004
For combat sims... if you want props you should go for IL2 Forgotten Battles (+Aces expansion). If you prefer the modern day fighters best choice would be Lock On.
Be warned though, your system is gonna have a hard time running all the above mentioned games http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...icons/flat.gif
Edit: Also for a joystick... very much depends, choices range from $30 - $450...
Thanks, for the reply I'm looking for a combat flight sim with modern fighters, so I guess LOMAC is it. I guess I'll just have to set the requirments really low if I decide to buy it.
Thanks,
Billman
I suggest an x45 for lock on.
If you will be as kind as to list you current specs, I can quickly tell if you will enjoy Lomac or no.
I have recently become an IL2:FB junkie. Ah, that's the gooooood stuff...
Spitfire XI in the new patch Woo
Hmm, yeah. Lomac is the best choice then I guess... but it is also the most demanding game With your specs (btw Sjak they are in his 1st post) I think you would have to run the game at 800X600 with most (if not all) details set to minimum. And even then it is probably gonna struggle if a lot of action is going on on screen
It will run I think but at minimum settings Still looks pretty good though, even at low settings
There is a demo out BTW so you might wanna test it first
You can get it from here:

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg.../gc-juggle.gif
i liked Crimson Skies
My specs are,
1.2Ghz, 256mb RAM, and a 64mb Videocard
Does the demo require a joystick to play? and I'm not looking for a top of the line joystick, just something reliable but not to expensive, (around $40-50 dollars.)
i played red baron for years.
god im good at that game.
whoops i stalled and fell through your plane.
thanks, dessa
mercian, I would suggest another game with these specs. Lomac demands a 3 ghz, 1 gig ram, 9800 xt vid card to run properly (high settings / good fps) but to date no PC exists with suffcient hardware so lomac can run with maxed out settings...
But Apache is right, you CAN run it, but at low details and poor fps even. Go ahed and try the demo and if you like the game it doesnt matter if the ground looks good or not :) you can still fire you missiles.
but maybe you should try some other modern aircraft games?
Or get a new pc http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...-2thumbsup.gif
i download the IL-2 demo, but i can't find it, when i try to start a room, it can't find my game file, even when i told it where to look. DO i have to downlaod it again? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...cons/angry.gif
I've got a
2.16 ghz Athlon
512 mb DDR SDRAM
Currently in the market for a vid card. (probably a Radeon 9200-9600)
Once I get my vid card, could I run IL2 at a decent rate? I've been chomping at the bit for some WWII fighter action, but I just got this new pc. (As a holdover till I get my promised Alienware. Then Ph34r me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/gc-devil.gif)
Yep, it would run great I think And it would probably look pretty good as well http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
Just played the demo, no the graphics were awesome, but without a joystick I got kicked around by the computer http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/biggrin.gif
**sigh**
Flight sims...
On the Amiga:
Red Baron
Wings over Europe
Gunship
I moved on to PC's because I couldn't get Aces of the Pacific for the amiga...
I got seriously addicted to F15 Strike Eagle 3... that whole down below the RADAR sneak in stuff, infiltration/exfiltration, coupled with LAN play:
Umm... thats you flying over that river isn't it?
Yep http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/bigthumb.gif
OK... check your six... that isn't me, that you see.
Oh... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ns/gc-help.gif
AOTP
USNF '97
Longbow
F15
IL2
CFS
CFS2
LOMAC
My interest in flight sims is waning these days, my old Thrustmaster setup isn't compatible with ATX Mboards, the homemade rudder pedals don't work either... and flying dawn patrol in winter with a fan blowing cold air into my face, with blue hands on the stick, just doesn't appeal anymore.
and I am yet to discover a flightsim that grabs me like F15 strike eagle 3 did. I keep looking though...
Hey... there was an F15 Strike Eagle 3??? I must have totally missed that I did play the first two but never knew that... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...nquisitive.gif
I can run IL2 at pretty near maximum settings, and my specs are the same as yours, pretty much, with a TI4200 64Mb G-card. So if you buy one of the newer radeons, you'll be sailing.Quote:

Sorry for the double post.
Hmmm, I read how, but I forget. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...s/confused.gif
Head over to IL2sturmovik.com and ask there. Most of the guys are pretty decent and will help you out.
Personally, I never fly the P-51. The Il2 and the Spitfire are my rides. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cg...ons/smokin.gif
Thanks.Quote:
