Re: How can I beat my dad?
:balloon2: :balloon2: :balloon2: :balloon2: WOOHOO!!!!! :balloon2: :balloon2: :balloon2: :balloon2:
Whenever you beat your dad, don't forget to save the battle so you can replay your moment of glory when his friends come round ~D
Try not to commit your general to the fighting too early if possible. The sight of a general running away can often cause the rest of the army to panic. Likewise, getting your father's general to run away will demoralise his men.

Re: How can I beat my dad?
Well done lisabeanie, I bet your dad is really proud of you

New topic: How can I beat my daughter?
~D
Well done lisabeanie.

Re: How can I beat my dad?
Way to go lisabeanie. Just remember to let your dad win a battle every now and then. ~;)
-
Re: How can I beat my dad?
I've never even played this game before.
Pat, if you are reading this, you suck. :D
-
Re: I Won !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed, i find though a better way lisa is in fact to have a peasant as a gen and get him to withdraw then no panic penalty. It's ok but leaves a slight hole in your line. Mais AFAIK you have a cash handicap over your dad so hell.... give your huscarls a bit more valour from the saved money or get a better cav unit to flank ye dad and you'll be beating your dad at VI until you start playing RTW :knight:

Re: How can I beat my dad?
:help: :thinking: Dad and I are going to play another game should I change my side? I don’t know? ~:confused: :computer:
-
Re: How can I beat my dad?
change game, rome total war is better!!! ~;)
-
Re: How can I beat my dad?
imo not on an MP front mate...actually Lisabeanie, use the Scyths in RTW then smash your dad using the now working skirmish mode. If VI I reckon the old Huscarle rush will work against yer dad agin ig he's using the old Welsh Setup. Also, I may too RTW influenced with my new belief in Cav but his Welsh bandits are no match for a knightly charge... :knight:

Re: How can I beat my dad?
Congratulations on beating Dad! ~:cheers:
2 really important points have been made here: 1) after the battle look at unit cost vs how much work they are doing for you_go into the logfiles for the battle and look; 2) save replays_after the battle play it a zillion times and look at what worked and what needs improving-even better, you can look at what Dad did and what Dad did wrong ~:)
Papewaio gave you the basic "way things work"; to get better you need to play and Custom Battles work very well for practice.
Have fun! :charge:

Re: How can I beat my dad?

Re: How can I beat my dad?
AHhhhhhhhhhhh the Welsh....eek. Right errrrr lemme think. I'll just tell you some of my old Viking armies.
Mercians:
1 Noble cavalry general
4 Mounted Sergeants on 3 valour (if you can't get them on 3 valour don't bother with them)
4 Saxon huscarls (1 valour try to aim for)
4 Militia sergeants (3-4 valour)
3 archers (upgrade em if you want.......I don't bother.)
Just use the standard tactic of archers laying down covering fire while your saxons and milis run in and slay some Welshies while cavalry flank
Irish (my favourite ever ever ever faction....ever):
4 Mounted Nobles on 1 ish valour
4 Dartmen with 3 weapon upgrades or something
4 Bonnachts
4 Gallowglasses
OK this is a tiny bit more complicated. If you don't like the idea of an army that will take heavy losses before it even inflicts a single kill don't pick this one. Many people prefer to let their Bonnachts take the arrows...but I like letting the dartmen take it. Bonnachts are excellent secondary infantry in my opinion. OK here's the set up:
DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB
-----GGGGGGG-----
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
D = Dartmen
B = Bonnachts
G = Gallowglasses
N = Mounted Nobles
The reason there are -----s is because those are empty spaces because Gallows will be in 4 ranks deep formation (except the cavalry, which would work well in 2). Be sure to put your whole army in 4 ranks deep formation, with the dartmen in loose formation and hold position and the bonnachts in hold position and formation. Let your dartmen kill the Welsh Bandits some, then do a cavalry charge V his Bandits if you want to finish em off. This should make him attack. At which point you switch formation to:
NNNNNNNGGGGGGGNNNNNNNN
----BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB----
DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
The Noblemen protect the flanks of the Gallowglasses, which will give the Gallowglasses a morale boost......the Bonnachts throw pointy death over the heads of your Gallows.........Seeing as Gallowglasses are possibly the best infantry of Viking era enemy infantry shouldn't last too long. If you see your cavalry about to be attacked by enemy infantry pull back behind the Bonnachts though. Any Dartmen you have left use them to throw javelins at the enemy too.
Some problems you'll encounter with this army :dizzy2: :
1. Low morale. All the units in that army (except cavalry) start out on 0 morale I think. This means you need 3 valour on the Bonnachts and Gallowglasses at least or else they'll flee at the sight of an enemy. This army is best suited for 15k (15000) florin games because of this.
2. Gallowglasses charge without orders. Yep.......putting them on hold position and formation would be a good idea until you're ready to charge....if you want to.
3. Bonnachts are NOT anti cavalry. They look like they have spears, but the last thing you want is for them to get into a fight with cavalry. Every time I've sent them V cavalry they get slain.
Aside from those problems this army should do very well. I averaged 1000 kills with it when I played online with it.......Normal sized units ~:cool: . Just errrrr............remember to RUN in when you get within archer range or else you might not make it to those Bandits ~:eek: .
Wow I'm a motormouth. Lol it's nearly a novel is this. Anyway GL to you V your dad. First father/ child game I've actually heard of so far, despite lots of MTW and RTW players having children that are old enough to play it.

Re: How can I beat my dad?
Dad can work RTW on his laptop but we can't play multi-player. :cry:
Oh well!

Re: How can I beat my dad?
Hey Lisa , it has been a long time. While there are a lot of folks in Rome, we still have quite a few playing MTW.
Check in the lobby, I'm sure you won't be left out. :balloon2:

Re: How can I beat my dad?
What worked before will probably work again... Until you quit being mean to Dad and let him have the same amount of money that you have! Well... maybe a little more would help.
I think the experts have covered anything I can contribute. ~:)
