Nus seems to know an awful lot about the whole programme doesn't he!
Well if it is you, Nus, you should get a special Avatar created for you... I'm thinking big barbarian balls or something!

The battles are (not necessarily in the order they'll be shown):
Stamford Bridge
Hastings
Hydaspes
Teutoberger Forest
Dara
Sarmizegethusa
Cynoscephelae
Troy
Will there only be 8 episodes then? A shame if true. Still, if you are really Mr Nusbacher, on behalf of the entire forum I'd just like to say that you are, in my eyes at least, a legend and it is a privilege having you here. So can we expect new 3D Saxon, Viking and Norman units? And is the lone Berserker present on Stamford Bridge? And is Mike Loades as enthusiastic as that off the air? And finally, is Saul David really the ladies man of the series that he comes across as? ~D Thanks in advance. :medievalcheers:

Only eight shows were filmed for this series. Will there be any more? Only the Beeb could say.

Unquestionably. He also has the coolest Hittite bow ...
Apologies for any questions that go unanswered. The answers to some will be revealed in the fullness of time (i.e. by watching the show in January and February). Some questions are, I assume, rhetorical.
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
Thank you - I very much look forward to seeing these in January/February. I see you left the Saul David one well alone - probably best given the circumstances. ~D
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
Mike Loades is one heck of a character! Anyone see him on the Peasant's Revolt with Tony Robinson? Enthusiastic to his work as ever ~D . Shame he seemed to pop in and out of the TC series as I really looked forward to his after battle analysis.
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
RE: medieval/mediaeval.
As noted, the word itself is a compound of medium (middle) and aevum (age). In the actual Middle Ages people began to use an e with an accent (called a caudata, like a little comma under the e) to indicate the ae dipthong; sometimes they even left out the caudata. This has raised a debate amongst modern scholars as to whether we should transliterate this as an ae dipthong or just an e. You will often see older texts use the ae, while more recently you'll see it dropped.
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!

'scuse my ignorance but who is "the Nus man himself" supposed to be? One of the series regulars?
I can't remember the names of the military historian experts who appear every week, if that's who you meant. Care to jog my memory?
TIA
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
Who cares if time commanders is back thats good enough news for me, finally some interesting war programs on tv :P espeically great as it uses total war series interface.
Shame they dont allow clans or experienced players from our totalwar community to join, Im sure all of us could do a better job then some of them guys/girls that go on there every weak and lose horribly :D ~

He means Aryeh Nusbacher (though I am afraid I have made a total mess of the spelling. Sorry for this.) Every show there were two historians commenting on the performance of the players, and one of them always was Nusbacher. Mike Loades was the historian who appeared in the first three shows only. He was the one who threw toothpicks at Nusbacher during the replay of the Battle of Watling Street.
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
No room for Kalka or Liegnitz?? I don't believe it

Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
any news on this programme ?
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
I Googled it and came up with this page
scroll down to the bottom and there are some more conversations there. I didn't stop to read these myself but will do so, when time permits.

Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
Thanks a lot guys, but I don't see anything about the medieval battles on those pages. Have I overlooked something ?
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
Series two, week seven: Hastings
With the death of Edward the Confessor in 1066 three men claimed the throne
Series two, Week two: Stamford Bridge
The year 1066 is usually remembered for the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror, the Bayeux Tapestry and King Harold being shot in the eye. But 1066 was an eventful and significant year besides all that. It saw the death of kings, broken oaths, treachery and the defeat of the last serious Viking invasion of England.
Those dates are pretty close and give a little eye candy
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
Just did a quick search on all posts by Nus, and they are all related to TC, he seems to know an awful lot about that program in advance... ~;)
Welcome sir  I second the motion for a custom avatar.
There was also this little nugget of information

Far and away the most annoying thing about TC was the muppets they got for the generals :dizzy2:
And the link to the .com has a couple of screenies from Hastings...

Yeah, same here. I am a lot higher in English Comprehension then most of my old classmates and you will even catch me spelling things wrong or writing with more in common of a middle schooler than a high school graduate.
My point is, if the people from USA can't even read and write, don't confuse us more by making us learn your English "English".
Hell, my people can't even handle the Metric System - thats why we are still the only country in the world that uses Feet, Yards, ect.

In case you didn't know, the old-fashioned ethos of the BBC was summarised in the quote "inform, educate, entertain". This programme does all three.
I have a casual interest in history, in that any info offered up I will pay attention to, but it doesn't extend as far as setting aside time to head to the library and actually read up on stuff. This is why about half of the battles on that list are ones I have never even heard of! If my knowledge level is average then that means a fair number of people stand to gain some knowledge they didn't have before.
As for the contestants, I will say two things.
Part of the show revolves not around the battle tasks at hand but the team dynamic. Sometimes they get sound general's decisions, which then get countermanded by their lieutenants, with mixed results. Other times the subordinates demonstrate an understanding of strategy and tactics exceeding that of the gens but play ball and wait to get approval from the leader, who then says 'no, do this instead', they obey, albeit grudgingly and the team end up getting creamed. ~;)
The other thing is that by lousing up badly, viewers can see how NOT to do it and the historians can shine in their bit at the end where they show 'this is what really happened'.
If there was a decent set of players, the lesson might still be there but it won't hit home quite as hard. It also takes the wind out of the sails of the experts if the team won by basically playing out what happened historically.
Re: Time Commanders 2 to go Medieval!
Wow Excellent. Thanks everyone.
I WISH I could see STW: MI and MTW:VI with the RTW engine. Or at least I wish I could have a MTW mod for RTW. Bah humbug.
