They've still got it, but in my view they took a bit of a hit with Age of Mythology. That was useless.Quote:

Garrison a castle with fully upgraded (read: range) Longbowmen, and only trebuchets can touch it.
Naturally, they run into the problem of Huscarls and their extreme piercing armor, which is why I keep my Longbowmen covered with infantry support when I'm facing a Goth opponent.
Another fun unit to play with is the Chinese Cho Ku No. A large group can machine gun down any unit in seconds.
I was totally amazed when I tried the MTW demo. It was around a year after the game came out, before I downloaded it.
I mean, what other game have you setting up forest ambushes and the thrills of a cavalry charge...
That and the last stand of LionHeart outside Fajra?? citadel against Saladin sold me. I completely forgot about Warcraft after that.
RTW kinda lost the look and feel of a real wargame like MTW. Bugs and insane kill speeds ruined my game. Plus I hate the stupid reinforcement system. I always remember fighting endless supplies of Gold Mongol Hordes in their heartlands with limited reinforcements. Those 3-4 hour battles were so much fun lol. Never bought STW though.

I started with MTW and continued with VI. No Shogun or Rome (yet).
The only thing MTW reminds me is a simple Windows game called "World Empire". It has the very primitive seed of the strategic part of TW. No tactical stuff though; battles are autoresolved.

Agreed. Even though the game looked amazing, something was missing from the old ones. It was good, but I think that too many things were changed so that it wasn't as much fun as it could've been. It was very good as an idea, and parts of the game made me really entertained - but even though it was perfectly stable with little to no bugs (after about 3 patches) I still didn't like the new gameplay enough.Quote:
