Sorry, but this is incorrect. This image does not correspond to the Lybian Spearman unit. This unit is the Liby-Phoenician Infantry, a phalanx unit.Quote:

They are, themselves, not heavily armored, they have no shields, etc. They're actually more like a type of medium infantry really, that's intent purpose is to kill heavy infantry with their hammers. Against lighter, swifter infantry, arrows, and javelins especially, they would be at great disadvantage. Being so specialized, they also exist in small small units, more intent for a truly strategic purpose, and not so much just hurling them at light infantry and what not.
Will the AI know to build them for that purpose though? Hm.Quote:
...EB. We have units that are freakishly specialized. Suck on that vanilla. Them and their armies of chosen swordsmen, waltzing about all unopposed except by even more uber-units from other factions. No one ever using lower tier soldiers anymore. Bah, I say, fye upon it.
Good to know. That's one of the units hanging over from the old thread, I didn't bother to change it. But now I will!Quote:

(edit) I found the old screenshots thread. I dunno if EB wants a link posted though. So that allowed me to finish up the credits for the screenshots. BUT if any of them are wrong, please correct me as I want to make sure people get the proper credit. Also, as usual, any corrections of any kind are appreciated.
Here you go...dug up a few very old pics for ya
Seleucid Armoured Elephants
http://img92.exs.cx/img92/9820/jpg8.jpg
Spartiates Hoplitai
http://img22.exs.cx/img22/5373/frfrfeafefsdatgtr.jpg
There were also a few gladiators, though I´m not sure if they´re going to to be used....
i'm already jumping up and down: seleucids get argyraspidai ánd hypastistai ánd soem sort of imitation legion ( throw jav before charge)
btw those argyraspidai and spartans looks rather weird... probably not finished/ not 3d or something. neve rmind. great job eb!
ow wait, the last should of coruse be in the whorship thread. hihi ^^
Sorry. Carthaginian Armoured Elephants...Quote:

I don´t think that´s their actual names....something related with their species....maybe.
I got the Spartans already and added them in yesterday. I saw the Carthaginian (or Carthaginian, I should say ~;) ) elephants yesterday too but wasn't sure if I should add them as they are only mounts. I guess I can make a mount section (and add in that awesome WIP cataphract with the 4-horned saddle too, hmm).
Well within that reasoning you would have to put all of the mounted troops there too.....just put the African elephant in the "African" section and the other 2 under Near-Eastern.
I´m not so sure about the areas of recruitment for elephants though....I think thats still under discussion.
Well they aren't imitation legionares... they just have javilens that they throw and they can melee. Urnamma doesn't like imitation legionaries, and he can explain to you why they didn't exist. ~DQuote:

yeah, i read that, thats why I siad 'some sort of' sinc eim to stupid to rember that name... soemthing like torikatai argyraspidai... wich would mean 'spear throwing silver shield pikemen' i think.
i seems weird that seleucids would copy the coplete legionares. did any counrty ever do this? why not/do?
EDIT: country, faction, tribe, people. dunno what just: did it happen? and did they copy the training?
2e edit: woohoo, i got teh name almost right torakitai argyrapsidai.... wich i noticed: they got two javs on their shield. if they have only two then EB shoudl ahve letten them out: like with the legionares..how is this? do they ahve more javs? are they more skirmish than melee?? will the seleucids get thureophoroi?
Doesn't "thorakitai" refer to their breastplate? That's what I read.
Armour in general, not breastplates.
Amazing thread, congratulations to all the EB team!
Hi all. I have been following Europa barborum on this forum for about 3 months now. I have decided not to post until now, because i would get carried away, and have 500 posts in the first week. :bow:
But I have just read through the start of this thread, where it says the stuff about the Roman faction and the Barbarian, and it says hat there will be difinetly be 3 Roman factions and a Senate, now i'm pretty sure that EB said somewhere that there was only going to be the Brutii left, and all the other roman factions and the Senate were going to be taken out of the game. They said that they could not alter the way the senate gave orders, and so they were going to remove the senate?
I'd be happy if they keep the 3 factions and the Senate. Yes, it may not be historical but each Roman faction is strong enough anyway and the 3 in the game have fairly intuitive natural theatres of operation. And I rather like the Senate missions and the Civil War, although I am not sure how EB will cope with them.
I don't know EB's philosophy, but I would like to see it as essentially taking RTW but making it have more historical units. RTW is a fun game, if it is changed too much, there's a risk of throwing the baby out with the bath water. Trying to make a whole new game may just be too ambitious. Even if they do want to be ambitious, it may be best to do that incrementally - rather like how the MedMod for MTW evolved from minor tweaks to a major reworking. (Although I realise EB is already shaping up to be an even bigger mod that the last version of MedMod.)
We're still trying to figure out what sort of things we can do with the Romans. We are trying out different ways. The problem is, it has to be bug free and intutive as well.
@ Simon Appleton:
EB is going to be a somewhat diferent game compared to Vanilla Rome....I really do hope you give it a chance, you´ll change your mind in an instance.
In R:TR (Rome:Total Realism) They have taken the Brutii, and the Scipii out and renamed the Brutii, Romans. I currently never play the Romans, becasue the senate is still there, I wouldn't mind it if the Senate were just there, but they give missions and it is really annoying. :help:
and renamed the JULII Romans
do as i do, if you don't like the overal of EB (wich i don't i like what i've seen)Quote:

You will have a hard time with this. Since our models are all new, this isn't a matter of reskinning. Plus many animations will be new, and other things. You're welcome to try, but I suspect it will be more trouble than it is worth.Quote:

The unit limit is 500... and I'm not sure how you can "not like what you've seen" and "only take the units"... what have you seen besides units? Everything else has pretty much been conjecture at best.Quote:

and btw, there´s unit limit and there´s a model limit. The model limit is obviously lower.
Felt a little homesick.....so I reworked the briton faction symbol for you....
A present for the thread:

:bow:
Sweet, thanks dude! I was actually a little upset that it didn't match the rest, haha. Good ol' OCD for ya.
If anybody wants to drop me a line about the artist credits for the units that have question marks under them, it would appreciated muchly ~D
What would you do without me? ~;)
ok....let´s see....
The Carthie Sacred Band was made by PROMETHEUS;
All the german units are made by the same 2 guys;
Ptolemaic Hetaroi, Machimoi Cavalry, Pezhetaroi and the Ethiopians were all made by Spartan Warrior;
Ptolemaic Akontistai were made by Chemchok I believe (this one I´m not sure...);
And finally, reverse the role that the 2 guys had in making the numidian slingers....
That´s about it I think. :bow:
BTW: You should count the thread views from both TLAOKAS....the old thread has now (2300GMT) 5919 view, together with the new thread´s views, 2837, that makes a whooping 8756 views! See where I´m getting to? ~;)
Probably drool and look stupid a lot more!Quote:

PS - I am making some big changes to the screenshots to deal with the image limit issue. Still experimenting on a format though. I should have some of it done later today.
(edit) OK, I've done some of the front page, but I have to go to work now. I'll post my latest version of the new format. I'd appreciate comments. I like it this way as I won't have to worry about image limits per post here, and as we inevitably get more and more screenshots, that will become more and more of an issue. Also this way I can use the original screenshot posted by EB and I don't have to take the time to find a good pose and crop the picture to the standard size. I don't even have to upload it through Imageshack again! The tradeoff being that most of the pretty pictures will be gone from this thread and also that you have that nasty extra click to see them. So... there we go.
