Yes, l agree.
Also wouldn't be good if the site was rated on some aspects that judges shall come up with.

I cannot return l presume so l will keep my name among those who are dead by bows!

Waiting isn't a bad idea, but won't most of us be focused on playing? I think the downtime in anticipation of the realease would give quite a few a chance to upgrade their websites.
I think good arguments can be made both ways, however this most likely won't be THE one and only design contest. I'm sure we can organize more as the community grows following the MTW release.

As far as citeria goes...here are some ideas.
- Viewablity - Can the majority of browsers and bandwidth out there view your site with ease?
Content - Just how good is it?
Navigation - Can people get to where they want to go? Are your site's resource readily available?
Creativity - Unique Ideas..enough said.
Functionality - How does your site function. Is it all flatfile are can your site jump through hoops? If it is dynamic..does it work?
Management - How easy is it to update or change content on your site?
The Mile - Quantify how the site goes the extra distance for its membership or visitors.
Just some ideas...and there can be sub-awards for each criteria, although that makes it quite a large endeavor.

Haven't heard much more on this, have the judges been decided?
Just hoping for some more info...
Why don't the people who are entered into the competition vote on it - and don't let them vote for themselves.

hehe. I was thinking, since I can't handle the flash thingy *blah.. no time to go thru the learning curve*, might as well get involved as a judge.. people will start suxking up to me http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
anyway the criteria were cut and paste from some web design competition, so its isn't my work http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Now this is call IP-Reuse.
Well.. any more judges.. surely u dont expect me to be the sole judge huh?
Should Be Ronin! for judging http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey Tootee,
Flash may seem like a lot to grasp at first, but it really isn't. I know I was intimidated when I first decided to learn it. Even though I don't use it for the web really, more often for business card CD's and such, its going to show up more and more and its definately worth learning. If you still don't know if you want to take the leap, download SWISH. Its a scaled down version of Flash and what a lot of people use for flash, especially gaming site intros and such.
Here's some more info for you in case you decide to dive into it.

Thanks Honestus. I've installed MX and started on the tutorials few weeks back but didnt finish it. I found the learning too time consuming. On your advice, I have installed SWISH, and will see how easy it is to learn to use. Learning is the key word here. All I'm interested is to make a flash movie like that of Magy's, without navigation stuff.
As for the MTW Website Design Competition, probably .ORG can coordinate and organise it? I'm only interested in playing judge, not the admin work http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Hey Honestus, thanks for ya tip on SWISH. Got it, and learnt to use it to create a simple flash movie in just days. Nothing impressive, but it got me started anyway. So thanks again http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
