Sorry to be so ignorant but what does Starforce do to a pc?
A good read

It's a disgusting system.
My God! that is outrageous! I will indeed by avoiding those games which use it.
I think games piracy is bad but this seems ridiculous.
The Starforce driver is only active when you run the game. In almost 2 years of playing SH3, it has never crashed on me and I've left the game running for days at a time, and the security issue isn't a problem since I have a hardware firewall. There were some DVD drives that were not compatible with the Starforce driver, and if I had run into such a compatibility problem I would have returned the game for a refund.Quote:

No, the problems with Starforce (embedded low-level code that doesn't uninstall when you uninstall the game, compromised access control list, possible drive damage, etc. -- see the Wiki article) are there with all PC's, not just older ones. I'll bet you couldn't even run this on a Windows/Vista computer, since it should (in theory) block that kind of low-level nastiness.
If you do play SHIII, be sure to log onto their web site and download their "complete" removal tool, because uninstalling the game won't uninstall the virus. I remember I had to do that when (regretfully) dumping SHIII from my drive.
I didn't notice that in Wiki. Thanks for the info.
