I bet a RTW player would rather be playing Warhammer Ancient Battles, with a Ancient era book.
Since I'm kinda in a W40K frenzy right now, I bought W40K dawn of war. And well, it kicks ass. I'm not sure it will not get boring later, but I'm having lot of fun hammering orks with these awesome looking eldars (though I think they looked better in the previous edition).
I'm going to try out some mod such as the one with the women space marines (witch hunters or somthing like that)

..err..Sorry... sometimes i get too caught up in A Blood rage of Khorne.. I've got a World Eaters army, mostly of Berserkers, daemons, and even Karn the betrayer who i throw in every now and then when i can ~D. Used to play as a Space marine, and still have a small army of Ultramarines (who i set up and pose every now and then with my chaos guys) but "fighting for the Emperor" got old after a while. So i submitted to the Dark whims of the Blood God :leer: , and have been working to bring destruction to the vile Imperium of man ever since.
Or..As Karn says in battle... "Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn! Kill! Maim! Burn!"

I played my first game of 40k for years today, and I reallly enjoyed it. I should find other people to play against.
To play 40k in Aus it works out at about a dollar a point once you add in paints and brushes. And this if for space marines, they are one of the cheaper sets to buy... it doesn't include special characters... they are the cheapest to buy per point.
I don't really want to think about the amount of money I sunk into WFB and 40K figures...~:eek: After a while I had such a backlog of unpainted models I had to impose a moratorium, I had to paint 2 figures before I could buy 1. Kept me from getting into Wood Elves towards the end, which was probably for the better.Quote:

Anyway the game I really liked was Necromunda, it was quicker and had more character and scope for personalisation. I even enjoyed it's horribly complex and detail predecessor (called Confrontation IIRC). Loved Bloodbowl too - such a laugh!
For whoever asked, the models are now even more expensive than ever. How kids afford them I don't know.

Mordheim is essentially Necromunda with crossbows. IMO the sci-fi gangland setting of Necromunda works much better, Mordheim being just a way of shoe-horning in a similar game in for fantasy fans. Play Necro because its great fun and doesn't need a whole day! Also the roleplay and continuity elements maintain a healthy level of competition between players and generate their own stories. Oh and you only need a dozen models and a 4"x4" board as well (but lots of scenery is good).
Been looking through the GW website. Looks like they currently sell WFB, 40K, and LotR games, but have shunted their other games into a "Specialist Games" category. The cool part about this, is that you can download the rules from the web for free.

Looks like the latest rules, White Dwarf articles, FAQs, Errata, and miscellaneous stuff, all available for download. Guess they figured printing, packaging, distributing, and shelfspace for these games exceeded the cost of development. Pretty cool of them. Now if they would only do this for the full SpaceHulk rules...
Other variants of WFB and 40K are also available for download, you just need to look through those respective pages. So far I've found updated rules for WFB warbands, Lost and the Damned, and Harlequins. Maybe all this free stuff is why the figurines are getting pricier.~;)

Congratulation on the painting. I especially like the SW terminators, but I'm a bit biased when it comes to Space Wolves
Mordheim was good. Besides the initial outlay (which I split 50/50 with a friend anyway) and the paints I didn't spend anything on it.
Probably why GW don't try and sell this sort of thing anymore. Much better to make people buy armies rather than half a dozen men.
I have some of the "newer" Space Wolves Terminators (circa 1995?) with the furs and wolf-tails all over them. But I never got around to finishing the paint job on them, they are primed and base-colored, but they still need the highlighting and detail. Now that I think about it, I was supposed to paint the Space Wolves badge on the shoulder pads of these Termies. D'oh! :embarassed:Quote:

Looks okay... kind of.
Preferred the one where they boarded the tyranid ships... the one that introduced scouts with hellfire heavy bolters... in the large mission mode you had 3 lines of attack, with forward, first wave, second wave and reserves... you were supposed to use scouts to explore (they could go through twice as fast) but the Tyranids could ambush the single team in the forward postion with Warriors or others and wipe out a scout team in no time... so just to surprise my brother I used Terminators in the forward position... the look on his face when he sprung the ambush. ~D

Blimey lads - don't play blimming warhammer, play proper modelling games in proper periods, do wargaming!
Why? A fantastic setting is much easier to manage and removes all need for arguments over proper effectiveness and historically correct equipment. We do this for fun, after all.
Part of the fun is arguing about historical reality in the game and whether rules are correct. Warhammer is such a dicey, lucky, crappy game anyway.Quote:
