Flash floods sound odd for a desert environment but... they're not. They're just not very common. It does rain in deserts, and it is possible for floods to kill people there just like anywhere else. A few turns back the remnants of the ERE decided to stop trying to win back cities and bugged out of the East. They have 6 or 7 small stacks walking back around the Caspian to Constantinople.

I have Antioch, Sidon and Jerusalem under siege and will probably settle down.

There is a Vandal horde in Norther Italy that has sacked Rome at least twice, and a Frank horde milling about. I think when I settle I may send an army to horde up the Rox, Lombards and Sarmatians.

Surprisingly, my Huns have held on in Asia Minor. Even more surprising is where they have now chosen to expand. Crete, via the Royal Hunnic Navy.

I do not know whether they can build ports or not, but I'm absolutely positive that Ephesus already had one when they settled in it. Perhaps they can't build ports, but they can use them when they occupy them?

Yes that makes sense , and IIRC epheseus does have a port at the beginning of the game, so that must have been how they built their boats.

Whoever posted the Franks with a little empire, and in Britain, that's pretty cool. Does that happen often?

Just played a Hun campaign myself, and I can confirm that, although the Huns cannot build Ports, they *can* build boats if they take over a settlement which has the required facilities.
