Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
Ole Elmo even visited MTW over Christmas break and played a bit. Could not find enough VI players though so had to settle for MTW 1.1 with all the cav swipers and rush armies. Wish it was original MTW then my all-missile army would have ruled once again! :)
I also noticed none play at the 8 to 12k level we did. Most of the current games are at 99999K florin level. Too much money to make for good gameplay, but I DID enjoy myself a bit.
Had someone try to swipe me in my first game and I stopped it dead in its tracks with some well-placed Turk Heavy Infantry units and cavalry units. hehe
Unfortunately, my timeframe for playing is not good and normally when I check the lobby there is only 5 to 7 players on. SIGH
I miss the old STW/MI/MTW/VI days myself. I wish more people would try the VI game. It is obviously well balanced since it appears everyone has their own ideas of what the overpowered armies are! ;)
Yup, everybody thought the Irish faction was the weakest and nobody played them much until ole Goat and I began running over all their celtic and viking armies. :) The Mercian army could give them fits though with the militia sgts and their armor bonus.
The viking army it tough if they get an early rush on you, but they are very vulnerable to cavalry, especially when they are fatigued a bit.
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
Yes, they surely were nice times. I can still remember some of my older battles, because when you're new to the game nothing is as sweet as a nice victory. Anyways there has been a lot of nice times under my TW career, so
thanks to everyone who has contributed to the community with their presence.~
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
All the true winners I met over the years.
All the bullshite from kids and aging adults who thought they were better than us, and teaching them they are not.
The pure harmonious mechanics of MTW:VI gameplay.
Mizu vs SA CWC 2004, the best two 4v4 teams ever fielded in MTW:VI.
The TWPL win.
Best virtual experience ever.
The CWCs.

Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
Surprise: Shame you never got a chance to play the Fearful Ways 4v4 teams in STW/MI. We had two or three teams that were equally tough and had many a great battle.
BlackShip, Ryuken, Obake and myself
AmpMortog, Jst, CapeOFear (NC), and Fucyuman (Fucy)
Kocmoc, RazorStrike, Jun, and several others who passed thru on their way to forming their own clans or becoming major players within the community.
You would have loved the climate during the STW hey days. Over 100 people on most any time of day or night every single day. All playing each other for bragging rights and their spot on the ladder. Controversy everywhere, intrigue, secret alliances, infiltration of clans, Team Killing . . . .
You never knew what you were getting into when you logged on. hehe
When MTW was released Fearful Ways lost most of the original Fears to other games or they started their own clans. Fortunately, there were many new players who came during the MTW/VI days and kept the competition going, but the ones who stayed passed on their knowledge and love of teamplay. 4v4 is a special kind of game, where everyone must play their part and cover their teammates. What was nice was just because someone may have been the strongest single player (1v1), did not mean they were any good in 4v4 games. :)
Unfortunately, that is missing in RTW. I feel sorry for the new players having missed out on the fun of a vibrant MP clan community with several competitions always going on.

Those teams were excellent, and don't forget Clan RAGE who had Exe, Monsta, Fury, Sword and later Daman among others. The Wolves, started by Magyar, also fielded an excellent team of highly competitive players. Mizu wasn't at the level of any of these teams in STW days, but we did improve in the MTW/VI period. I would say the Silent Assassins are at the level of those earlier STW teams.
The participation in original STW online play steadily increased throught the period of it's one year existence which is a testament to the quality of the gameplay. You could play "competitive" games which had a rating system, although it was flawed, or you could play "friendly" games which didn't affect a player's rating. The playbalance of original STW, although not perfect, was never equalled in the later versions of the game. The game has also gone from a player being able to play 3 or 4 battles per hour in STW to about 1 battle per hour in RTW. As a result, many of the original players drifted away, and at this point I think they are all gone except for someone dropping in occasionally.
A good thing I see about the DUX mod is that it offeres a chance to recapture the earliest days of STW when most people played with pickup teams without clan affiliation. This can be fun as you get to play with a variety of people rather than in a "system" of play with the same people all the time.
I'll try to support the DUX mod, but I have to admit I'm burned out after playing Total War online for 5 years. I do other things now, and it's not easy to get up the ambition to play epecially if it's going to consume a lot of my time.
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
I am the same now Puzz. I am on to other games and have a hard time trying to set aside a couple hours to play MTW/VI online.
Some other really good STW clans were the Chain Clan, the Chaos Clan, The Tiger Clan, and as Puzz said the old Rage Clan. If the Silent Assassins are in the same league as those old STW clans mentioned then they are indeed at the top of their game.

Glad to hear that, be sure to give Buu your msn mail cause most DUX battles are prearranged, no one likes waiting :sweatdrop:
Hmm Surprise any way of geting those replays??

Well, we can contact Yuuki anytime, that's not a problem, but I think it's quite obvious, and I agree with him, that being dedicated to online gaming constantly for years does wear on you, and even though sometimes it appears worth it due to memories and all, better keep a distance and take a break, before going in for the occasional game.
But we do appreciate your support and I'm sure we'll have a couple of good, relaxed games at some point.
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
Well yeah i agree, but i dont want forcing him to play every night (we have you for that :laugh4: ), but anyway think it would be great idea if we decide on one night/day in week on which old players would come back in numbers, to honour good old times:bow:

Indeed it is a shame. Sadly, I never participated in STW.
I really wish MTW:VI would get back on its feet. I have nothing more to personally gain from VI, but I think it is the greatest game its kind of made in terms of balance, gameplay, and team warfare.
The problem has always been the lack of acceptance of new players, who are bad at the game. This ultimately hurts the fanbase of the game, but it is upsetting for many players to play with people who do not have any concept of how the game works mechanically and strategically. I, myself find new players difficult to deal with.

I would really love to reflect upon that period by watching replays of Mizu vs SA in the Winter CWC, but I personally don't know anyone who has them.
Maybe some of the forum dwellers here can offer assistance.
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
I always liked the VI era MP games. That was all I hosted when I played regularly, but it is very hard to get people involved in it nowadays. They were even reluctant to play viking era MP games when I was hosting, but I showed them it was actually better balanced than regular MTW. There was not any overpowering factions. The only thing I wish they had changed was to make spearmen a little more powerful when in Hold/Hold. As they were, they were not very good at stopping cav or fighting against axe/sword units. Goat and I were pretty tough when we were both the Irish army and set up next to each other. With the Bonnachts and their 100-man units, you could rout an enemy army fairly easy with the Outnumbered Morale Penalty and the Being Shot At By MIssile Morale penalty, plus a nice flank with one of your horse units. :) Celtic Warrior armies would crumble quickly vs. the Bonnachts, Mercians did well if they purchased Militia Sgts. to counter the Bonnachts, and Viking could do well if they were not fatigued and they could keep the Irish horses off their flanks.
Ahh! The good ole days! :)
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
I was talking about MTW:VI in the MTW eras, but your post may have nothing to do with mine :2thumbsup:
I personally think the Viking era is weak :skull:
But it is fun occasionally for some funny games.
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
w00t!!!
my opinion, and i'm no number cruncher or stat savy analyst is... viking era was a little more striaght forward... not sooo many types of units to choose from compared to early late and high. there was a better working rps, more akin to the shogun, cause the units were more or less similar. light horse, heavy horse, arrows, swords/axeman and spears. spears actually did a decent job in vi compared to their conterparts in mtw after the patch.
plus a rabble of six or seven hundred bonnachts per army and elmo swiging his shine and passing the jug to goat as we routed or rolled up a hill was/is a sight to behold !
:balloon2:
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
VI was probably as close to the feel and gameplay of STW and it has gotten. Horses are not overpowering, and each army has a chance of winning vs. the others. Lots over maneuvering for the high ground and maneuvering of your vulnerable archer units to keep them safe from harm. In MTW/VI regular MTW eras, you ran into the same armies all the time, especially after the last patch. Pre-patch you had a bigger variety of successful armies, but when they nerfed spears and decreased the cost of the cav units it unbalanced the entire era. Players were forced to bring certain types of armies to have any chance of winning, whereas in VI Viking Era any army had a chance of winning if you used it the way it was supposed to be used. Regular MTW had a lot more units, but most of them were throwaways and never used in MP. VI had few units, but you could find a use for them in any army type.
To me Viking Era was the more challenging.
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
Good old VI community. I miss it. :(

Those were the best games ever! :2thumbsup:

Yah same with me. Just came back and can't find people on VI, and all the MTW games are like insane amounts of money.
Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
Best 4 vs 4 team I know was FF Almircar, FF Manticore, FF Alien and humbly enough myself
I dont think we ever lost a tournament game and I cant remember loosing "normal" game either when playing with this team.
Both TW and Celtibero had really strong 4 on 4 also.

Re: CUNHAOOOOOOO - the good ol times
Hello Alrowan
RTW is not for kids - it's just completely different game.
But was is good too. Do you remember cav rushes in 3 vs 3 or mountain climbing with Troy. This is best thing I remember in vi. High hill , 4 vs 4 , Troy in your team - you attack. And this feeling that your opponents are already dead :P
