Sweden is a pleasant country, but the prices are way too high for my liking, same with Denmark and Norway. Life is just too expensive over there, in my experience people are barely managing.

It is expensive, but wages are comparable. We are more than managing. The growth of personal spending has soared the last 15 years. Every christmas it is another shock as to how much is spent. Even the 'poor' have internet, cellphones and often a car.
That is hardly 'barely managing'. And last year the government 'discovered' a surplus on the budget of just above 10%... That is a great deal!

I have family in Denmark, I visit your country quite a lot. The wages are about the same as here in Holland, IT-business being somewhat better. Almost every family in Denmark has both parents working, and that is not progressive but a necesity. The houses are pretty cheap though, lots of space, but oh boy the groceries, and going to restaurants (which I like to do at least twice a week) is madness. 40 euro for a plain pizza yay :laugh4: But having said that, Kopenhagen is great just for having Tivoli, awesome place.

Potverdekke! It's great to be a Belgian,
I'm not English, I'm not French and I'm not Dutch,
I'm not Spanish, Portuguese or German
I'm a Belgian so thank you very much!
As I walk along the street, with my mayonnaise and frites,
You can tell I'm as happy as can be.
With my Duvel in my hand then you must understand,
I'm a Belgian so nothing worries me!
Potverdekke! It's great to be a Belgian,
I'm not English, I'm not French and I'm not Dutch,
'm not Irish, Italian or Danish
I'm a Belgian so thank you very much!
Without the Belgians there would be no saxophone,
No Tintin, Captain Haddock or Poirot.
And you'll excuse me if I've missed anybody off the list,
These are the only Belgians that I know!
Potverdekke! It's great to be a Belgian,
I'm not English, I'm not French and I'm not Dutch,
I'm not Finnish, Austrian or Swedish
I'm a Belgian so thank you very much
Now the English egg and bacon's not so bad,
Especially since all their cows went mad.
But if they've never tasted mussels, on the Grand Place
down in Brussels,
It's no wonder they re feeling very sad!

I'm a Belgian, I'm not Irish, I'm not Greek,
I don't drink Guinness or Retsina, I drink Kriek!
On the Schelde or the Meuse, you find me drinking Geuze,
Or Leffe, or Chimay, or Lambic!
Potverdekke! It's great to be a Belgian,
I'm not English, I'm not French and I'm not Dutch,
And me, I'm not a Luxemburger
I'm a Belgian so thank you very much!
Ohw yeah almost forgot to say, I voted Belgium...

Sweden is probably the best country in the world, objectively.

Actually, yes. I don't want to run your country down, but the people in Amersterdam, at various levels, weren't particularly friendly, and that's a serious understatement.

40 Euro??? Where do you go? I hardly ever pay more than 5.5 euro for a plain pizza, most often cheaper. 40 euros for a single person is considered an expensive night out, and I tell you that you can get fod and drinks for less than that in the vast majority of restaurents in Copenhagen. Maybe you shouldn't be going to D'angleterre or some other posh place...
Houses are not cheap... Apartments in Copenhagen have just been announced to some of the most expensive in Europe. Of course it is cheaper in Jutland or in the country but it is like that everywhere.
A lot of room? Hah! I think the apartment I share with my GF is nice, but it certainly not big. 57 square meters.
We do all work, but not because we absolutely have to, not everybody. But we are inticed to do so, but it i like this in most of Europe now. We (as in both parents) get a year off from the job to take care of the newborn child, and most often you can get it extended.
Groceries are expensive, that is true, but at least they are more expensive in Swden and Norway.~ ~;)

I don't mind London, and don't have anything against the South in general.. but it's that attitude (even though you're joking) that really gets up my arse. Everywhere in the UK outside of the South East is basically a bunch of hilly fields populated by neanderthals. The problem is that isn't acctually an uncommon view.. every time I go down there and someone hears my accent I get the same bullshit. At least I'm not Welsh.. poor sods. Not that I'm fit to complain though, I can often be just as biggotted and I know I'm not alone in that.

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
wait people dont like the welsh?
-
Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
Unfortunately not. I wouldn't call it hatred, but people here aren't exactly friendly towards them. It's just coded into the English psyche from a young age, it would seem. The Welsh interfere with sheep - end of story. I'm a 3rd Welsh, myself, so I'm not about to agree.

40 euro's!? To me 10 euro's is already expensive! Hell before the euro paying for a pizza was usually between 8-15 gulden (guilders). Also, I still find going out to a restaurant expensive. I'll settle for the occasional visit. So if it's really that expensive in Denmark..yikes..!

Ofcourse I understand. I myself even experience very asocial behaviour there compared to where I'm from. One of the reasons I'd rather never live in a big city. I was just curious, because I've never heard of that before.

I actually don't agree with my own vote, but you know...Motherland & all that..

well thats a load of crap, :laugh4: ,the only thing that costs Alot here is alcohol... wich is a good thing anyway. :2thumbsup:
People should know that those who are "poor" here arent living in total missery and despair. (ofcourse, therer are those who do that, but its a very small % of the population).
I lived poor a few years on my own, had broadband, cable tv. :jumping:

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
its gotta be the UK for so many reasons
look at it on a map its bloddy tiny, France, Spain, Germany are all loads bigger but non of their empires were ever as big and powerful as the British Empire.
Hitler thought that he could capture england, he had most of europe but we stopped him, this tiny isle!
in the georgan period at one time we were at war with every country in europe except portugal (and they didn't like us much either)
In the 100 years war, we took huge areas in france
and we have only a few hundred thousand less people then france! (and about 20 million more then spain!)

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
Hmm... I haven`t been that far, and my own country isn`t a member of the EU. I think I should say Denmark; it`s just a completely flat country. :inquisitive:

Please take look at my post in response to Frag. Why you would take the comment of a foreigner over a local I don't know...:dizzy2:

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
Hmm I have been to most West European countries, but no longer than say 2 - 3 weeks.
So having to make a choice with such lack of experience / knowledge on the countries I;m considering is hard...
So I'm going to have to vote for my own country being Holland.
With England a close second.
:balloon2:

While my duty was to vote for my home country, I decided to vote the country in which I would like to live in the most. My vote goes to Austria

A random clutter of Welshfolk throughout my family tree brings it to about a third, though that isn't exact. Clever you though.

Gotta love that nationalism. :2thumbsup:

Re: Which is the best Country in EU?
you've spelt cyprus wrong.... but i voted the UK mainly because i live there so it is kinda cheating... i would have voted spain since i love the spanish weather, food, people and generally spain
