AFAIK (newspaper this morning, I'm no bible buff) revelation 13 verse 18 talks about the number of the beast. It says that the number of the beast is the number of a human namely 666.
The intriging part about this is that Hebrew uses numbers as letters, so 666 could also be a name, the name of the antichrist who apparently has a human form. (I don't know for sure, but I thought that the Hebrew written language doesn't use vowels, so the name could be longer than just 3 identical letters).

The New King James uses the word calculate instead of count. In other words, it will not be that simple to figure out. In reference to 17, and buying and selling, take a look at the image below. The number 6 is represented in the barcode as two thin lines close together. Now look at the three 6's at the beginning, middle, and end. 666 -

Apparently (according to a programme I saw on National Geographic), if you use Hebrew numerology, the letters in "Nero Caesar" add up to 666, and it is he they were refering to in the bible when talking about the anti-christ... I don't know about the validity of that, but he was jolly horrid to Christians, and taking into account when the gospels were written, it would seem possible that early Christians would consider him the anti-christ.
