Re: cavalry, abuse or use
Nice battle report, gaijinalways. I was especially interested to see you do so well with cavalry on a hilly map, as I'm usually not as successful in those situations (I myself generally prefer infantry when attacking on "bumpy" terrain). Aside from your general's RK's, what did your cavalry consist of?
Re: cavalry, abuse or use
truly a bold strike, gaijinalways. congratulations! when I'm outnumbered like that, I usually unfold little offensive action even if I'm the attacker -- the enemy goes after me, and quicker than I can set up for a strike myself. they're just too eager to sacrifice their lives in an assault on my improvised defensive formation.... :balloon2: this setting is quite common in PMTW when playing with the Poles. You have high quality troops which are usually badly outnumbered, especially in the beginning and especially against the Russians who are likely to be your first enemy. honestly, I almost forgot how to stage a decent attack myself while playing this campaign :juggle2:
Re: cavalry, abuse or use
My general RK, 3 HAs, 3 Alan mercenarys, 1 xbow, and 1 hobilar cav unit. They all played a hand with the xbow unit losing a few, and 1 alan mercenary group routing and then recovering.
In the meantime, only one peasant unit and one Muhawid soldiers unit(I think, some unit 60 in number with limited missile ability) routed, with both taking heavy losses while the AI didn't give up, even with the general taking a beating and routing! Luckily this allowed an Alan Mercenary and a hobilar unit to come on with good timing, finally routing the tired AI HA unit.
The biggest problem with the hilly terrain, was the cav unts got quickly tired when they had to run up hill constantly, though most of them made a good show of it, even when they had to attack archers with UMS, Italian infantry, and spearmen in close proximity, before the other units arrived.
