Re: When will you buy MTW2?
Most of the people whose opinion I value don't seem to be eager on buying M2:TW, so it might take a while before I buy it myself. But I'll be looking closely at the demo for a few things and if they are present then I won't even wait for the veteran reviews.
Edit: but of course I do hope that it's good enough to make me buy it!

Make sure the price does not drop after you pre-order. This is what happened with RTW and even though Amazon then advertised the lower price, my copy was sent to me at the original.....eight quid more than I could buy it on release day. My pre-ordered copy arrived days later and I then had the hassle of returning it with the found it cheaper elsewhere reason. There should be no problem buying it on release day, it will be everywhere

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I already pre ordered it, bud i am scart that if the game is out it will be worth to multi ply it maybe there should be some small mods for it maybe even a patch that u can ply the game multi ply all the wy and from the screen sots i see that u still command 20 army's maybe the game will look better but u cannot command more troops i am scart of.and i like the roman empire tim more then medieval and from wat i seen is that u can have pistols and cannons it is not mi game type .This time I admit I will be waiting quite some time to find out if the game is worth plying it :dizzy2:

Re: When will you buy MTW2?

That pretty much sums it up for me as well, Duke John. I very much want Medieval 2 to be a good game, but I have absolutely no intention of buying it until I've read the reviews/opinions of Org (and a few .COM) members whose views I respect. The problem, however, is of course that most of *those* people aren't any more eager to waste plunk down $50.00 for the game than we are.... ~

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
50 gran for MTWII? Lol. :laugh4:
I usually buy TW games for 1.300.000-1.400.000 which is about 29 euros.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I'm probably going to wait and see. I need to build a new computer, and RL will be pwning my life for the next few months at least, so I don't really have much choice anyway. At least I'll know what to expect when I'm ready to buy it. Until then, VI campaigns for me. :2thumbsup:

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
Another wait and seer over here, although after the first comments or two I've probably gotten to the point where I just need to see for myself. So in the end I'll probably cave in and buy it, even if the board completely devastates the game :sweatdrop:
:balloon2:

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
Probably as soon as it comes out, unless the system requirements are too high for my humble pc...

Here in Belgium you also pay 50/45 euros for a computer game.

Well yes it's somewhere around 30 Euro in Romania... but that's 3 to 6 months after release.
And yes I'm going to buy it as soon as I get it, regardless of it's inevitable flaws or bugs. I'm pretty sure MTW II it's going to be, all in all, a good game - and just a game, by the way, so I don't see any need to get nervous about it.

Totally right dude;)
But you can't get a computer game in Belgium for 30 euros after 3 months of release :juggle2:

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
Pre-ordered already. Don't know if I have time to go and look around in November for cheaper options.
I don't really care if it's perfect or not. Rome wasn't either and I got some good hours out of it (definitely my money's worth). It will probably be similar with M2TW but then I am hoping especially for a better multiplayer! Didn't like Rome's and after the initial try I never went on it again.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
After getting burnt with Rome by buying it at full price the day it was released I am taking a comfortable position on the proverbial fence with respect to MTW2. Like many TW fans I naturally assumed Rome would not only be much better looking than Medieval but also deeper and more challenging. I was completely suckered in by Rome's pre-release hype and was incredibly ticked off when i realized that for all its revolutionary advances it lacked the same depth as Medieval and was not nearly as challenging. It wasn't until the Rome Total Realism mod had matured to the point where it had a profound impact on gameplay that I bothered to give Rome another chance. Tragically even the best Rome mods (i.e. RTR and Darth's AI formations) can only do so much to improve gameplay and improve the AI.
People need to realize that from a business standpoint CA does not need to address any of the complaints leveled against Rome by the the TW community. Rome was a massive success for CA and proved that the satisfaction or dissatisfaction expressed by the core TW community is no longer linked to the success of the TW franchise. I find it incredulous that CA stands firmly by its newfound lowest common denominator approach when more complex and challenging empire building strategy games like Civilization IV routinely outsell the TW series by a handsome margin.
But hey, I desperately hope CA proves me wrong and MTW2 makes good on the mistakes made with Rome. But in light of recent events can anyone blame some of us for taking a pessimistic stance?
Basically I'm taking a 'wait and see approach' coupled with a 'wait for decent mods' stance.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I will buy it when these things happen at the same time.
1. I have enough extra money to cover it, as well as food, rent, and medical.
2. I am at the store buying something business related (for the travel expense).
3. I see a good review or three online.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
This is the first TW game with which I'll wait to see what the community says before I buy it. RTW left a really bad taste in my mouth.
We'll see what the demo is like. RTW's demo was just like the game.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I will get it as soon as it appears in the shops. Someone in a previous post said the 25th so if I go down and no one has it I will be annoyed.
-
Re: When will you buy MTW2?
The day it comes out. I am hoping that it combines what I liked from the original MTW with the advances from RTW. I may be disappointed, but even if it is not perfect I expect it will be great.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I honestly this is my first time on these boards since last winter. And to my surprise I come back to see there is a MTW 2 coming out. Since MTW was my fav, i will most definitly pre order MTW 2. I can't wait.
-
Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I'll probably wait to hear what the TW community has to say about the game. That is, after the usual wave of fanboys have stopped spamming the boards with ecstatic praise for the game and vehemently attacking anyone who dares to disagree.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
When i will buy it ? When I see it in the shop :laugh4:

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I will purchase it for my Christmas present (my wife would never purchase me a game that will occupy my free time). Wrap it and set it under the tree. The hard part will be not opening it till Christmas. :help:

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
i suppose i will eventually cave in. in addition to good reasoning in the above posts for waiting for reviews from the boards (not magazines, they raved about rome), my computer really choked up on big battles in barbarian invasion. it had an especially hard time with fire arrows.
since i have read it will have bigger polygon counts i suppose it is time to think new computer. i am stuck though because of vista operating system. i can only afford a new computer every 8 yrs or so. so i will wait and see.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
In for a penny, in for a pound.
I'll by it the first day it hits the stores. I never pre-order, got my connections in the gaming world.. ~;) Got all other TW titles and expansions, will get this one as well. Gives a better feel than Rome, which is odd since we were all looking through happy-bunny glasses when we were daydreaming about Rome and its nearing release... Am I in for another bad surprise? :juggle2:

Bad surprise?Who says the game can't be good? :laugh4:

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
Interesting results of this poll so far, thanks to everyone for voting.
Just over half of us will have MTW2 as soon as it come out - would never have guessed it would be that high.
Just over a quarter of us are adopting a wait and see approach
Only one person refuses to buy it outright.
And the rest of us will probly get it at some point, just not yet.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
I retain some cautious optimism for the game, so I won't absolutely rule out buying it. But I've spent more time playng STW and MTW in the last two years than RTW. In fact, a lot more time. There is some cause for optimism though: BI was an incremental improvement on RTW, or so I'm told (bought it but could never face actually playing it) and they've had another year to fiddle with things. I will probably wait and see what others around this forum think to determine if and when I buy it. I plan to completely ignore the professional reviews, whether they are good or bad.

Re: When will you buy MTW2?
Since 2000, I've been an early-adopter, but after Rome's disappointment, I'll be a 2nd-wave buyer this time. If frogbeastegg blesses it with 3-out-of-5 stars or better, AND Voigtkampf does NOT go on a berserker rampage against it :laugh4: , AND the devs respond promptly to the inevitable flaws found, I'll pay the $50, about a month after release.
If any of those 3 conditions aren't met, I'll wait until the price drops to $25, or skip it altogether if you lot totally pan it.
