I bought BI solely for this mod.. it had better be worth it, or you owe me £20!
The mod, for the curious, as Agraes mentioned, is going to be getting at least two big updates. For the interested in Gaels (what I work on), the Deisi/Foederati system is bigger than glossed by Agraes. It'll also include Gaelic factions being able to develop Deisi (Deisi are Gaelic vassals, they were poorer equipped and used mainly as shocktroops), Pictish colonies (for Dal Riada and the Ui Neill at least; they both allowed settlement of Pictish tribes and didn't enforce the 'culture' laws on them, in exchange for military service), and British vassal tribes (it's how Gaels mainly got actual archers for quite a time, as archery for Gaels was not considered a valiant profession, so their own archers were very poor quality and in short suppliy). Everyone will have things of this sort.
There's been some talk of 'regional' units being tied to certain resources (plentiful weapons and horses). There will be some unit retouches, and new units, like new pagan Gaels, for those who want to play a Gaelic faction as pagan, they'll get some new, decent units in exchange for not getting the really good Christian structures and their dependent structures; even maybe the ability to ressurect the Fennians, which did actually exist, though myth exaggerated them a lot; if they do make it in, they'll still be pretty tough.
Celtic Christianity won't be the 'Celtic Church' (an early rite of Christianity that eventually united with the Roman rite), it's actually more representative of the confusing mixture of Celtic pagan religion and Christianity that was prevelant in Ireland and parts of Britain at the time, and remains to an extent in modern, more orthodox Christianity, particularly from the region; the 'Celtic Church' would have members of both this concept of Christianity and more orthodox Christians, so having disparate church rites seemed a bit more confusing. It was not unusual for such demi-Christians to believe in the Christian God and still believe in many other deities (which they then viewed as subservient to the main deity). It'll have its own ancilliaries and objects, buildings, and maybe a unit or two (though it may also, early on, have a few pagan units available, representing the residual pagan influences, and later have Christian units), and be unique in its own ways. The hope is to present a middle road for people and better represent the complexity of religious life in the era, as it wasn't necessarily 'Christians vs. Pagans', many found what they believed to be a kind of middle-road (though neither genuine pagans nor orthodox Christians were usually too cheery about it, particularly Gaelic pagans who believed in a very strict orthodoxy related to the old druidic body and viewed them as no different than orthodox Christians, of whom most of them had little love for; we're hoping 'Roman' Christians can be made to be a bit less apprehensive toward them though, as there was among the orthodox Christians more a desire to 'educate' than to kill or enslave them).
In its current build, the game is still quite enjoyable, we're working out some mechanics still (incidentally, Agraes, I show up on the boards there under Ranika, I'm still kicking about there and I post under his name). I really think anyone who has even a passing interest in the period and area will find it enjoyable. Depending on where and who you play as, the game can play out entirely different, and it's quite immersive I like to think. Though I hate to be cluttering up EB's board with this, but, still, it's a good mod, and I think a lot of folks who enjoy EB would enjoy it.
Oh baby, is it ever an enjoyable mod. I don't think it's cluttering up the boards, just a single thread and it's all good. Man oh man, I'm having the campaign of my life as Arthur's faction (still don't know the names :embarassed: ). I just beat back the treacherous Gwent invaders and took a few of their cities and towns to boot, moving in for more. The Eotenas have also been pushed away, and my Angle allies have declared war on them, taking the pressure off my east. Now I have the most powerful army in the land and am planning on using it with a vengeance.
It was a tough couple of years back there though, constantly under siege, undermanned, but Arthur prevailed and is now on the offensive with his refomed army. Oh man, so good, such epic battles. In the woods, in the hills, on the shores, in the cities :2thumbsup: . Never has Arthur lost a single battle, nor his subordinates protecting the cities.
However, I gotta say, I've taken all the family member I can out of the cities and settled them in the surrounding areas, as they were making me lose too much money. With them not governing, I make a few thousand more. Perhaps some management trait tweaking might fix that in the future and just more final touches. The things you guys mentioned about the newly released patch and upcoming plans are absolutely awesome, I can't wait.
Having trouble getting it to work at the moment.. but I shall persevere! :charge:
Well I downloaded it and gave it a try.
I think it lacks a real sense of immersion. I think more traits would be brilliant.
I found the battles too short and easy to be honest (Playing VH/VH).
Though playing as the people who start on mainland Europe, the Rebels bribed two of my settlements.... GRRR...
