The classic example of people using their celebrity to support a cause would be Audrey Hepburn's work for UNICEF.
Crickey wasn't there a topic recently about some bloke whose shorts were always too small using his celebrity status to champion his favourite cause .

What would your life be like without them ?
Re: Celebrities can, but should they?
No because Celebrities can cause people to vote away from their true opinions. If Tom Cruise was to say "In the next election I am going to vote for Y" then some of his more fanatical fans that idolise him would vote for Y because they believe that he is perfect and to be like him you must vote for who he votes for and believe in what believes in. A celebrity should just do what made them famous.
Re: Celebrities can, but should they?
It depends on what cause they are advocating, if they are supporting say, charities etc. then definately, :2thumbsup:

Ok, perhaps they should be able to, but only for good causes such as charities and they should not be able to publicly show their support for anything else.

I agree. You can't force them to shut up, neither can they force you to listen. You can always switch off the television/radio.
So I voted GAH...
