It's not all hate for the RTS genre though, it's just that Relic has utterly spoiled me with their excellent RTS offerings. I can't get enough of DoW:DC and CoH in skirmish mode.
Oh yes, yes indeed. I know exactly what you mean :yes:Quote:

Im asking because there is "comma" ----------> , between something windows (which I think I have) and vista (which I deffantly dont have)
No, the demo works in XP, you could try upgrading your DirectX(that means just install the newest from the Microsoft homepage).
Whats the latest one? Because All I did was google DirectX click on the first link, and downloaded 9.0c and it supcom still dont work
Its really sad how every major RTS developer has Dune2 stuck in their brain...
If only CA makes a WW2-onwards game...that is our only hope... ~
Why do anyhting but tweak a winning formula?
Minimum Spec for SupCom are Xp with DirectX 9.0c
Recommended is Vista with DirectX 10. Not upgrading to Vista just so i can play this one game! Not until i buy my own computer :bounce:
Same. I loved DoW and now having great fun playing coh.Quote:

Back to playing IMO.
I'm running windows XP, a 7800GTX and an Athlon 64 4400+ - there can be a bit of slowdown but it's very playable.
No major lag? Nice. When i heard recommend specs included vista, it put me off paying $100 for it.
Maybe when the price comes down.
I got this last night because I enjoyed Total Annihilation enormously (and because my son badgered me incessantly). The sound effects are terrific and the shields look awesome. TA was a favorite RTS of mine and this rendition looks pretty good. I’m anxious to see what new units folks will come up with. The modding community for TA did outstanding work and kept the game fresh for years.
The build tutorial was funny. “Click on a factory. Click a unit picture to build 1 unit. Hold cntl and click a picture to build 5 units. Hold alt and click a picture to build 500!” .
I have to say i am dissapointed with this.
May have to tweak some stuff to get it better. But for now, a
Is there any way to get rid of the giant UI ?
I believe there is a patch out that includes a minimal UI option.
I cant get it to patch properly though.
Who names their first patch 3217? then 3218 and 3220. Confusing. Plus each one is increminental. From others that you cant download??
Take back my previous comment, its addictive now, but BF2142 is more addictive.

I think that's the non-incremental version of the latest patch.
So if you have no patch at all, that should work.
Thanks Husar.
Get the latest patch, then hit alt + up (the directional arrow) until you get to the minimal UI that looks a bit like this.Quote:

Incidentally that's how to shut down an Aeon battleship with an upgraded SCU - put it *inside* your shield - they block shots both ways :/
Hmm, in the demo and the beta(don't have the game yet) shields would let units and base defenses shoot from the inside out. Is that different in the full version or does it apply only to certain shield types or is it a bug?Quote:

It lets friendly fire both ways, blocks enemy both ways. It was just a stupid little scenario that I had for a moment that I thought was funny. Those two battleships were doing bad things to my fleet and I had no subs to spare (neither did they) so I contained them both within my SCU shield bubbles and then shelled them until they sunk :p.
That's really quite a smart idea.
Now all the game needs (and bear in mind that i don't have it yet) is a cloakable, mobile shield genarator and you could have a lot of fun.
Ok so Im going to bump this because I dont want to start a new thread.
I just won this game in a contest. Anyone play it?
Uh, yeah. Probably should have mentioned I got the second one. Not the first.
Oh well. At least it was free.
Well, at least it was free, right?
I didn't quite like this game. I found the units weren't unique enough. I'm not talking about the experimentals, but the normal units. I also found that either the AI is too hard(normal) or too soft(easy)
:daisy: it.
Can barely play the game. It lags way too much even though I meet the recommended requirements. The only fix I found was one that doesnt apply to Win7 (lowering sound acceleration to basic).
The game is unplayable with this lag and I cant find a good fix. Ive tried everything that I can think of: admin mode, running in Win XP mode, MSI afterburner, lowering the graphics, and nothing works.
I picked up SC2 in a bargain bin once, largely because I enjoyed the first one so much. I hated it; the gameplay mechanics are dumbed down enormously and the graphics actually look worse, because the units look like cartoons. I played it for a few hours before shelving it and reinstalling the original (and Forged Alliance)
The original SC, and FA, is simply the best RTS I've ever played. I still play it occasionally on skirmish, with modded AI's that are pretty hard to beat.
