I actually didn't drink too much in that area... I won't be very useful.
The Marlborough Arms had more beers than most but was busy.
Otherwise, my best luck was around St. James's and allys around Picadilly Circus. I don't really remember the names though...:barrel:
The Bishop's Finger is a name that I remember, I was looking for good Spitfire outside of Parliament; it's pretty close to Farringdon and was pretty good.

That said I am Aussie, so a lot of those questions I had no idea baout, but then there were questions like the "loo" being called a "toilet" that everyone down here does, so I suppose it makes up for it.

Not necessarily. There are several versions of it's origin, that one being the least plausible IMHO. The most plausible is that it is derived from the Gypsy word "chavo", which means "kid", "boy", "lad" or "youth". The word "chavo" is also used throughout latin america and has much the same significance. The word has obviously come into the mainstream indirectly through the travelling community.Quote:
