They way I understood him was that he wanted to always support her and not leave her alone because of what happened to her(I think it happens in relationships where a partner cannot deal with whatever disability the other partner has).
And any outrage would not get her limbs back anyway, they just want to know how she got infected and I personally think it's her right to know that.
You don't get imprisoned without knowing the reason either.

Bad news , however she will get there eventually , she was relatively lucky that one amputation is below elbow , which makes a big difference .
