Anyone else notice that more experience my units get, the less damage they seem to do and more they seem to die? ~
ah nope, the exp they get the more damage they do, although the enemy targets them first so they die easy if you send them alone or poorly supported but with a lot of rookies around them they do tons of damage , just let the vetran damage em to death and let the rookie finish them off.Quote:

Downloaded it yesterday. Fun it is.
That's it, if the rookies are supported by a Captain (Elvish, Desert or otherwise) they do 25% more damage at any time of the day, and this really works out. Cap'n smacks 16 points off the orc, rookie No 1 scores another 6 and rookie No 2 makes the kill and gets the XP. Repeat dose until another Captain (or Hero) is born.Quote:

I agree, frustrating when none of your blokes manages to hit that huge ugly enemy. But on the other hand it is fun when that happens to the enemy.
Ugh, I'm officially addicted, I arrived late at a party last night because I wanted to play 'one more turn' and actually got out of bed early today so I could finish my mission (4th one of the southern watch campaign, playing it on easy (second difficulty setting)).
Does anybody else just role play this game way too much ? In the first two mission I was particulary keen to let the farmers make the first frontal assault so I could protect the 'real' troops, and in the third mission

I fear I'm in a bit in trouble though

At least I'm starting to master some of the basics of the game like the day/night cycle and use of terrain. I'll need it if the missions get much harder (like most posters here say).
My life has been taken over. I'm playing two ad-ons alternately. One is a desert adventure on expert level (the legend said something like "Impossible"). The first two scenarios were a piece of cake which gave me false confidence. Well, the scenario I'm playing now (searching for a hidden tower in a troll-infested forest) is impossible indeed.Quote:

Luckily it was buggy enough so I could finish it after all :furious3:

I'm addicted. Damn you Org!
Actually, this is a pretty nice game overall, especially as it's open source. The "comprehensive" campaign (Heir to the Throne or something) is quite amusing in that it keeps giving me LotR flashbacks.
Two things that totally annoy me though:
-movement. It's damn slow, especially in caves and snow!!!
-hitting chance. It's lower than what I'm used to (aka Disciples II rate). For some reason I always feel like the AI get the better of me. It's like, while AI forts and castles always seem so hard to besiege, defending my own is a ridiculous nightmare. They just walked over me singing.Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Yes, although I feel this only gets annoying because of bad design . (very small Southern Guard spoiler)Quote:

Man, this is an awesome game. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go fight my way across a river and restore the true King to the Throne!
Pfft, white mages schmite mages. You just need some Paladins (level 3 upgrade of knight, Holy damage against undead.)Quote:
I just won the Elensefar battle (in Hero Mode, which is Medium) without a Wite Mage!
So True.Quote:
Every time, the hardest part for me is the levelling up of my leading character. Whether he be Deoran, Konrad or someone else. They have such fragile health that you have to bring them in at juuuust the right moment to make that essential kill.
The thing I don't like is how charging with cavalry lets your opponent do double damage against you. Doesn't make sense.
CR
If the opponent survives the charge that is... spears mind you are rather nasty.
Does anyone else plan which characters they prefer to level up and to which upgrade?
For instance the loyal ones I try and keep around (they are essentially in economic terms a village (per level?) in upkeep cost saved) so I keep them in the role of economic gain (gaining villages) while my shield wall goes to fight the enemies.
Hmm, beat the Bay of Pearls level last night after several retries. I seem to have difficulty getting leveled up units (though nothing died since the second level, until this one, I had leveled up Deolfar(?) though). I only had one level 2 unit at the start of this mission, an Elven ranger (the promoted scout) :wall:
Finally did manage to beat this level (mainly by exploiting the AI), only lost 5 mermen, none of my regular units. Two cav promoted to Knight.
I really need more levelled up units though...
I sure do. Some are destined for fame. I also change their names after they make 2nd rank. I give them corny Dutch names like Quaeckernaet and Deudekom.Quote:

Well, some did make it to my walls early on, one even got onto a wall, but was killed in the same turn. I just never needed to really fear the walls would be breached. How I did it:Quote:

has anyone defeated the 2nd scenario in a 'tale of two brothers' campaign on the hardest difficulty. you have to fight against elvish cavalry and no matter what i try, i get smacked down. i went through the whole south guard campaign, never had a serious problem, then i try this campaign and just got stuck at scenario 2.
Version 1.4 was finally released a couple days ago. I compiled it and it looks like they made a few nice improvements over 1.2.
From the changelog:Also, they've apparently added support for multi-player campaigns!Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
This might be a good time for old Wesnoth fans to take another look, or for people who missed out altogether to go get it- now. :2thumbsup:
Thanks for the update Xiahou. I'll have to check it out again.
Great, when I saw this thread I decided to give this game a try. Now I can't stop playing it. :wall:
