They really ventured into progressive-rock territory after that... something they couldn't really pull off, unless "30 Seconds over Winterland" misrepresents their level of quality at the time.
Hot Tuna is psychedelic blues? Maybe... I only ever bothered to get their first album, which is straight-up old fashioned blues; good stuff. The other album I got wasn't very good, but I would more call it bad blues-rock than psychedelic blues. Maybe I associate psychedelic blues with Hendrix too much.
And how do yo fall asleep on acid?! Did you mix it with ludes or alcohol or what? Or was it the Dead that put you to sleep? :laugh4:
@Beirut: I'm 21. I just have the mind of a man who is living in 1967 rather than 2007.
The Beatles album Magical Mystery Tour is fairly psychedelic. Especially "Strawberry Fields", "I Am The Walrus", "Blue Jay Way", "Flying" and even "Baby You're A Rich Man" is semi-psychedelic.
But they are definitely not the best "Hippie" band, they made too much money to take that title. So I once again I'll say The Velvet Underground should be up there, songs like Heroin etc.
Edit: Pretty much any Beatle song with John Lennon singing is quite Psychedelic, such as "A Day In The Life" or "Good Morning, Good Morning", he always appeared to me as the arty one.
Now your catching my drift :laugh4:Quote:

Thats a mighty short list. Lets see if I can compile a better one.Quote:

Dudes just look at the cover of Revolver and remember this is 1965

Oh and let my throw in Hey Bulldog and What’s The Real Mary Jane . Never released until the Anthology series, What’s The Real Mary Jane is an absolutely insane song. This is not much of a “song” in the classic sense of the word but I find it to be a very enjoyable bit of sound to experience. This song can be found on Anthology II.
Well, then perhaps you have to give some credence to the opinions of us old farts who "were there". Gawain, far older, though perchance less fartier than me, was there in tulip trenches with the Airplane. I, on the other hand, was a long haired denerate with a jean jacket covered in Deep Purple and Pink Floyd patches back in the 70s, and still remember listening to Let it Be on a 45 that my brother brought home from the store.Quote:

Naaaah!
I am giving you guys credence. I just think you're wrong. :laugh4:
Hell, you oughta be grateful there are people like me who still appreciate psychedelic music, seeing as I come from the generation that has listened to the worst music in history: Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, Green Day, Britney Spears... ugh.
Why? It would still be there. Your the one who should be grateful our generation came up with this stuff or look what you would be stuck listening to. :laugh4:Quote:

No Ill give you CreedenceQuote:

After all that you come up with is a Beatle cover.
:embarrassed: I tried to find a better song...
Okay, how about this: Janis and Big Brother.
...Now who was the hardest rocking, again? ~D
Here's a better one. Skip ahead to about 3:40, though; the beginning is a bunch of commentary.
Janis was one of the role models for hippy chicks thats for sure. Along with Grace Slick and Michelle Phillips. Ill take Michelle:laugh4: God I was in love with that girl . Oh yeah and of course Stevie Nix.
Big Brother was one great band.
At great risk of opening an ecstasy-driven neopsych Pandora's box, I am going to put forward a modern (~) Psych-rock band: The Black Angels. They just recently released their first record, and I'll be damned if it isn't one of the best records of the past decade. They have a sound reminiscent of the Doors and native American tribal music, with some Black Sabbath thrown in for good measure.
A few good samples:

TURN YOUR SOUND DOWN BEFORE LISTENING TO THIS ONE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iIwHBCAOSo
I would recommend buying it too, it's nuts, absolutely crazy. Insane drone. Most of their songs remind me of "Sister Ray" by The Velvet Underground.

Lol, the goat woman.Quote:

First thing that came to my mind: "Dopes to infinity" by Monster Magnet. The more recent releases are less psychedelic...
Moody Blues and bands like Pretty Things, Procol Harum, Free, Yes, Kak, Moby Grape, Move and many more. Then ''The Spirit''. One of most underestimated bands in history of modern music. One of best and most influential rock' n' roll bands.
I've not went into ''historical'' background and who was the most important, influential, etc. Gawain already made few good posts for those who are interested in more details there is a lot of info on the internet.
Keep searching. First guide should be allmusic.com.For the start try with Randy California.
I wouldn't call The Moody Blues psychedelic though.
One beautiful woman with the most uniigue voice in history.Quote:

A lot more so thanThey were folk rock. Yes 8 miles high is a drug song.Quote:

The Notorious Byrd Brothers was a classic psychedelic album... but yeah, I don't know why the Moody Blues would not be psychedelic. They have always reminded me of a sort of mixture of the Beatles and Pink Floyd.
AH HELL! They're the group I've been forgetting; the Moody Blues! Especially my two personal favorite albums, In Search of the Lost Chord and On the Threshold of a Dream. The latter is one of my favorite albums of all time; it actually replaced Dark Side of the Moon quite a while ago as my favorite progressive rock album of all time (back when I used to really listen to Floyd.) If you don't believe me, choose a nice, quite night to listen to it on, then light up a big ol' joint and slap it on the turntable. Trust me; nothing else compares. It's like Dark Side for the 60's man.
If someone blows a mind it George Micheal! And you all know it!
You dirty Heathens.
Its the Grateful Dead, not only have I seen them multiple times and can attest to it personally, but what other group that you experts listed participated in the acid tests by ken kesey?
contest over.
 Incredibly dull guitar solos do not a good band make.
And taking acid with Ken Keasey does not make you special, any more than snorting coke with Ted Nugent.
That dosent negate thier rightful claim as a "psychedelic/hippie band" does it ? (the dull guitar solo bit)Quote:

Not only that 35 years later they were still playing blues/country driven psychedleic music.
If there ever was a hippy band that was it. Even if they did suck :laugh4: LIke I said one of Gerrys solos put me to sleep while doing 2 hits of acid.Quote:

Oh and speaking of the Moody Blues that sort of leads us into prog rock which sort of intertwines with this thread
ELP Brain salad Surgery anyone? I love their version of Jerusalem.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer {ELP} - Lucky Man - Royal Albert Hall
I always loved Emersons synth work at the end of this song. Its a classic
Emerson Lake & Palmer - from the beginning
Emerson Lake & Palmer - The Barbarian
Which leads us to Yes
yes - close to the edge pt. 1
Roundabout
Damn did I leave these guys out?
Cream Tales of brave ulysses Live 1973
Heres a live trippy version of
Cream - We're Going Wrong
Man I was a lucky boy growing up.:laugh4:
I remember seeing this and thinking now thats Psychedelic. The record didnt disappoint.

What an incredible album. Still one of my top 10 favorites.
Hmm, never really did like Cream. Clapton is such a ... :toilet:. Plus it's way way too white for me, they attempt bluesish rock but IMHO fail.
Edit: Plus the state of the drummer simply makes me unable to take their music seriously.
Edit: Edit: Jack Bruce is their only saving grace.

Spirit toured with Led Zeppelin when they first played the US and from the song "Taurus" Led Zeppelin made their Stairway to Heaven.
Another great song from Spirit:
Dark Eyed Woman

Not to mention that even this song as many more from them influence on other bands.
As I've already mentioned The Spirit are one of most underestimated bands in history of modern music.
Ginger Baker is an awesome drummer, but look at him, he took way too many drugs.Quote:
