Re: Ah well it's just christmas.
I wasn't trying to make you seem incompetent, I just remembered the "12 Days of Kwanzaa" - which I find hilarious and very representative of many people who live around here. :beam:
As for your question - I think every society has cultural values that are part of its social fabric, and in the Western World, Christmas and Easter are included. While the government is secular, it still represents the people within it, and if the vast majority celebrate Christmas, then it is definitely worthy of a national holiday.
As others have said, Christmas has transcended religion for most people and become part of the culture. And who is it that wants to get rid of Christmas? Jews? Hindus? Bhudists? Muslims?... nope.. only the people who claim to represent them... I wouldn't call them multiculturists, more like anticulturists...

I know that, how can I have a nemesis that doesn't exist? Multiculture is nothing more then the percieved heaven of those who want to believe in something. No such thing, only groups of people living on the same spot.
And Kamikan, they can do that what is your point? There is this wild thing called 'days of', you have a few each year and you can take them when you want, and you can work at christmas if you want.......
Re: Ah well it's just christmas.
I say we take back Yule and celebrate it as it should. The church took it from us way back when.
If the Christians want to celebrate the birth of Christ, then they should be allowed to. But here is an idea… why not celebrate a little closer to the actual day He was born, say around April.
Christmas today, at least here, is called Jul (see the connection?). We feast on pork, drink Juleøl (Yule beer) or Julebrus (Yule soda). We go to Julebord (Yule feasts) and eat and drink ourselves to stupor. We decorate trees; we decorate with mistletoe and holly and burn Yule logs. Much like we did pre-Christianity.
Let the Christians have their own holyday… We want ours back.
Re: Ah well it's just christmas.
The only problem I have with Christmas is that we don't seem to get snow anymore. Thank you global warming you destroyed my romantic christmas winters. :furious3:
Yes, it's actually true, while I played in snow half the winter as a kid, we now get hardly any snow and probably soon now snow at all in winter.
Maybe the weather is a multicultist? It wants to turn good old Germania into a new Africa. :eeeek: :clown:
Re: Ah well it's just christmas.
I'm with Sigurd! Let's reclaim our pagan heritage, we've been suppressed by this imported eastern mystery religion for too long! I mean who do they think they are, bringing their middle-eastern personality cults to upset the lives of decent law-abiding, beer-swilling, virgin-sacrificing, pig-eating, sheep-bothering pagan peoples?!!
So I demand days off for: Imbolc, Beltaine, Oestre, Samhain, Lughnasad, vernal and autumnal equinoxes, summer and winter solstices, and any "Saint's" day that can be identified as a gloss of a pre-existing pagan deity.
I think that should cut my work days down to about three per year.... cool :clown:

QFT
Heh - may I join the surprised group of people who find themselves in full agreement with PJ on a sociopolitical issue?
~;)

Never really thought about it; but is that a thing we invented? Hmm...
Anyway, you forgot the bit about "cheating with a co-worker after getting drunk" though.

:laugh4:
I solved my problem by starting a real hippie flower thread. I'd think you should be cured if you tried to explain fascism here again :smash:
