Re: Do we really need to compete?
@Centurio Nixalsverdrus:
How did you get those civilians to walk around your settlement?
Great pics everyone:2thumbsup:
EDIT: I think I've found some animation problems.

Re: Do we really need to compete?
Animation problem? You mean you've never heard of the famous Carthaginian find in Tunisia, with two halves of a sword stuck to the sides of a helmet, which was apparently a popular Barcid party trick referenced by Polybios? All historically accurate I assure you.

Re: Do we really need to compete?
Ah well that explains it. The Barcas were cunning bastards...
Forgive me for ever doubting EB.

AW: Do we really need to compete?
@TWFanatic:
In the settlement details menu, on the lower left-hand corner is a button called "view settlement on battle map". Make a save prior for I've heard that it occasionally CTDs when doing so. (Mine never though)
Oh, and your Celtic pic is great!
@all:
Glad to hear you like them.

Re: Do we really need to compete?
"500 things we learned from 'The Real Story of Troy'"
#1 The Trojans carry the Ptolemaioi banner to war. Or it's Mycenaeans.
Sorry, couldn't resist :smash:
-
Re: Do we really need to compete?
Of course it's Mycenaeans :smash: :smash: :smash:
the second thing a curious one could learn from 'The Real Story of Troy' is that MiniMe instead of "I've come" for some reasons typed "I'm come" and is not going to correct it, cause he's lazy
-
Re: Do we really need to compete?
#3 Achilles refers to his beloved as Patroklvs deviating towards Roman nomenclature

Now, that's a beautiful scene Tellos. I hate fighting in forest maps (too difficult to control everything) but such a scenery is what I often dream myself in. ~:)

Re: Do we really need to compete?
I had a screen shot of a battle which took place just outside of the Hot Gates, but I seem to have misplaced it. Perhaps it has been recycled...:skull:

Count! 6 naked guys and only a half of penis. They are shy or just do not want to make problems with public nudity.

Re: Do we really need to compete?
Tellos, where on the map is that? The landscape looks unique.

That's a preview of sorts if you want of some geography modding me and LordBula worked on.

Crap. I had completely forgotten about that file. (Though to redeem myself: I had dropped that file into 1.0, so that's how I forgot it maybe wasn't out there like this yet...)
Anyway, for the curious: this is what awaits you on the slopes of the moutains to the north of Thermon. All hail Redmeth and LorDBula for creating this! :balloon3:

All hail, indeed. I'm really excited about the prospects of more interesting geography, especially near mountains. Fighting in the mountains in RTW has none of the feeling of actual mountain combat. Hopefully, you've all remedied that with cliffs, rocks, etc...
Either way, I'm sure 1.1 and all the other benefits that come after will continue to make this into an even better experience.
Cheers.

Re: Do we really need to compete?
How much work did that involve?
I have a nasty susipsion that it took a hell of a long time. It just looks ike that somehow...

At first I tried editing the .db file with a hex editor and that was a nightmare but thankfully LordBula made a great tool that makes it a lot easier to edit the file using Excel.
Then after trying some ideas that didn't work (like using the M2TW values) we just went with trial and error and I believe managed to improve the look of the battle maps. There are still some places that are not right but it's mostly hardcoded problems. All in all the landscapes are less drab and boring.

hold on, so in EB 1.1 were going to be able to tour the landscape as we tour cities?:2thumbsup:
anyhow, how would you be able to fight in that terrain? it would be like a huge game of hide and seek, with all of the hiding units!
ps- we really should start putting out EB postcards- thatll be cool!

No you don't tour the terrain like cities it's just that the landscapes you fight in will look better.
There were plenty of examples of forested terrain before too.
Postcards are not a bad idea...
-
Re: Do we really need to compete?
oh, i just never really fought in heavily forested areas- i avoided them in my romani campaign
hm..... how about E-Cards?
-
Re: Do we really need to compete?
Will that map be available in custom battles? It just looks like fun to play as all factions in but with my conquering (lack of) speed I'll never reach it as some factions, e.g. Casse or Lusotannan, and it looks great for Lusotannan ambush tactics.

It wasn't as much a forest as the slope of a mountain. And my troops stood on top of it - the AI was attacking. Mind you the AI decided there was only so much crap it could take so it retreated from the battle on its own account (when they were exhausted and had climbed not even halfway yet).

kids, don't follow MiniMe and post without thinking =)

please say you charged down the slope! :charge:
i would love to fight a battle in that terrain i can see it now.....
***the enemy charges uphill at a unit which has positioned itself to look helpless, just beyond a large hill. just as they pass it, and almost exhausted from charging up the hill, the gallant cataphracts charge and wipe them all out!***
but seriously, it would be a cool map to play on.....
i would like to see a desert landscape where there are many sand dunes and if there is a sandstorm, the dunes would blow over and over a unit, killing them. :beam:

Having seen these; is it possible to turn off the radar in minimal UI? I prefer the standard UI and stand the widescreenish cropping because of that. ~:handball:
