Then the map loaded, and it looked like this:

Completely surrounded, one or two of the stacks have artillery, but still only the one at the front has siege equipment. All I have to do is block the ram and hold the walls. Right?

Despite burning that tower and despite the fact that the Mongols weren't using their trebuchet, I was a little worried. I mean, the other armies were
moving. Most of the time the reinforcements in an AI siege don't even do that much. Furthermore, their infantry was scaling the ladders and the other tower in force, not one lonely company at a time. Still, as usual, I sent out my cavalry, and they stopped the crew of the ram. The Mongols brought up their second ram, and I stopped that crew too, but all of my cavalry died in the effort.

It was reassuring that the enemy didn't grab their rams again, and they would sit there for the rest of the battle. It didn't matter though. More and more Mongols were making their way onto the walls, and my first tier scrub troops weren't making much of a dent. Worst of all, infantry from the first two reinforcement armies made it to the walls and started climbing the ladders too.

Ahh, they're all packed in densely at the foot of the walls to either side of the gate, so...
send in the elephants!

Hundreds of Mongols died. The ground ran red with their blood, the earth became sodden with their viscera, and it was not enough. My elephants burned, took heavy lancer charges, ran amok, and finally just died. The assault continued. The Mongols took the walls against every scrap of resistance my men could offer, the raced immediately to the square.

I tried every trick I knew. My Kshatriya warriors contested the gatehouse for many long minutes against what seemed to be thousands of Mongol infantry, but they were driven back and destroyed. The pathetic remnants of my army huddled in the square and waited to die.
