Tosa, there is a new feature that let me see the edit history. Can mods see members edit?
Everything's working again for me (using Firefox with the Guild skin). :inquisitive: :2thumbsup:
Mafia games could be using this function... you know.Quote:
Of course, I'm not really sure why you'd want to view your *own* edit history either, but I'm not going to worry about it.
I personally would consider it a little bit intrusive. Although it could be used to find vote editors and rule breakers, it would make the games too easy. Should a Mafioso, for example, realise he's posted something suspicious and then rapidly edit it out, users will be able to backtrack and see the edit henceforth finding him out.
~:)
Hello,
That's a new vanilla feature.
There is a similar one hacked in for some time now, but that only worked for the WiKi forum (one of the RTW modding ones).
This vanilla one is global, can be en- or disabled. It is enabled now. Good and bad things. I think only youself, moderators in the forums they moderate and myself are able to see the edit history. ..Just checked, doesn't seem anything can be tweaked about that than just on and off. It may be possible to modify it a bit though, would make some sense for the Mafia forum, as the moderator there should be able to play it too.
It would probably be nice in some cases to update a post and be able to see what was in earlier.
It may be of use in some confusing disputes where one edited or did NOT edit out an insult or an insult that never was there. It might help staff in those cases to make a better and more fair judgement.
I expect though that it will be something that needs to be prunned from time to time, or perhaps disabled: it's not something that's important and/or used very much, while it will likely eat storage and a lot.
For notes you better use paper or local storage, or the personal notepad found in the usercp. There's also another thing called user notes in your userpage. That's actually an older vanilla feature, but this time it seems better worked out. There are some config options for that though and I'm not sure about the current settings: it may be even more public than your edit history atm.
I wasn't able to view people's edits in the Citadel. Maybe a full mod and admin only feature?
Yes FactionHeir, I think so.
I'm guessing so, FH, although of course Tosa would know for sure.
Incidentally, I've noticed that the "edited by" message isn't always clickable. I *think* it's related to whether a post was edited before or after the forum upgrade -- thus far, I've not been able to look at the edit history of posts that were edited before the upgrade -- but don't quote me on that.
Tosa
The feature wasn't there before the upgrade, it's new.
Enabled a vanilla option: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/profile.php?do=customize
What happened to the visitor messages section?
Disabled that by accident, sorry.
Yay, URL avatars are up again!
Hey, everytime I go to a thread it says Error on Page. What's up with that?
And everthing is really slow for me.
Edit - Post 100 on the Upgrade thread.
I'm so special.
I noticed that this morning (GMT-5) the scroll wheel on my mouse stopped working normally. Mainly, whenever I click the wheel to scroll down/up to a part of the page it only works for about a second and then reverts me back to the normal cursor.
Not sure if this is related to the upgrade or not, but is anybody else experiencing this? The wheel works fine on other websites.
Works fine for me (Firefox 3.0rc2, Sword Dojo skin).
A small glitch which has existed for a while now for me is the misalignment of the site tools menu - it's a little far to the left of where it theoretically should be (directly below the site tools button). The table button also is mildly misaligned and probably would fit slightly better next to the main tools list rather than next to the favourite smilies button.
Hope this is constructive ~:)
Two things:
For each forum (forum view, subforum view, thread view) view but not for instance profile or forum index view, the main tool bar with UserCP, PM, Chat etc is at the very bottom.
Also on those pages, there are 2 triangles after each expandable section rather than 1 for the top bar and none for the otherwise identical bottom bar.
Clicking on any of the main grey bar elements in the bottom bar results in the current page being reloaded instead of opening the respective section. Doing so also changes which options are available on the top (and bottom) bar thereafter until exiting the thread in question.
Not sure if it's the upgrade or some type of comercial that does it, but the forum has gone completely unstable for me. Now I've been experienced some problems with the comp before (seems to be corrupted graphic drivers that doesn't want to fix), but that has been rebooting 1-3 times a day, while this forum (and only this forum) crashes the comp within 5 min atm.
Started yesterday afternoon.
Fortunatly failsafe mode haven't failed me yet ~;p
Just another small issue I've found in the Members list. Things are under the wrong categories (e.g. avatars under "Last Visit" and "Occupation" under "Age").
Moderator lists not on the front page, in sub-forums, also are mildly messed up. They don't appear in a drop down list, appearing as they do in the vanilla set-up, just without the ability to click on their usernames.
~:)
BTW, Ironside, it could be related to a browser problem and it coming across some code which disagrees with it. IE 6 is particularly bad for that sort of crash. You could try updating Flash, which often is partially attributable to such issue, or you could try an alternative web browser such as Firefox or Opera.
I would really like to have the divider between stickied and non-stickied posts put back.
But I said that first!
And is this meant to be normal? I mean, that bar is already in the top, so why does it appear at the bottom?:
https://img257.imageshack.us/img257/4466/madnessva3.jpg
Because then you won't have to scroll back to the top to access it when you're already at the bottom.
Refer to my post how this function is bugged.
Just preparing the next step Caius.
By the way, I noticed that I cant scroll with the "third" button. Also, threads are showing very slow.
I can scroll just fine with the mouse wheel as well as by middle clicking.
Middle button isn't working well. Stops after a few seconds automatically. Doesn't matter though because if you have a middle "button", its usually a wheel.
Something wrong with the search function.
When you click the post count in the forum view to see how much each person has posted and then click on a number next to a person to find all their posts in that thread, you get to a blank screen instead of the search being performed.
Hello,
I use the MS basic optical mouse myself, that one requires pressing the scrollwheel down. Once to lock it, twice to unlock or keep pressed while scrolling. Not sure whether it's changed, seems the same to me?
Will check the search FactionHeir.
Some things I have noticed:
Scrolling in a thread is incredibly jerky, even though the page has loaded.
Typing in the quick post box is very unresponsive, at the worst requiring a full second between keystrokes to recognise them.
As for using the scroll wheel on a mouse, mine works fine by just scrolling, no clicking it. As above, it is very jerky and skips around though.
What browsers and systems are you using?
I use Firefox in Vista and I have no problems with scrolling at all. there has to be something that's different.
Currently IE 7 in Vista.
It could, and I'm just guessing here, be attributed to the smooth scrolling feature. This is enabled by default in IE 7, but disabled in Firefox and (I think) Opera. For me smooth scrolling in IE and Firefox always has been extremely choppy regardless of the power of the computer I use it on. IE certainly is the worst of the two, sometimes totally freezing up when I try to scroll when a more intensive page is loading.
In IE 7, the fuction can be found by going to the "Tools" menu, selecting "Options" and then selecting the "Advanced" tab. If you cannot find the menu bar, press the "Alt" key to display it.
Scroll down in the box till you find the "Browsing" area. At the bottom of that, there should be a "Use Smooth Scrolling" checkbox. De-check it and select Ok.
After that, you should notice a massive increase in performance when scrolling overall.
~:)
BTW, has the .Org just had a downtime. Firefox was telling me that the document had no data and IE was totally stalling upon loading.
Hello,
The divider bar between stickies and normal threads is back, as well as the option to collapse them. It should now also work when there are only personal stickies in a forum.
You could experiement in the Watchtower, as there are no stickies here.
Thanks Tosa. :beam:
Thanks Tosa!
Userpage
Is it possible to change it back to the old format where the background was the same as for post background rather than a white background (I'm using The Guild)?
Thank you Tosa and Omanes!
~:thumb:
In the quick reply/edit box, in the Guild skin, the inset text boxt is now a white background.
Change to the guild skin, hit quick reply and see :laugh4:
Hi Tosa,
This is what I mean
Oh, and can we get that imageshack upload box in our advanced post options back?
[edit]
Oh, and that PM button in each post that opens a new window with the recipient already in it was really helpful too!
The page looks fine in Firefox 3 using all skins, but is bugged in IE 7.
A small issue I've just noticed is when a guest tries to acess any page they are locked out of. Rather than getting a helpful message and a log in screen as they are on other vBulletin forums, they are given a rather difficult to understand message about fixing a cookie. This may be deliberate, but it's certainly not going to assist a less knowledgeable guest in realising why they have been locked out and how to access it.
~:)
Hmmm so its a thing with VB and IE?
Oh, and as for the error on page several people were mentioning, as you can see I got it on all pages too. But its not just an ORG problem. I get it on every page since I got IE7 (was fine with IE6)
Nope, previously the background was the light brown type.
Seems fixed now?
Yes, its fixed now, thanks Tosa! ~:)
It's a minor thing, but I was curious as to whether/when the "PM member" icon (at the bottom-right of posts) will be restored. That was another handy little feature.
Hello,
The old Radio had to be upgraded too. You can find the link in SiteTools/Radio and TV.
FireFox users may have to download the plugin to fix the TV: https://forums.totalwar.org/tosa/wmpfirefoxplugin.exe
Hello,
Some browsers appear to have problems with parts of the new skin, the i-bulletin skins should work in those cases. I don't know yet what is causing the trouble, that's hopefully a matter of little time.
Has the Prefix been mentioned. I came in this morning and if you click on a prefix, it will sort them by prefix.
Cool!
I've got to say Tosa - I love the new World Clock feature at the bottom.
I dunno, I'm finding it intrusive and unnecessary. I preferred the old world times function which could be accessed from the menu bar. It also probably would look nicer if there were a larger distance between it and the bar at the bottom and, when applicable, the posting rules box.
Some icons are still missing in Sword Dojo. We haven't got the albums icons in the album part, the throbber is missing from after we edit posts in simple view and the icons for going to the quote are sadly not there either.
Couple of issues which I've had for a while though, the Links and Downloads manager is a bit of a chore to navigate for me at the moment. This is due to the category depth shown by the display (currently three). It would be much easier if it only showed a category depth of two or showed three in a more organised layout.
The favourite smilies options probably should go under the "Settings and Options" part of the UserCP navigation strip rather than under "Your Profile" due to it, unlike those options there, not being part of the visable profile which other users can see.
~:)
I notice the odd scrolling now too. It's normal in the Vanilla skin, but not in others. In only happens when viewing a topic. That makes a suspected template.
The Posting rules box is always at the top, except in the Vanilla skin. But there's no WorldClock in that one. ?
Something very weird that's probably related to the mouse scroll not working:
If I am trying to select a bunch of text and don't do it very quickly, sometimes it just interrupts the selection. Is the page constantly being refreshed anywhere at regular intervals?
I do have it hidden, but even then I have the bar there which, I must say, is a little on the thick size. It may be more bearable if it were a little more distanced, just a line, from the items around it.
Thanks BTW, Tosa, for the work you've been doing so far and tolerating me - I'm probably becoming annoying now
Update I've been having a heck of a time browsing on IE, It takes forever to load pages, I had to open this thread on Failfox because this thread did not load. It doesn't seem to show the page your trying to load till its fully loaded and freezes immediatly after you click a link till the page loads.
Yup I cant sellect more than a little bit before it decides to stop letting me select. I dont know why the quick reply box is so slow to respond to keystrokes either, works fine in normal reply.
All these problems occur no where else.
(IE 7, Vista, The Guild Skin)
Oh, I use IE7 (with IE7Pro plugin) and WinXP Pro SP3 with Guild skin
Hello,
Not at all. Feedback is good. While I try several browsers and skins, it's far from likely that I spot every glitch/bug/oddity.
'It also probably would look nicer if there were a larger distance between it and the bar at the bottom and, when applicable, the posting rules box.'
This is about the WorldClock bar. The posting rules box is moved to the top (where it was in the old situation) before installing the clock. In which skin/browser/location do they interfere?
Hello Rilder,
I noticed, IE seems to have more trouble with topics than FF. That can be due to conflicting coding styles of HTML, perhaps even erratic coding (FF accepts it, IE doesn't/struggles).
Have you tried the Vanilla skin or one of the IBulletins? They seem faster with IE.
I'll try to restore the other styles to performing shape (there are some odd issues with it and non FF browsers). That may take some time.
