Chapter Seventeen: The Battles of Gaul (Part One)
(From the runic book:)
Summer 229BC
As i write these words my uncle prepares for the inevitable. Someday into the future will may have to go to war with the newly founded Roman Empire. If this was ten winters ago i would have been eager to fight them, in fact i think we ALL would have been. However the disaster in the Po, the utter dissolution of the Ligurians and the loss of terriories south of the Alps, have proven in the most horrific fashion that trying to fight Roma on its own terms would be not only insane but futile. We have also recieved more news of Romani conquests abroad. To their south a people that have had a long standing fued with the Romani, called the Carthagoains, have been wiped from the earth. Also the near unbalievable flood of Romani settlers from the south of Italia continues. Our spieshave counted nearly 1 million familes of Romani have gone to Africa, Hispania, the Po Valley, Romani Illryia and the newly conquered south of Gaul with ever more needing to leave as well. Of Gaul itself there is little good news. There have been three HUGE battles for the control of the south of Gaul. The Gauls have lost all three of them.
The first we reicved news of was a battle north of Massalia. Two Romani Legions were involved, under the command of a man named Gaius Marius, facing off against a huge warband of Gauls under the command of a petty warchief named Piso.

https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...58-27-74-1.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...58-43-96-1.jpg
The Gaul brought along many of their mystic men, called Druids, to try and strenghten the resolve of their men. These Druids use magics much like our seers do. However they have their flow vision pattern burned into their skin rather than use viewing RuneStones. All i can say is that they have DEDECATION to their arts.

https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...34-49-80-1.jpg
In spite of their incredibly brave efforts, it simply was not enough to stop in tide of Romani warriors. And when their warchief fell it unraveled quickly.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...35-53-39-1.jpg
In the next two great battles, the Gauls were under the command of twin brothers whom served the Averni tribe. Their names were Cocolitanos and Adcodravto In spite of the death of their Verrix having broken Gaul apart once again, this tribe contiues the fight for its survival. The first battle was just of the other side of the great Humins Mountains that split Gaul from Hispania. The Romani were under the command of a man named Constantine or some such.

https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-04-02-49.jpg
It was a total disaster for the Gauls. The second battle didnt go very much better.

He is reported to be one of the greatest generals of the Romani, comparable to Germanicvs himself, and for good reason. it is a terrifiying prospect to face two of such men at once. However our spies tell us that there is some tension between the two men. I have ordered our spies to do their best to disrupt the relations between the two. However it is not likely to have an effect soon enough to save the Gauls, even as a buffer.
As a result of these battles the great Gaulish city of Burgidalia as well as the town of Tousdia fell incredibly quickly.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-42-06-68.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-52-19-66.jpg
After those towns fell, the Legio II was split into three columns to take the entire Gaulish west coast over the Autumn before the cold set in. They succeded admirably, for it only took them three weeks to march north subduing numerous Gaulish villages and even mauling a small Gaulish ambush force without struggle.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-42-06-68.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-52-19-66.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-02-48-18.jpg
Eventually the lead part of the Legion reached the largest town in Armorica ((Brittany)), Bisellan. After building two rams over the course of a month, the siege began. It was not hard to drive the Gauls off their petty wooden palisades. However on the hill in the center of town the Gauls made a heroic stand.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-14-27-50.jpg
In the end however it was all for naught.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-17-53-89.jpg
And so the entire west coast of Gaul fell. It was quick, quiet and painless for the Romani.
In the south of Gaul the Romani forces under Gaius and Constantine are going to meet up at the largest city left standing in Gaul, the capital of the Averni, Gergovia. In a classic pincer move, they will cut off a LARGE portion of the Gaulish army from their major populace base. As a result this will leave ALL of the tribes of Gaul severly weakened. We have begun tosmuggle weapons to the Gaulish tribes upon the other side of the river in case the Averni fail to halt the Romani. I can only hope it is enough.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Wow Olaf, you sure have lots of free time! I just wish I had even a bit of yours solely for my own AAR, but then you can't have it all, do you? I haven't read everything you posted lately yet, but I sure will at some point. Good luck further!

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Well I have just finished reading everything you have written so far. I have to admit this has got to be the most unique AAR I have ever read on these forums. The way you combined an EB campaign with elves and magic makes for an excellent story:2thumbsup:. I also loved the alternative world history.
Congratulations:applause: and keep up the good work~:)

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Seventeen: The Battles of Gaul (Part Two)
(From the Latin book:)
Spring 228BC
At last! While much of Gaul as already fallen, we have just recieved a report that Gergovia has fallen to our forces. Ill record the reports from Gaius whom has taken the city here.
As i write this we are pludering Gergovia and taken all of their people prisoner. These Gaulish fools will make great slaves across the Empire. And this victory should just about wrap up whatever resistance the Gauls have left in them. The battle was a hard one, for the Gauls had a huge number of troops within the city walls. It was a truley misty morning far more so than we had expected. We began by send the Triarii upon the walls away from many of their troops, under the cover of the fog.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-11-38-89.jpg
We also had some of the men digging beneath the walls. We had it set up so that large sections of wall would fall down, and that would be our ticket in.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-11-48-23.jpg
We had also built a ram and a set of ladders, but the ram didnt last long.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-11-57-32.jpg
The maniple of men on the ram went instead to get on the ladders when their ram began to burn. However both maniples were under heavy attack. When the ladders finally did reach the wall, the men climbed up it as fast as possible. However at the top there was a surpries waiting for them. Up from behind the ramparts sprang a whole band of Celtic axemen that had been hidden within the mist, who proceeded to crush every man that was Roman on the wall itself. The slaugter was terrible, however this bought time for the miners to birng down a whole section of wall. However the enemy had anticipated this part too, for behind the wall they had a large number of troops ready to take us down as we tried to get through the ruins. Seeing the number of losses that this would inflict upon the two legions that i had under my command i instead order the rest of the army to the other side of the wall, where the Triarii had captured a LARGE portion of wall, many towers , and another gatehouse. They mounted their balistas under the cover of the fog. It would be a deadly surprised for our enemy. As we moved to the other side, so did our enemy.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-31-01-96.jpg
However the collapsed sections of wall blocked them from easy entry to the captured sections. But the enemy once again infuriated my efforts by putting some of their heaviest swordsmen in front of the captured gates. The Triarii came down from the walls and charged into the backs of these swordsmen, as the rest of the army pourded into the city. This broke the swordsmen. However just as they broke. They fog behind us lifted. Within it had been nearly the entire Gaulish army within the city. However they did not know that the towers were taken yet. The men on the tower balistas were waiting to get as many Gauls within their sights as possible to open fire. When the fog lifted and they charged our lines the balistas opened fire. Half of their army died right there. The rest were so caught up in the charge that they didnt know their brothers behind them were dead. However they soon figured it out and made a run for it. Our cavalry chased them and killed nearly all of them.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-39-26-75.jpg
Maybe one or two made it back to the city center. We followed them however i split the army to surround what little was left of the enemy of three sides. The enemy general, whom i later learned was the Prince of the Averni, charged his personal guard into one of my sets of men.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-00-39-26.jpg
All it did was get him killed.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-02-25-33.jpg
At this point we took their worship ring and found several dozen Druids within. It was these men whom were powering the large amounts of fog around us. While this trick had worked for a while, it eventually became their undoing. Even so we killed them before they had a chance to use their foul powers upon us. Then their last stand began. They had the rest of their heavy swordsmen and a unit of levies with them at the square.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-04-49-31.jpg
In the end it made little difference. For our victory was complete.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-08-34-53.jpg
As we burn this city to the ground, i will have a Roman one built in its place. As we have always done Roma WILL conquer all before it.
I smile as i write this for soon we will be done with Gaul. Then, oh THEN!!! Then we will obliterate the Germans. And i will PERSONALLY oversee the torture of the feathered whore-filth. However i must go now, for there are more reports of Gaulish activities that need to be procesed.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Seventeen: The Battles of Gaul (Part Three)
(From the Latin book:)
Winter 228BC
As i sit here and write these words we are approaching the last of the Free Gaulish armiesIt has taken almost three years of constant fighting to destroy or subdue the Gauls. However, now the remaning Gauls are attempting to flee into the Alps, where we will never find them. Only my Legio IX and the northern parts of the Rhone river stand between them and their "freedom". We will stop them when the time comes. There were many battles to get here as well.
After the fall of Gergovia, the many Legions gathered there split up again to conquer as much as possible before the Gauls could flee again. Mainly the cavalry forces from either Italia, Hispania, or the conqured tribes of Gaul, began to hunt the Free Gauls. There were many minor battles.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-12-42-13.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-01-03-12.jpg
We faced many different tribes of Gauls.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-53-58-05.jpg
Whether in the field....
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-36-15-40.jpg
Or in their pitiful villages.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-31-30-11.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-12-45-07.jpg
In the end it mattered little, for we swept them all before us. What few that mangaed to elude us either fled to the Belgae or are in the army ahead of me. We will deal with the Belgae when the time comes.
Out in the rest of the world much has happened. In Mikra Asia, the people know as the Galatians have utterly revolted and secured their independence from the Eporoite Empire, and that bitch Alexandra. Even as she nurses triplets, she orders her armies to stop the revolts. Further to the east, the Arche Seleukia has been overthrown by its Akkadian subjects. These people then restablish the Akkadian Empire. From Media to Antiochus to start of the Tigris river, the oldest empire in the world has been reborn. To their east the Parthians are trying once again to takes the Fertile Cresent, no matter the cost. Its sad to look at really, i mean these peoples are almost brothers and yet they fight like they are different species.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Seventeen:The Battles of Gaul (Part Four)
(From the Latin book:)
Spring 227BC
As i write these words we are marching north, towards the Belgae tribe of Gauls, the last of the free tribes. The battle at the Rhone river crossing was rather quick and easy for a conflict of that magnitude.
It began at night, with a massive rainstorm in the works. The river was swollen by the rain and the beggings of spring melt.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-46-56-17.jpg
We formed up on our side of the river in a cresent formation, to cover all of the attacking horde.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-46-23-49.jpg
The enemy began to form up so it could rush the river and, what they hoped, our unprepared defenses.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-46-36-13.jpg
As they formed up we could hear their hatred of us and their fear, they cursed us and wished utter death upon our decendants. My scouts could make out thier general forms in the rain. They had their heaviest troops to the fore. I believe those men were going to be a battering ram to break our formation, the other troops to follow behind and finish us off. They began thier charge with a massive roar.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-48-34-60.jpg
In the front were their armed Druids, their swords aflame, their screams of rage growning louder by the second. Behind them their heavy swordsmen. However when the rest of the horde tried to cross as well, the rivers depth and their sheer numbers forced them to slow down significantly.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-52-06-98.jpg
Thus they fell behind the "ram". When the ram did hit us they make some headway but colud not keep going due to their lack of numbers. When the rest of the horde did arrive their advance had stalled. The extra men and their sheer weight managed to push us back. However this was only at the center. I noticed that our flanks were pressing them in. I ordered the flanks to surround the poor fools.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-54-43-55.jpg
They saw this had happened only just after it was complete. Then most of their levies paincked and the streght of their army broke into shreads. Many died right then and there.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-55-12-04.jpg
Then their final reserves of skirmishers proured across in a desperate attempt to save the rest of their men.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-55-49-30.jpg
However by then it was too late. They only joined the utter destruction of their peoples hopes for freedom.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-57-14-87.jpg
We later found out that their Druids were once again responsible for the bad weather. It was once again their attempts to stack their odds that killed them in the end, for the rains had swollen the river and had stopped their levies from coming acroos as fast as planned. Some people never learn. Ah well, their women and children will make great slaves for the Empire. Now we are going up the Rhine river and conquering the west bank for Roma. Along the way we have conquered many minor Gaulish tribes. We have also come across some tribes of German rebels that do not accept the rule of the feathered whore. Most of these tribes surrender immediately. While it would give me great pleasure to kill these German pigs, my orders from the Sentate are to treat any tribes that surrend to us with the utmost respect. This is to encourage the surrender of other tribes. Those idiots in the Senate. They dont know my pain, for most of the filthy bastards fled before the Germans burned Roma in 238. Someday i will kill all of them for this and many other betrayals they have commited against me. However that is for another time and place. For now though i must go. There are more reports that need processing.

Great. ok then TO ALL OF MY READERS:
About this AAR/story, ever since the fourth restart of my campain was savegame corrupted and destroyed i have been using the custom battles feature to continue this AAR/story. The most recent incedent of the is of course Gaul. Ive have been RPing the Romani taking over Gaul. As soon as this is done i will be shifting back to Sweboz focus and POV.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Seventeen: The Battles of Gaul (Part Five)
(From the Latin book:)
Summer 227BC
As i write these words we are finishing up some Belgae prisoner executions. All i can say for the Belgae is that they are incredibly fierce warriors. That and they enjoy the fires of battle. We just fought a great battle today. It was against some Belgae warriors and what was left of the Averni army. We formed up on some rather marshy ground. The two enemy armies came at us form different directions. So i had to break up my army, one to face the Averni fools, although i left them to the Gaulish Auxilia.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-25-09-86.jpg
And one to face the Belgae, commanded by me personally.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-25-03-91.jpg
The Averni were very eager to revenge themselves on their "traitorus bretheren"as they called the Auxiliaries. It was those lines that met first in combat. The fighting was very tough and it quickly stalled. Then the commander of the Auxiliaires charged his cavalry around the enemy lines, and crashed into the back of the Gaulish fools.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-27-02-16.jpg
This broke nearly all of the Averni warriors. However their Verrix managed to rally them again, and again and again.
On my side of the fight, our forces were just collididng with those of the Belgae.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-28-32-98.jpg
We also saw their leader, with a bodyguard of Druids.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-30-21-50.jpg
These men dressed VERY differently than their Averni bretheren. They were also using much less magic than what Averni druids that remained were using. The fight against the Belgae was far more brutal than the Averni. In fact it didnt take the foolish Averni long to start fleeing once again.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-30-34-36.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-31-10-88.jpg
As they fled their Verrix was also killed. The Averni have been destroyed at last. Our Gaulish Auxilia did their work well.
On the other sideof the field the fight with the Belgae was taking far longer than we had expected. These men were not only brave fighters but they were very smart as well. They almost surrounded my maniples of soldiers twice.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-31-32-08.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-34-09-61.jpg
Howver all these attempts did was to further infuriate my Romans. These attacks left both sides devastated. My bodyguards and i did much hard fighting that day. The only reason we were able to break them in the end was because their General was lured away from the main lines by our skrimishers.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-35-23-00.jpg
However they still managed to rip holes in my army.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-35-38-01.jpg
Several maniples fled from the front. As soon as we catch the deserters i will have them decimated for their stupidity.
However in the end it mattered little for we scored a victory, nonetheless.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-36-40-93.jpg
And so we are now within the lands of the Belgae. However we ay not have as long to put them down as we thought, for there are many rumors of rebellion from the newly conquered Gauls. This may be haresay, but if we want to populate these lands with good Romans we will need to make sure that they can settle here in peace. However i must go now for i have executions to attend to.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Eighteen: Desperation and Joy
(From the runic book:)
Spring 226BC
Sad news from the west. The Belgae have capitulated. The only major battle they fought against the Romani was one of near defeat for them and total defeat from the Averni loyalists. As such all of the lands west of the Rhine river are now in Romani hands. Germania is surrounded on two different sides by the foul Romani dogs. We are mobilizing all resources to fend off the coming invasion that i KNOW will arrive as soon as the Gauls are fully settled under their new rulers. I am sending Runic-Hand members to try and destablize those lands from within. I can only pray that it works.
Even more bad news has arrived from outside of our lands in recent weeks. The Arche Eporoitus has officailly declared the Galatian fiasco our fault. If war comes now we cannot expect their help in the least. This will embolden the Romani still further. Im afraid to think of the conesquences of an assult upon my homeland by the full might of the Roman Empire as they call themselves now.
I have personally visited the town and villages of Germania to garner support for any attacks against Roma that may occur in the near future. Ive even visited the Elven capital city of Guraseh and their wonderful Gardens. In the middle of the Gardens are three very ancient trees that support an orb of pure magic that glows with beautiful colors in their branches. The elves say that the Dwarves within the Mountain Holds on the south coasts of Norda ((Norway)) create such wonderous objects. I may have to visit the crafters someday and see about getting a smaller one for myself.
Back to more inportant matters. In the east the Balts have been pushed aside and towards the northern Latvian forests by the Centaur Lords and their human subjects. We managed to halt their advance at the Wesser river, on the great plain. I was asked to see the emmisaries of the Centaur about a settlement to the conficlt in the town of Aresliez. The centaur i met was a young man/horse i guess, with chestnut hair on both his head and as his coat. His name was Acortosl. He wore a battered leather chestpiece and a leather horse skirtes upon the front of his horse.....ummm section?..... Anyways he always carried a heavy hunting spear around and had a bow and pair of quivers full of arrows straped to his sides. With him came his wife who had a light shade of brown for coat and hair color, and if i was not mistaken with my horseflesh studies, was at least 11 months pregnant. She had nothing on. I was told later that Centaur usually dont wear clothes due to their lack of need for it. Their entourage was composed of several human servants, one of whom was a female whom i could tell by he dress, or lack thereof, was the centaur's concubine. As he could not fit into any of the inns or any of the local Warriors Hold doors, we held our negotiations in the square, next to the stables where Acortosl's party slept. We began negotiatians the day after they arrived. When i walked out into the square, his party stopped dead in their tracks, stunned i guess. One of the humans in the party fainted at the sight of me. When he woke up again he refused to be near me at all. I later found out that this was the emissary's personal "Shaman" as they call their seers, and he was terrified of my powers. However as soon as the shock wore off negotiatians began in earnest. It took almost twenty days to come anywhere close to an agreement. We kept arguing over whether the Wesser or the Oder river should be the border. He is a skilled negotiator. However i kept the Wesser as our eastern border, in exchange for a trade agreement. However the day that they were leaving the town his wife collapsed in the street, making all kinds of noise. It turns out that she was giving birth right there. We managed to get her picked up and get her back to the stables. However it was the Shaman that did most of the birthing work. I watched from a distance. It was as any other foaling ((plz tell me thats the right word)) that i have seen, just with 10 times the amount of kicking and screaming. When it was over the child was declared a girl by the shaman. There was much happiness amongst the emmisary's party. So they stayed for about 15 more days after that, letting the child learn to walk and speak properly, as i later found out centaur do. When i asked him why he travelled with his wife when she was so pregnant, he told me that no right minded centaur leaves his wife unaccompained for any lenght of time, even on the battlefield, they fight togerther as one. It appears that once they are wed, centaur STAY with each other, forever.
But i have majorly digressed. And now i must go for i am recieveing a report about Romani activities in the Alps.

Chapter Nineteen: Bloodrage
(From the Latin book:)
Winter 226BC
At last!!!! Soon the Senate will approve my bill for WAR!!! It took a long time to get enough evidence to gather the nessasary votes. It also took the murders of nearly eight Senators to get here. The final straw however was provided by the German pigs themselves. In the form of weapons delivered to the Belgae and other Gaulish tribes. Already we are planning our attacks. I will be building forces in Gaul. He will be crossing the Rhine river. Meanwhile Constantine be taking up the Alpine pass issue once again. This time there will be no stalling out, he has assured me of this.
(From the runic book:)
Spring 225BC
As i write these words i come back from a bloody battle. This current campain is on the eastern bank of the river Rhine. THE RHINE!!!! They have somehow managed to bridge the Rhine. It is frightening.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-33-34-60.jpg
My husband, my son and myself are currently trying to hold back three full Romani legions and MANY Gaulish Auxilias. The first battle was at the Guerzoukz Rock.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-58-08-37.jpg
The enemy lined up partly behind the rock. Among them were both Romani....
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-25-46-67.jpg
And Gaulish Auxilia.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-25-56-02.jpg
My husband was in command of the army. And our son was in his bodyguard. As we could not defeat thebetter trained and armed Romani on their terms, we decide to split our force in half, and lay an ambush upon the dogs. My husband formed up many of the levies on open ground behind a screen of trees, a bait force.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-25-13-67.jpg
My Runic-Hand bodyguards and the far more experineced men gathered to me in the trees behind the great rock, ready to charge once the Romani fools took said bait.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-25-25-64.jpg
The battle began in earnest after the Romani spotted us. The dogs charged my husbands men with a roar upon their souls.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-29-26-96.jpg
The Auxilia especially seemed enraged at the sight of us. However some of their scouts spotted my command. I was forced to order a charge. The ambush failed utterely. They had their best troops upon my forces even before my husband's had arrived on the scene. However the captain that was in command of the Romani must have been either blind or incredibly inexperienced, for he charged into the trees at my husbands forces with only a few bands of soldiers behind him. My hasbands men owhelmed his guards and he fled. However this brought the rest of that wing of our enemies army to the fore. And then the fool commander charged around the flank and tried to get at the back of the army. However he met some of the still hidden reserve levies.
It did not end well for the little fool.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-31-16-96.jpg
Even so his army did not give up very easily. In fact it was at about this point that several bands of enemies broke through the exposed center of our lines. They went after the Skutjonez and he Jungunthiz however. This lead nearly a third of the enemies forces away from our lines for the moment. I sent one or two spare bands to cover the rear then order my command forward as best as i could. We moved inches at best. However we did begin to break their Auxilia.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-31-45-52.jpg
However they began to break my husband's men down as well. On my side of the fight things were bogged down and had devolved into fierce and bloody fighting. The Runic-Hand did what they could, as did i. But for some reason it takes nearly ten times the amount of energy to kill Romani scum than it does other men with magic. I have never figured out why exactly that is. Anyways the fighting on my end became VERY heated.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-32-01-83.jpg
On my husband's side it became worse.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-32-28-75.jpg
However my husband began to push them back after nearly an hour of bloody fighting. However the men before me still refused to break. And the battle at the rear was going horribly. Even so my husband came to my aid while most of his soldiers went after the routers.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-35-23-67.jpg
Even so they still didnt break forcing more men from the chase. And at the rear things were deteriorating QUICKLY.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-36-41-65.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-38-46-51.jpg
And of course many that had routed had by now rallied back.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-37-51-91.jpg
The fighting became even more fierce. At one point my sonwent down under the weight of the enemy. At this i screamed and hurled much magic at the troops on top of him. To my great relief i saw him get back up out of that pile moments later.
And still the enemy did not give up. The fighting continued for another three hours. It ended when the last of the enemy reserves at the front finally fled. We then had to turn the WHOLE army around to clean up the blood-soaked mess at the rear.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-40-35-51.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-40-58-14.jpg
However many of the enemy got away this day.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-42-41-68.jpg
Also much damaged was caused to our only army on this front, by only ONE legion.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-43-30-86.jpg
They have managed to get two legions worth of Auxilia on the west bank of the Rhine and they are crossing over more everyday, as well as true Romani. So this is far from over. In the end we may lose by simple attriction. I can only hope this is not the case.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Twenty:Gambles
(From the runic book:)
Winter 225BC
Sad news from the south. My unlce Harikillaz has been killed in battle against Romani raiders. Of my fathers generation only my uncle, the current high king remains. In the event of his death, my cousin, Harjarwulfaz, will be next in line for the throne. At nearly 70 years old many think that it will not be long. But i have faith that he will be with us for a while yet. He far too stubborn to let go just yet.
However the war in the Alps has become a bloodbath once again. The passes are once again the stalling point. However the Romani bound Illryians have taken it upon themselves to raid our lands north of the Danube to aid their vile masters. We have also recived reports of a Romani army to the south of the Danube heading east. What their intentions are i do not know. However on the Rhine the war has ground to a halt with us having pushed the invaders out by sheer luck. After the battle of the Rock, many of their Auxilia fled for Gaul. The few Romani that had managed to get across had to go with them to bring them to heel. By the time order was restored we had destoryed the bridge and broken any abitly to build another one at that spot on the Rhine. So the stand off continued. As long as things continue like this we should not get overwhelmed. I can olny hope we can keep the balance of power on our side. I am currently putting more men together to go into Gaul itself and cause mass Gaulish revolt. The Romani hold on much of northern Gaul is tenous at best this is why they have not sent many settlers there. I hope to use this well.
(From the Latin book:)
Winter 225BC
ARRRG!!!!!!!!!!! That cursed bitch!!!!! Again she has managed to keep me from my goals. She has repelled my attack over the Rhine, and broken the bridge. I must come up with another way to upset the balance of power, and catch the Germans off guard. The bridge almost worked. However they will be ready for us if we try that again. However Constantine is putting and army together south of the Danube. They are going to go across the great bend in the river, through some lands of the pitiful Gaetia confederation and attack the Germans from the south. Their only army on the Danube is scattered amongst villages trying to fend of the Illryian scum we send at them. At the same time i will cross all of my forc es at once across two bridges and on rafts in nessassary. We WILL have victory. And i WILL have my revenge.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Twenty-One: To Battle (Part One)
(From the runic book:)
Summer 225BC
(Tear stains dot these pages)
I am sorry if my writings are sloppy and if m crying but my husband has just died. Let me begin.
We recieved a report that told us the Romani built two bridges across the Rhine and many, MANY troops were pouring across. We marched forward to meet these fools. We halted their advance near the Gawjam-Geruzoz, across the main path to Swebozaltestruz, the capital. Our scouts reported that we faced two legions worth of men and Auxilia. The Legion standards were those of the III and the VI. I know that these legion were under the direct command of that monster Germanicvs. However our scouts told us he was not among the army before us. We believe that he is still in Gaul waiting for news that it is safe to cross. As it was we formed up in an ambush formation. Looking back i think the Romans knew what we were up to at this point.
I was with the Runic-Hand members and several of our elite forces. We hid amongst the southern trees on the field.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-24-19-97.jpg
Some of our other forces were hidden to the north of the main army, in another attempt to ambush our foes.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-24-11-07.jpg
My husband and son were with the main force, which arrived "late" and in poor order to make the Romani we were ill-prepared and make the dogs overconfident.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-23-50-84.jpg
We spotted the Romani to the far north. They saw my husbands force as well. They began their march into a trap. At least we hoped it was a trap.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-26-39-09.jpg
My husband force continued to march towards the enemy trying to draw them towards his force and complete the trap. However the thrice-dammed dogs turned and headed for the woods. We saw them head for my ambush force. I dont think they knew we were there but they probably had their suspicions and were trying to flush us out.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-41-09-95.jpg
Unfortunatly we were forced to break the ambush. The advance force broke cover to attack the newly exposed Romani rear.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-43-01-96.jpg
My husbands force continued to advance towards the foe trying to pin them so the advance forces could attack the Romani rear with full force.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-43-15-88.jpg
However the bastards turned on a dime and began flanking my husbands forces while meeting both the advanced and main army with their heavy elites. This forced my hand. I ordered my forces to blitz out and hit the flankers with all speed.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-44-09-05.jpg
The enemy general charged into the center of the main army hoping to break them. My forces got held up at the left flank, while the right flank was BARLEY held by the advance command. However in the center the enemy general's charge faltered. He soon fell from his horse and was ripped to shreds.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-45-16-78.jpg
The center of the enemy army was left WIDE open. And several bands poured into the gap.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-45-27-37.jpg
At this point the enemies left flank shattered. I figured that it was only a matter of time before the enemies right also collapsed. So most of my command, myself included, went after the routers causing incredible casualties amongst them. However the Gaulish Auxilia had among them some heavy warriors that did not break along with the rest of the left flank. These swordsmen were incredibly resilent.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-47-44-75.jpg
However they eventually broke as well. My command also charged the skirmishers that were behind the lines of the enemy. We chased far across the field. However i began to hear cries of panic from our men under my husbands command. I turned only to see many of them fleeing for their lives. I saw my husband and son trying to rally the warriors back into the fray. The men had had the Enemy elites surrounded. However the Romani elites cut their way out. I saw my husband go down under the press of the Romani. He did not get back up. I......Screamed in..agony. The men under my command turned at this point and saw what had happened. They got scared. I looked at them and told them to hold. I looked back and saw my son and two of the remaining bodyguard infantry drag my husband out from the pile of Romani. I saw them flee with the rest of his command.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-49-43-38.jpg
I turned my command around, and ordered our scattered warriors together on me.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-53-00-33.jpg
The elites went after my command before we could fully pull together. However we managed to break many of them due to the fact that half of them went after the remnants of my husbands force. However the bastard Triarii once AGAIN fought like mad dogs that needed to be put down.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-53-48-13.jpg
However put them down we finally did. After that i finally got all of our warriors left on the field together.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-54-36-26.jpg
Few Romani escaped the bloody field.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...58-59-96-1.jpg
The rest of their elite forces Were within the woods crushing some more of our warriors. However they finished them off quickly and emerged to face us.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-03-12-79.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-06-04-32.jpg
I ordered my forces forward with all speed. We had to end this battle NOW!
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-13-35-01.jpg
It ended quickly for we outnumbered them by a huge portion and their stomachs couldnt take anymore of the slaughter.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-15-26-93.jpg
It was a victory. However we had lost almost 2/3 of our forces.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-15-42-49.jpg
After it was over i ordered the other warriors to tear the bridges apart and then went back to the camp to see how my husband was doing. As i opened the tent he breathed his last. I collapsed into my son's arms, crying my heart out. It still hurts as i write this. When i find that bastard Germanicvs i WILL KILL HIM! That much i promise.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Twenty-One:To Battle (Part Two)
(From the Runic book:)
Summer 225BC
As i write these words we have concluded negotiations with the vampire lords of the Getai. It seems that we owe them a debt of honor, for they beat a Romani army that was attempting to attack us from the south through their lands. The apperence of these men-servants of the vampires is frightening. They look like normal humans. However, they have fearsome paint-patterns on their skin. The emissary told me about these patterns when i asked about them. He said that these were the marks of the vampire lords, and that every man and woman that served them had them put on at their coming of age ceremony. The patterns are a strangeblue-black color, and form into worls and spikes all over the bodies of these men.
However i digress. The Getai apperently had Romani attack their lands for no reason. It only became apperet was they were doing when they turned north after a week of pillaging. So in the time that the Romani were raiding the lands of the Getai for supplies for their campain, the getai managed to put together a large force to halt them. The two forces met at the foothills of the Iron Sky mountains ((Carpathians)). The Getai infantry formed a small ambush scenario.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-13-37-30.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-13-44-75.jpg
However their main forces were composed of Human and Vampire horse-archers, they formed up at the far right.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-13-54-61.jpg
The Romani formed up on a ridge and began to advance upon the Getai infantry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-14-03-47.jpg
However the horse-archers began to avance upon the back of the Romani forces, firing many arrows in them as they moved. This forced the Romani to turn nearly all of their army to follow them.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-16-26-17.jpg
When this happened, the Getai infantry hurtled forwards to take on the suprised Romani. And the Romani did not see what was happeneing until the infantry hit the Romani reserves. When they had cut the reserves to shreads however the main body came after them. Only the cavalry went after the horse-archers. It was their mistake for the horse-archers cut the Romani cavalry to shreads. And killed their general.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-22-28-62.jpg
However back at the infantry things were taking a turn for the worse. The main body of Romani infantry proved to be far superior to the light Getai infantry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-23-11-87.jpg
The infantry broke and the horse archers seeing this knew thatthey were next. However the managed to empty all of their quivers into the Romani broke they withdrew, causing many causalties amongst the Romani.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...4-31-40-62.jpg
The amount of bloodshed that the Romani absorbed made their campain an utter failure. They fled the Iron Sky mountains in shame. We are giving much tribute to the Getai in return for their support. I must go now and finalize the treaty.
(From the Latin book:)
Summer 225BC
Things are going according to plan. The assult on German postions on the eastern bank of the Rhine will soon begin, if it has not already. And im sure that the attack on thesouth if Germania will soon be under way. I hope Constantine managed to find a worthy commander to lead the assult. In the meanwhile i am keeping under the radar as i proceed through Germania, my Legio IX having crossed the Rhine without resistance on rafts. We have already burned the Gawjams, as the German pigs call them, of Heruskoz and Eruzsgoz. I am currently heading full speed toward the German capital. Once ive broken the center of Germania, the rest will fall like a house of mud. I must go now for there is much to do on the march.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
At this point we close the Latin book. We also see a change in the runic handwriting once again.
Chapter Twenty-Two: At the Last.
(From the Runic book:)
Spring 224BC
My name is Reliskaz. I am an apperentice of the Runic-Hand and i have been tasked to write the last entry into this codex by my master, for the White Lady is resting in a giant crystal, and we dont think she will wake up for a long, long time.
The story of how she got that way begins after the bloody battle at Wolburzoz Forest. We managed to destroy two whole legions of Romani and their Auxilia. A few days after that we recieved news that the Romani had gotten another legion across in the chaos after the battle and they were heading for the capital, Swebozaltesruz. They had already burned two large Gawjams and they were charging like lunatics for the capital, with murder and death on their minds. The capital was nearly undefended and our army was still battered from the battle that we had just fought and we had lost our leader as well. The White Lady grieved the loss of our leader, Aragisalaz, whom was her husband. But she knew her daughter was in the path of those vile dogs. So we began our own mad rush back across Germania to reach the great Gawjam before they did.
I think the Romani knew we were aftwer them at some point for their Gaulish Auxilia seprataed from the main Romani body. We formed battle lines on the main path to the capital. However the White Lady went forward under the sign of truce. The Gauls were terrified of us and just wanted the fighting to be over so they could go home. We told them that if they did not harm anymore Germans we would let them pass without bloodshed. Their commander told us that the Romani had other armies in the area and that they wouldnt be let past them. We then told them of the battle that had just taken place. The Gauls were overjoyed to hear this for those legions were what was stopping them from going home. We also let them the weapons of the fallen and told them to go and defend their homes from the Romani. They gladly agreed.
With the Auxilia out of the way we made excellent time to the capital. However when we got there the Romani had already captured most of the great Gawjam. Only the main Hall remained in our hands. When the Romani saw our army approach they started cursing and yelling ill fortune upon us. They locked all of the gates against us. So we began to besiege our own capital.
As the lines were drawn up the enemy commander march out onto the walls of the settlement, dragging a young girl behind him. We looked again and realised it was Methenalasa, The White Lady's daughter. The vile bastard held the girl out over precipise of the walls. Then he called to the White Lady. I will record the conversation here.
"So, here we are again.", the enemy commander said. The White Lady said,"Germanicvs PLEASE, please dont kill my daugther. If you have any shread of humanity left in you you will let her go." At this Germanicvs laughed. "And why would i do that you filthy whore? Soon my other legions will arrive and you will be crushed.",he said. "No Germanicvs they wont be coming. I have seen to that.", the Lady said. She then ordered a man to bring forth the two Eagles that we had captured. He flung them to the base of the wall. Germanicvs looked at them and became enraged. His grip on the girl tighten to the point that he was strangling her. The Lady screamed at him to stop it. "GERMANICVS!!!! I will give you one warning let her go and leave these lands. If you do i will give you back these Eagles and let you go home in peace, for your invasion has failed." At this Germanicvs laughed and said,"My dear bitch, it is the destiny of Roma to rule the world. My invasion has not failed only suffered a minor setback. Soon you will all be crushed. And i will make sure to take "Special" treatment with you." "You are a fool Germanicvs. If you follow this course of action to it conclusion then you will do naught but die a horrible death.",the Lady said. Germanicvs laughed again. The Lady said, "Last chance Germanicvs. LET...HER...GO!!!!" Germanicvs looked at the poor girl, then back at the Lady and said,"As you wish." Then he dropped her. The girl screamed, as did the Lady. However several of the Runic-Hand members used their magic to slow the girls fall so she could land safely. Germanicvs became enraged at this point grabbed a javelin and threw it at her, then offered an entire provincd to the man that could bring Methenalasa down. However the Lady had recovered from her near apoplexy and used her magic to shield the girl, and told her to run away from the walls. The girl did just that, blindly stumbling and running from javelins, arrows and even a balista. When she got back to our lines she hugged her mother tight. After the embrace the Lady looked back up at Germanicvs. He was livid, so incredibly angry that his fun or whatever he was trying to accomplish escaped him that he killed several of his own men.
The Lady then ordered the siege to commence.
She went to the siege tower that the Romani had left behind.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-09-41-08.jpg
While our commander, Jurgowulfaz, whom was also her son, grabbed the leftover siege ladders.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-13-45-28.jpg
It didnt take us long to recover the walls from the vile dogs. When Germancvs saw this he ordered his men to advance upon our postions on the inside of the wall....
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-15-00-10.jpg
...while he fled for the center.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-15-05-21.jpg
We easliy dispatched the poor dog fools that he sicked upon us. Even the commander was doing well, he cleared quite a few maniples off of the north wall.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-26-28-79.jpg
After he had cleared the Romani off, both of our commands marched off to the center to end this war once and for all. For Germanicvs was the one whom began this, and with his death it would end, at long last, we prayed, it would end.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-32-37-80.jpg
We got up to the top of the hill and there, on his horse, surronded by bodyguards, was Germanicvs.
He looked at us, then spoke to the Lady.
"You are a fool, little bitch for, i WILL have my revenge.", he said. Then he hurtled his cavalry forward, into our ranks.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-37-31-16.jpg
He went for the Lady as best as he could but we would not let that monster touch her. "He then saw the commander and immediatly went for him. The commander and Germanicvs went at it in a duel. The circle opened and the two fought a hard battle. However we though it was over when Jurgowulfaz managed to knock the filthy bastard off of his horse. However he rose with surprising speed, drew his sword again and managed to take our commander down. He then had his remani bodyguard watch his back as he drug our commander back behind his wall of Triariielite that was in the square. He then called upon a man in a black cloak. It took me a moment to realise that this was a Romani seer. Its not everyday, or even every lifetime that you encounter one of these men. However encounter him we did. Germanicvs then turned to the Lady and said,"Now then watch, WATCHAND DESPAIR AS I DID!!!!!, you filthy whore." He then commanded the seer to destroy Jurgowulfaz.
The Lady immediatly turned all of her magic to fighting of the demon's attempt to destroy her son. However the dog was very good at what he did, and managed to set the poor boys skin ablaze in black flames. Then Germanicvs started laughing, laughing like a demon possesed. Our commander was only a boy not even 15 winters old but, he was being ripped apart and spat on. He started to scream, and all Germanicvs did was watch with a pleased smile upon his foul face. Then the Lady finally began to counter the foul magics and the Demon at Germanicvs's back. Seeing this Germanicvs became enraged and said,"NO I WILL NOT BE DENIDE MY REVENGE!!!" He then drew his sword and sliced the boy's head off. Seeing this the Lady went abosolutely berserk. She started screaming and crying, and said, "First my father, then my husband, and now my SON?!!? I WILL KILL YOU!!!" She then absorbed an amount of magic i though impossible and hurled even single last ounce of it she could at Germanicvs with a roar of "DIE BASTARD!!!" on her lips. When it hit him there wasnt even any dust left behind.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-39-21-33.jpg
And with that Germanicvs, the bane of Germans everywhere, died.
After that the remaining Romani tried to surrender but the Lady obliterated them in her rage. However she absorbed so much magic that it began crystalize around her form. She lay down and said, "Tell my daughter that i will be...fine, and that i ...am..so... sorry." And with that the crystal encased her and she was gone. We retook the capital, but at an unbalieveable cost. The Lady stayed in the crystal for nearly a month before the All-Thing could figure out what to do with her. And it was the Elven council that came up with the final solution. We sent her to the Dwarves to see if they could get her out of there. It took them nearly a month to figure out that all they could do was smooth out the crystal so that we could gaze upon her. It turned out that she was still alive. However, she was in an incredibly deep sleep. We prayed to Odin for guidance. The vision that we recieved was that her time amongst this gereration was over and that someday in the future she would reawaken to save our people once again.
And thus the war finally ended. We recovered all of the parts of Germania that the Romani taken had control over and have begun rebuilding them. The Auxilia that we had lent weapons to, well on their return to Gaul they incited a mass revolt upon most of northern Gaul. The Romani Senate had to beg for peace so they could put the revolt down before it spread into the remaining Gauls of southern Gaul and threaten the Romani settlers there. We managed to lose the northern alps during the war but we are now using the Danube in its entirety to block the foul Romani. However we are devastated by the losses that we have encountered. I can only hope that the wars dont come again for a long, LONG while.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Well i have finally decided to continue the story here rather than try to move it to another part of the forum. However the timing set requires the game to be BI rather than EB due to the fact that we move forward to the Age of Migrations, about 500+ years. So without further ado, i present....
ACT 2: The Times of Chaos
"Ok, ok, please settle down now little ones, settle down.", the old man says to his grandchildren. As he sits in his big chair by the fire, his two grandchildren settle in as well and he opens the next book up.
Chapter One:A Great Tale
(The handwriting is in runic, abiet a more modern form than the previous book.)
Autumn 354AD
My name is Aioulfuz. I am writing this journal due to my recent appointment by the High King as one of his Jarls and his appointment of me as the Great Historian of our people, the first we have had since the Lady. Too many bards are corrupting the history of our people, so the High King has decided to ordain a new Historian.
My father was the Jarl of the Danmarr ((Denmark area)). However he died last year due to a duel that he lost after he slept with one too many wife that wasnt his. But what can i do. To be honest im lucky that the All-Thing approved me to the position after what my foolish father did and the way he died.
However that is not what this Codex is for is it? No i must write about what has happened since the end of the War of the Bane. Since the recapture of the capital at the end of the war, Germania has prospered. The size of our lands has not increased very much, due to the fact that on one side we are surrounded by the Twin Empires of Rome, and on the other tribes of nomads, centaurs, vampire slaves, Slavs, Balts, and evem some women warriors that call themselves Amazons that seek to overthrow our lands and take our women, children and freedom. The lands that we possess are not as good as they once were either, due to our prosperity having increased our numbers beyond what even the vast tracts of land that we have can produce. There are many Things that would love to try and conquer the world or try and take lands from the peoples around us. Many of the old tribes have also fallen away, with new ones replacing them. All of these people owe their loyalty and power to the All-Thing and High King. However there are many amongst the newer tribes that wish to take what has belong to other tribes since we became a single people, including the High Kings throne. In the recent past there have been several attepmts on the lives of five previous High Kings. And noone is really happy anymore with the current High Family. The blood of Ansuharjaz the Mighty has indeed fallen far from what it once was. The High King Asrhuz, the Pig as some call him, marrying his daughter after his wife died is but one example of this. Our current High King Harmazez seems to be far more stable than most of the recent ones however. I hope he can bring the glories of old back to our proud people. The Runic-Hand continues as it always has, helping the Free People and awaiting a sign that the Lady would one day awaken again. No such sign has come as of yet. But we keep waiting.
In the world outside Germania, Rome has gained more and more power. Aftert their defeat in the War of the Bane, they stopped trying to take us on. Instead they focused on rebuilding. It took them almost 50 winters to put down all of the rebellions, repopulate the territories and they had to reform their ENTIRE army into a far more effective machine of war and death to do so. For a while we thought that we would be attacked once again. However they moved on to what they considered easier targets. After the end of the rebellions their first target was the Arche Eporoitus, which due to the ineptittude of Alexandra's successors had fallen into near constant civil war and near ruin. It took them a scant 20 winters to bring the whole thing crashing down. The Greek peoples were enslaved and sufficently passified as to not want anymore war against Rome. Then amries of Rome then turned on Syria and the rest of Asia Mikra taking them from the Haydisan and Akkadians. In fact the Haydisani people were so beaten by the war that they surrendered their freedom to the Roman bastards. The Akkadians had far more luck while they did lose Syria they manage to stop the Roman advance at the west bank of the Euphrates. The border has stood there ever since. The final target of Rome need for conquest was Egypt. In the year 79BC Rome invaded Egypt in spite of previous agreements to keep them as a client state. The kingdom, which had been weaken by years of infighting, confusing royal marriages and the empowerment of the minor landholders, was quickly destroyed. However, their Empire had grow incredibly large. The Senate which hey had started out under has become increasingly weak and ignored. The power had passed to the generals of the army and other powerful landowners. This increasing weakness within the worlds largest empire caused many of the leading generals to fight for the powers that came with total rule. This resulted in the Civil Wars. The first general to try and rule it all was a man called Gauis Marius, the same man wh reformed the Roman army. He held the reigns of powers for barley 5 winters before he was challenged by a man called Sulla in the year 177BC. The much older Marius was easily overthrow by the vigorous Sulla. The man managed to hold on much longer due to the fact that he passed laws forbidding other generals from challenging him. The other generals banded together to overthrow him in 152BC, then began to fight amongst themselves. This patterned continued until 70BC when three Generals formed the Grand Triumvirate to rule Rome together. They were Regius Gallus, Gaius Julius, and Destius Magna. Thigns began to improve until Regius tried to take all of Akkadia. During that campaign he was killed. The two remaining Generals began a great Civil War to take control after that. The fighting between them continued until Destius was killed in a battle against Gaius in Greece. After that Gaius managed to untie the empire for the first time in a long while. However he was murdered in cold blood by a group of people still loyal to the Senate. This sparked off the final civil war. Gaius's adopted son Octavian came out on top at last. He was renamed Augustus for this feat. His fist act was to empower the throne he sat upon and passed many different laws that helped the soldiers and the common people, thus winning his throne the stability that was nessasary for it to survive. With his reign became what has come to be known as the Pax Romanum. His reign also eliminated the last vestiges of magic in the Roman world, for he did not trust it at all the powers that it gave to people. After his death his family took control of the empire. They were for the most part good emperors, however there were several bad ones as well, for all of that power in one mans hands is incredibly corrupting. The last of the Augustan line was a demon named Nero, whom ate the flesh of slave children, burned the city of Rome and played the lire while watching, and even had the people of his empire give almost all of their money so he could build himself a house of gold. He was deposed by a general whom became emperor. His name was Vespasian. The pattern has continued for a long time now. The only real conquest that they have made after Augustus was the Invasion of the Britons. It was a smashing success. The only thing that stopped them were the northern and western montains.
The empire itself continued on for a long while. In the West Roman culture became the standard. However the far more established cultures of the Eastern half of the empire did not really mix with the Roman culture that had been introduced to them. If anything it only reinforced the greek and semetic cultures that always existed there. The big change came after the rule of the Five Good Emperors. The last of them had a son whom was crowned in 296AD. This man was an utter fool. He managed to undo many of the works that kept the empire united. His death caused the first civil war in centuries. The next sets of emperors were uneducated men that have risen from military backgrounds. Taxes became weak, soldier riots have become common all over both empires. The final split among the Roman world came after the death of the emperor Julian the Apostate. He is so named that he tried to reverse the spread of a reigion called Christianity. The religion preaches the exisistance of only one god. It started as an oppresed cult until the regin of Constantine Magna has spread through much of the empire like wildfire, Most of the east is Christian. Only in the west are there large holdouts of "pagans" as the non-Christians have come to be known and these shirnk everyday. The fools have even tried to overthrow the High Gods in our lands. However they have met with little success. Anyways he was the last man able to hold the Greek East and the Roman West together. After his death they spilt into two empires, the Eastern Roman empire, centered at Constatinople and the Western Roman empire, centered at Rome. Of the two the East is far more powerful and stable but the West is more culturally unified and has more lands to tax and such. We will see if in the end who will win out.
Out on the steppes there is an evil brewing that i dont think this world has ever seen before. Many of the nomads and centaur are fleeing further and further west with each coming winter. There are rumors at the High Kings court that demons have exploded out of the Great Pits of Hel herself and trying to kill all mortals. The Runic-Hand seesrs do not deny this. I think the recent inter-tribal conflicts that have been slowly consuming Germania are a side-effect of this. I can only hope the High King can solve this before things become too troublesome, or before this nation breaks apart.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Two: Tensions
Spring 359AD
It has been at least five winters since i was given this appointment. I have faithfully recorded what few events have happened within Germania, mostly more tensions and political ploys. However i have noticed a disturbing set of occurences within my Jarldom as of late. A tribes that is called the Saxonz has been migrating in en-masse for nearly 50 winters and have recently started to try and take my Jarldom from me, in abiet subtle terms. For instance there have been four attempts on my life, three to try and prove me unfaithful to my marriage, and even one attempt on my wife's life. This is getting more and more out of hand.
I am also finding evidence that there may be more than meets the eye when looking at these Saxon bastards. We have already discovered five weapons caches out in the swamps that do not belong to me or my Karls. This is not a good sign at all.
Across Germania there are other stories like mine. On the Rhine Jarldoms two tribes, the Franx and the Alemannez are fighting each other for the right to hold all of it. The fighting is small-scale, but even so it is a troubling sign of things to come. In the eastern Jarldoms a tribal called the Subiez fled Germania for the steppes almost a hundred winters ago. However they have begun to return and try to conquer us. Battles have sprung up all along the Wesser river. However for the moment they are small. I can only hope that we can reason with these fools, for i would hate to have to crush my kin, no matter how badly corrupted they have become.
Autumn 359AD
I have been forced to call upon royal troops to help keep order within my Jarldom. Last week there was a full-scale riot in the streets of Gawjam-Arhus. The causes were the people were hungry once again. I give them what food i can after i pay the tributes to the High King, but its still not enough. In the Gawjam-Stockozaz there are food riots too. But my brother Jarl must deal with those himself. I have been trying to find the cause of the food shortages, because i know that we are able to produce enough food for both the tax AND feed my people, abiet without any surplus. However my inquires have been stalled by obstinant Saxon officials. Its frustrating, especially the way they speak. Some of their words dont even sound German, at least to me. But its not my place to start throwing such accusations about, not if i dont want to start a war at a time that we NEED to be united.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Three: High Treason
Spring 360AD
It has finally happened. Three weeks ago there was an attepmt on the High Kings life. Even though it failed many tribes have taken this as a sign of the king's weakness, and that he is unfit to rule. As a result of these events some of the tribes have started to revolt. The main aggresors are the Langozbarad, Alemannez, and Frizez Tribes. I fear the Saxonz may soon join them. The only tribes we are sure of are the Semmonzez, Swebozez, Franx, Macromannez and Gauts. The Silengoz, and Skandza wish to remain out of this conflict for their lands are fine, as they put it. I fear that it will not remain that way for them for very long if this keeps up. I accompanied the High king with what warriors remained loyal to me. We met the first of the rebel Jarls about five days ago. The King's warband assumed its standard defensive postion. It was assembled in no time, even the shield wheel was ready quickly. That is not something easily done.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-20-14-57.jpg
The nature of warfare in our day and age has become VERY different from what it was nearly 400 years ago. Back then cavalry was for fools and idiots. The sword was an impossible weapon to get at without being rich. You were luck to get a sharpened stick that passed for a "spear". However almost 100 winters ago the nomads of the steppes introduced us to an new invention called the stirrup. This allows the men on horseback to be FAR more stable and flexible on their mounts. This opens up the possiblity of DEVASTATING cavalry charges, which have become the norm amongst most armies of Germania, and even the Eastern Roman Empire appercitaes the new power of horsemen, even though they still use the legion format as their main tactic. The Western Roman Empire considers this great invention to be worthless. Only their mercenaries use it at all. But i digress, dont i?
The Langozbaradez began a madden rush towards us.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-20-27-86.jpg
However soon we began to hear strange noises coming from the enemy ranks. Then one of the scouts cried out in fear. I looked at what he was pointing at and almost threw up in horror. I saws something that had only been described in nightmares. Men turned into blood-drunk dogs of death and pain, their souls taken from them, in exchange for unbalieveable power and rage. They wore not but skins of wild animals, and were armed with gigantic swords that ordinary men could not even dream of holding. They could not longer speak but instead howled like rabid wolves and dogs. And their eyes.... their eyes had become pure black with hatered and rage. These men had become Ulfkinz ((Beast-Men)).
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-26-36-88.jpg
I could only look upon them with pity, for no man, no matter how evil he was, no human deserved such a horrible fate as that.
However soon the battle was joined. The first blood was drawn by the cavalry that i was a part of. The High King lead us into the thick of the fray. On his noble charger the King hit the first of the enemy that day. It was a clean kill, a good sign. The band we hit melted away like the great ice of the north upon the coming of summer. So did a few other after that. However then the Ulfkinz spotted us. They began to howl in rage and pain, and hurtled after us like mad dogs. We knew that if we got too close the would tear us and our horses to shreads. So we tore out of there. The poor bastards followed us.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-22-05-63.jpg
The main lines finally joined up. And the first great problem was that the Housekarls of the Langozbarad Jarl began to cut a hole in our line forcing our Runic-Hand members into the fray, swords aflame, and battle cries upon their lips. Even the elven warriors fought like mad-men. It was barley enough.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-23-11-52.jpg
The idiot then decided that it would be a good idea to attack our Dugundiz head on. It didnt end well for him. He filped off of his horse and onto the spears of a few of the interlocked Dugundiz. This didnt even cause his army to faulter. They kept up the attack, if anything they began to fight EVEN HARDER. All the while the Ulfkinz kept after us. However we ran back thorugh some trees to get back in the fight and surround his remaining warriors. However wwe encountered another unit of our Dugundiz in the woods. We yelled for them to flee, but they didnt understand us over the roar of battle. It was too late for them to flee when they finally saw the Ulfkinz coming RIGHT at them. They made ready as best as they could. I turned around to watch and prayed for the men that were back there. What i saw next horrified me. It appeared as if the Ulfkinz ATE the band of men.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-24-52-20.jpg
At that point i leaned over on my horse and threw up in horror. However at the main line the battle had swung fully in our favor. And the Royal archers had finally been freed from combat. The High king told the archers to fire upon the Ulfkinz. For the beasts wore no armor for it would only get in the way of their animalistic rage, nor did they have shields for they knew nothing of protecting themselves. The archers made incredibly quick work of the beasts. Then i saw an explosion of black fire from among the beasts, and they stopped dead in their tracks, looking confused. I realsied that the Demon that was empowering their rage had been killed. As soon as the beasts saw us they fled like rabbits. The archers did not stop firing. We put them all out of their misery.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-27-46-63.jpg
And, somehow, much of the army survived the slaughter.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-27-27-17.jpg
It was a victory.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-28-06-92.jpg
The next day we made it to the camp of the foe. The retribution that the High King ordered was BRUTAL. He ordered them to be strung up and pulled apart. Other were cut to pieces to feed the dogs. The women and children were just outright slaughtered. But it was also nessassary. This kind of treatment will prevent future revolts from occuring. Im just so sorry that we have to do this to our own people. It so different from the days of goodness and plenty amongst our people, when the land was plentiful and the earth bountiful. Now it just seems as if theres never enough to go around.
I can only hope that we can take care of the other tribes before this gets out of hand. The Western Romans, in spite of the religous unrest within their Empire will GLADLY take lands from us, for no Roman has ever forgiven Germania for the War of the Bane. The Eastern Romans are too busy trying to contain the Akkadian Empire, the Haydisan; whom have also converted to Chirstanity, and a new Empire that has overthorw most of the old Parthian one. They call themselves the Sassanid Persians. They are made up of some of the old Iranian tribes of the highlands. The people also believe in a single God, He is the fire God, Ahura Mazad. These people have become a titanic force in their own right, having taken lands up to the Oxus river and all the way up to the Fertile Cresent, where they fight the Akkadians, abiet unsuccessfully. We shall have to wait and see what happens i suppose.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Four:Civil War
Summer 362AD
Unfortunately we have not been able to contain the rising chaos within Germania. Civil War has broken out. To be honest i think we might be in for a long war. While the revolt within my Jarldom was swiftly suppressed when the rest of Germania heard about what had happened to the Langozbaradaz, several tribes that we though loyal either changed sides or outright fled the Kingdom. The Gauts, and the Alemannez have fled while the Macromannez have revolted against us. The Saxonz that were within my Jarldom fled for the coasts to get upon boats that their Frizez breatheren had provided for them. I tried to halt the Saxonz as they fled for their boats with what troops i had.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...7-13-35-06.jpg
However even after a forced march we only managed to catch one of their armies on the way to their ships. And they got very close before we could deploy. As soon as they spotted us, they picked up the pace in a Hel of a hurry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...7-13-41-83.jpg
We only managed to catch a few of their bands with the royal cavalry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...7-14-01-56.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...7-14-32-93.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...7-15-52-64.jpg
What we did catch we tore to shreads. However far more of them got away due to the slowness of the infantry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...7-14-22-18.jpg
The High King was most displeased at the news that these Saxonz and Frizez Dogs could still threaten Germania. He delcared all of the tribes that had fled to be no longer Germans, due to their treachery and loss of faith. The loss of these tribes had weakened our kingdom, for we are that many troops shorter than we were before this whole mess started. And the steppe peoples are coming closer and closer by the year. We can only hope that things will improve with each victory we score.
Winter 362AD
Well i think that we are getting closer to ending this foul conflict. The Macromannez have suffered several defeats at the royal armies' hands. The Saxonz and Frizez have left for good, heading for the old Roman province of Britannia. The province had been abandoned by the Romans after a civil war forced the emperor Constantine to pull those troops out to defend his rule and the Empire. In the time since they left almost 30 winters ago the celts of the north and west of the great isle have been pillaging non-stop against the former Romanic Britons. The weakened Britons cannot fight them off alone. I heard rumors of them hiring the Saxonz and Frizez to fight the celts for them. The fools have let a wolf into their den so that they can be protected from a rabid dog. Well they will learnt the error of their ways soon enough.
Meanwhile, the Gauts fled south, away from Germania and Gotland Isle. They have been fleeing for months now. I can only hope they find what they need beyond the borders of Germania, for they will never be welcomed back here. The Alemannez have invaded the Western Roman Empire, in what many even here consider a foolish move, they are trying to overrun Rome and hold it for ransom. However an elite Roman legion, the Legio V i think is currently fighting them in the Po valley. We will have to see how that goes for the poor fools.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Very good chapters:2thumbsup:.
Just one question: is there a faction in BI that has a similar banner to the Sweboz or did you change that? I've only played BI a little so I don't know what factions there are.
-
Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
The Burgundii have the similar banners to teh Sweboz thats why i picked them to be the royal armies
-
Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
I like the fact that you even use different game versions (EB, BI etc) to tell your story. Its sad that your save games were broken (use ALX.exe!)... but its great that you didn't give up.
I have one suggestion for you: Use the campaign map pictures you can get on the main page and color the different provinces in the coresponding faction colors. That way you can give us a good image of how the campaign map would look like (at least the world map).
I admit that I didn't read too much of your story yet, only the latest chapters, so I'm still a little bit confused about the time jumps ;) I have to start the story from page 1 I guess :D
-
Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
@ PriestLizard: Well TY for ur support.:2thumbsup: Also i really could not follow my five year a post rule after the first chapter due to the fact that i had so many plot lines that i am trying to fill.
Firstly, Yes i AM using mutiple TW games to tell this story. I WOULD have started with Vanilla RTW for the first part, but Vanilla is not nearly accurate enough to allow me to introduce several story elements, like magic, mythological creatures, and others that i cannot reveal as of yet.
Secondly a little TW background about me. I have played nearly ALL of the TW games, starting with STW and the Mongol Expansion pack. I beat like four factions and even Managed to BARELY hold off the mongols in that campaign. MTW i did not have too much interaction with, due to too many comp upgrades making the game stop working. And no i did not get it either, i mean UPGRADING your graphics card, ect makes a game NOT WORK?!?! Ah oh well. When RTW came out i got it for Christmas. I stayed up for six days straight playing it when i first got it. Even now it my fav of all TW games, Especially with BI expansion, because in my opinion the WRE is the most realsitic faction that CA ever produced. Never did manage to find Alexander :furious3::furious3:. M2TW was a good improvment on the engine, however i have thought it too bland, for once youve played one Catholic faction youve played them all, same for muslims and others. However i did have one of my best campaigns as the HRE when i took over Western Europe and the Americas. Kingdoms......that was pretty good. Especially the Lithuanais(Teutonic) and the Norse(Britannia). Oh and beating the piss out of the mongols as Antioch...SOOOOO fun!!!!!!!! Even now i await Empire, and i WILL be doing the intro so that i can understand it better, with its fancy new engine and all, (STW/MTW------>RTW converstion all over again anyone?)

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
@ PriestLizard I would be more tha happy to find such a map to put at the end of all my posts, i just gotta find the Damn thing first :help: and figure out how to use it. This would make describing my Story FAR more easier. Ill will have to go looking.
EDIT: I havent found the map, could someone plz tell me were on the main site i can DL it at and how i am supposed to color it????

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Five:Happenings
Spring 363AD
There has been a great battle south of the Po, between the Alemannez and the Romans. Nearly two whole hordes of them have been crushed. The battle itself was short but brutal, or so our spies report.
It began when the Roman Legio V took up postions south of the great river Po. This effectively blocked the Alemannez from Rome, their final target. The Alemannez tried to push them aside with skirmishers but to no avail.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-36-19-00.jpg
However both hordes arrived VERY quickly after that so the battle was joined.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-26-23-35.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-26-31-71.jpg
The first move by the Roman commander was an odd one. He himself ordered his CAVALRY forward. Of course these men were mostly steppe horsemen under the thumb of Rome, so it may not be surprising as we think it is.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-27-13-56.jpg
They horsemen began to harrass and attack the rear elements of the Alemannez Hordes. This caused many Alemannez to break off their attack and go after the Romans that meanced the camp and their wives and possessions. This was a bad mistake, for had they attacked the main Roman line they probably could have overwhelmed them. However as it was, all they could do was a solid hit on the Roman right. They even tried to get a band of dugundiz past the Romans to hit them in their rear. However there were woods behind the Roman right that hid several bands of archers, whom promptly opened fire upon this poor band. They broke almost immedaitely under the intense fire.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-37-40-70.jpg
However the left of the Alemannez line had managed to break a large portion of the Roman cavalry, the General had to flee back to his lines, with the Alemannez hard on his heels. Thusly the Alemannez began to hurl into the Roman lines of the left as well. However the left held handily, even against the housekarls of the Alemannez. The right had fallen back in dissary after the failure to flank the Romans.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-39-11-17.jpg
However the Jarl of that army managed to rally many of his men for another charge. I did him little good for when his cavalry chagred he was one of the first to die. This threw the Alemannez into a panic. The Roman general saw this and order his men to break formation and crush the foolish Alemannez. It was a resounding success.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...6-40-50-60.jpg
The Roman victory was total. To think that the armed men of Germania have fallen THIS far from the day of the War of the Bane is a sad, sad sight.
The remaining Alemannez warbands have fled from the Po, heading east. It appears that the Eastern Empire will soon have some company. I hope that they obliterate those fools, for men whom lose like THAT do not deserve to live amongst the great peoples of this world.
Winter 363AD
The attacks against the eastern borders of our kingdom have become increasingly violent and much more numerous over the past year. The Subiez are getting more and more desperate to get off of the steppes. More rumors of evils out on the steppes have reached the ears of the court. I heard tell of tribal witches that were forced out of their tents were forcible made to mate with demon out on the steppes, and of this union were born half-men, beasts that live their whole lives in the saddle, even mating and giving birth in it, and not being able to walk. Their faces are horned and twisted by demons magics. And they are excellent shots with a bow, even from horseback. What agents that we could send out have not reported back when they were supposed to and havent been heard from since. These stories have everyone terrified, even the High King is worried, even though he does not show it. The Gauts are still feeling south and we hear tell of many unsuccessful Subiez following them rather than attacking us. I can only hope this trend continues because it will make things easier on one front of ours.
The Alemannez, meanwhile, are currently raiding the northern provices of the Eastern Empire, and are moving into the lands of the Vampire lords of the Getai. Why they are making such a move i do not know. The Vampire lords have proven stronger than the Romans even. So why would someone whom loses to Roman try to attack those CLEARLY better than them? This i cannot say. However there is nothing i can do about it either. So for now we must watch and wait.

The maps: https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_artwork.html
Edit them with a good image program, like Photoshop. I personally use GIMP ( http://www.gimp.org ) as its basically the same as photoshop but totally free (gnu license). ~:)

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
OK i got the antique map and imager, but it wont let me get the plain map to paintfill with which im sure will be 500x's faster an more accurate.
-
Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Umm how do i play with the colors im GIMP??
The colors it gives me are way too dark and many of them get spammed into the same color(grey). How do i fix it to where i can get bright reds, blues, GREEN to #@#@%$#@ing work???
-
Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Well this is as close as i can get GIMP to give me good colors.
The current map as of 363AD
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...deserts3bi.gif
The "Red" that is in Western Europe is the WRE
The darker blue in Grecce, Egypt, Asia Minor and Syria is the ERE
The "Green" above the WRE is Germania
The black in Britain are the Saxon conquests
The iron grey are the conquests of the Huns
The cyan blue is the Akkadian Empire ((Same color as teh oceans))
The white is the Sassanid Empire
The brown is Haydisania ((Armenia))
The yellow above the ERE is Gaetia
PLZ disreguard the yellow in the Sahara/Arabia for those are desert markers, it came with the map

Nice! ~:)
Great to see that you've made it. Ahh.. cool... now I get a good imagination... :egypt:

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Nice map:smiley:. Good to finally see how the world looks.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
I got the same problem with you at first, mate. I'm using Paint to... well... paint the map to my preferences and got the same colors as you. I found out that by using 'Freehand Painting' in Microsoft Picture! It (a program I use) and placing stamps of different colors (like red and green that are not displayed with Paint), I can open the map with Paint and by using the 'Select Color' tool on the stamps then 'Fill' on the region I want to recolor makes it the color of the stamp. Here is an example from some 'work' of mine:
https://img68.imageshack.us/img68/2346/ebmapcv2.gif
I think it's pretty onvious as who's who, with the exception of the light blue color in Illyria. That's Epeiros moved over, renamed and recolored as an Illyrian faction. The pic is from my ongoing AAR, by the way.
Maion
P.S.: Unfortunately, your rapid pace has left me far behind in terms of reading, so I've lost most of your AAR by now:sweatdrop: I'll read it sometime though, when I find some time. Maybe even on Christmas Holidays.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Is it just me Maion or do u have a thing for killing Eporoites?
Also i will try to apply ur method to my next map. Thx

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Six: The Evils of Hell.......
Spring 364AD
We have finally comfirmed the evils that so many have been speaking of over the past years. There are a set of tribes under the rule of a people that call themselves 'Huns' out on the steppes. Through force of will and blade they have crushed the souls out of the former steppe peoples. The Centaur have been overthrown and enslaved, many tribes of Slavs have fallen under their sway, the Alans have been crushed, and as for the Pontos Euxine Greeks and the Sauromete slaves of the Centaur, well..... lets just say that they didnt survive. Even those fierce warrior women have been forced to flee to the great forests north of the steppes to escape the vile Huns. Reports come to us sparsely for they kill all that oppose them in their paths. But what we hear is nigh demonic in nature. The Huns tear their victims apart piece by blood-soaked piece. They give the strongest of their victims males to thier weakest women, in order to breed a stronger blood back into them. They make mountains of heads and worship evil sprits upon them. They bring down demons from the blackened air around these mountains of death to serve in their armies, or as they term them, Hordu. They raise the dead to serve them as slaves and as fodder. They practice waerlinga magic freely as if they were the most normal thing in the world. While the stories of them never leaving their saddles is false, many Hunnic women dont know how to walk, forcing them to ride or be carried around their whole lives.
Stories like these are all that we can get out of the shattred survivors that we encounter at our borders. Many of the die after they retell these horrors, as if killed by the memories. The High King has called all of the warriors together, the Eastern borders have been strenghtened and we have also begun moving refgees into the less populated areas of Germania, they should provide a workforce to replace the one that is being levied for the upcoming invasion that the High King and everyone else is sure that will soon come. The Polish tribes, desendants of Slavic tribes that settled there, to the east are still squbbling with each other over territories, all the while the Hunnic threat comes ever closer. They are fools, for if they are not united they will die and nothing can stop it. With the resent civil war over those that remain with us are totally loyal to the current High King. The rebel tribes that fled are still running, and trying to take lands from the dying Twin Empires. All of this should not be happeneing, we need to be united against the Huns before they get here, else one at a time, we will die. The monsters will arrive soon enough, i can only pray that we are ready.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Seven:....arise from the pits. (Part One)
Autumn 364AD
We have had spies witness first hand the CHAOS of the Huns, for they have invaded the lands of the Poles. The first great battle happened three weeks ago. The slaughter was unbalieveable.
The Hunnic army is made up of mostly cavalry,
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-13-14-23.jpg
What little infantry they have is mostly made up of slaves. However they deploy as if the slaves must take the brunt of the enemy, so that their cavalry can destroy their enemies.
They also enjoy ambushes, in this case it was a two set ambush, one flanking force out in the open the other hidden, mainly cavalry archers, to spring a horrific surprise upon their foes the poor Polish forces.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-13-25-45.jpg
The Polish formed their battle line, made mostly of infantry, and prepaed to charge.
However it was the Huns whom charged first, the scout that saw the battle told us. This is a shock, but with the amount of cavalry that make up their armies it should be no real surprise that this is how they fight. The charge was devastating to the Polish cavalry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-14-21-01.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-14-37-56.jpg
They also charged head on into a unit of Polish spearmen. None of the spearmen were left alive afterwards. The Huns then turned upon the Polish archers and wiped them out as if they did not exist. At this point the Hunnic horse archers deployed on the Hunnic left. The scout then described that it appeared to rain on the Poles, however when the rain fell, people died in its wake.
Some of the Poles that had been surrounded by the Hunnic cavalry formed a shield wheel.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-16-26-23.jpg
However this caused the Huns to turn their bows upon the poor fools. The Polish warlord tried to save the spearmen. All that did was get him killed by the now unstoppable Hunnic cavalry.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-16-37-36.jpg
The morale of much of the Polish army broke at this point and the infantry hadnt even engaged YET!!!!!!
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-18-59-66.jpg
However there was a set of superior spearmen that the over confident Huns did not count on. These spear formed up and managed to halt the Hunnic cavalry in its tracks. However the Huns that had been stopped simply broke off and fled behind the lines to regroup, most of their horses too tired too keep giong after having broken half the Polish army. It was then that the pitiful Hunnic infantry moved forward. What was left of the Polish army attack this force hoping to break it before the Hunnic cavalry could reform and rest. However it was then that the cavalry that had been waiting in the woods sprung the trap. The heavy Polish spears were winning against the pitiful Hunnic infantry at a surprisng speed.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-19-33-49.jpg
However in seconds it was all over. The Hunnic ambush cavalry and the Horse archers moved in for the kill of the now pinned down heavy spearmen, which in our scouts opinion had been the only real threat to the Huns all along. The charge shattered the whole rest of the Polish army. Even the Hunnic Warlord, whom had been sitting back and watching the fight joined in at this point so he could make his bravery claims and such back at camp i guess.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-19-39-62.jpg
The victory was total. The battle lasted barley an hour and 1/4th of the Polish "army" had been wiped out in a single stroke.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-20-08-77.jpg
The only real losses had been among the pathetic Hunnic infantry that had been bulled into the fight.
After the fighting ended our scout left for the Huns searched for survivors. He was lucky to escape with his life. The women and children of the Polish villages that that army protected were ripped to shreads and all of the heads were put into one of the Black Altars that they worship their demons at. Several of the tribes of Poles have tried to surrender but the Huns would never allow such weaklings into their great empire, as they put it. The emmisaries have not been seen since the meetings and only on of theirservants managed to escape with the message that that Huns gave to Europe. It was simply this, "Prepare to die, for if you cannot best us in even the simplest of battles you deserve no better than the fate of dogs and pit spawn." The servant then up and died from shock and organ failure.
Many at court are fightened at this turn of events for we WILL be next once Poland is destroyed. I can only pray to the High Gods that we do not suffer the same fate as them.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Seven: .......arise from the pits. (Part Two)
Winter 366AD
The news coming out of Poland is making me sicker and sicker everyday. Several hundred more villages have been obliterated. The Poles cant fight this anymore for decades of in-fighting have destroyed any ability to resist that was left in the Poles. News of what happened in Poland has scared the life right out of many tribes and other peoples in the area. Even the Twin Empires are afraid of what is brewing out on the steppes. However they continue their indifferent policies as i the destruction of the Poles did not occur. However the tribes just beyond their borders have started a mass invasion in order to get to saftey. In the Balkans the Gauts have invaded and are plundering their way towards Constantinople, hoping to use the invincible walls to hold off the Huns. The Alemannez have the same idea however they have been slower getting out of Italy than the Gauts over the Danube, therefore are behind the Gauts in the race. The Subez have also crossed the Danube but they are heading for Athens and the Roman Imperial fleet there, hoping to use it as a means of escape across the Roman's lake ((Med Sea)). The Emperor Valens of the East is away on Campaign in Syria but will soon be returning to fight the Gauts and Alemannez.
About the only people that are not afriad are the Saxonz dogs, for they have become lords of Britannia and have the Sea between them and the Huns if Germania and the Twin Empires fall.
Summer 367AD
The Poles have fallen utterly. A second great battle has been fought. The result was the same as the first. However the whole of the Polish people was destroyed this time around.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-57-46-93.jpg
As a result the Poles have either died or fled into the north forests were the Huns cannot go due to cavalry's limitations and ae much safer there than we are for our forests are nowhere near as thich as the Baltic ones. The Huns have begun to head south rather than west. They haveencircled the Iron Sky Mountains and have the Vampire Lords trapped within the valleys of said mountains. The tribes that surronded those mountains, however, were obliterated as if they were never even there. The chaos on the River Danube has just BARELY prevented them from crossing. The Emperor Valens has hurried home at the news that the Huns would soon invade his empire. He has arrived at Constantinople, our spies have reported and his vertans will soon march north to confront the Gauts, Alemannez, and Subez.
There are also reports that the Abandoned Tribes have left the fold of the High Gods and embraced Christianity. But this is not the Christianity of Rome. No this variant is peached by the followers of a man named Arius, whom says that the angels are things that they are not. Arius himself was killed by the Emperor Constantine Magna many years ago but his words still would not die. Now our former brothers have fallen to his lies. It is a sad, sad world where such things can happen. The Huns and their demon masers are responsible for all of this. THAT i am sure of. It will be up to my people to save this world from the monsters, for the Twin Empires are full of cowards and the other tribes have either fallen or be destroyed by the Huns themsleves. This cannot happen or the Demons that the Lady worked so hard to destroy will rise again. THAT CANNOT HAPPEN!!!!! NOT AGAIN!!!

Go Huns GO! Show the Settled peoples who are the true future rulers of the earth!! :whip: :laugh4:
(Just a question: as I read the first act i noticed it showed the perspective of two people on the opposit side. Is the 2. act going to be liket it or will it stay singular like it has till now??:dizzy2:)

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
@Maion--- Thnx for the correction, since my Greek is well..... non-existant i guess that i was using that wrong.
@HunGeneral--- Dont worry i have plans for your "precious" Huns (insert super evil laugh here). Also i will diversify the POVs asap. However, i must set up more of the plot, so Aioulfuz still has plenty of time left.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Here comes a SUPER EPIC post for all of you history buffs.
Chapter Eight: Great Battle
Autumn 368AD
The news from the Balkans is devastating. After the Gauts fled the Danube, the ones that stayed were annihilated. This drove the Gauts into a feared frenzy of panic. They have surged south en-masse heading STRAIGHT for Constantinople. They pray to their new God for guidance and help, and at the same time killed innocents and plundered villages in their flight toward the Capital. The Emperor Valens had not been idle however. His two veteran legions had returned from a camapign in Syria almost a year ago. The new threat provided by the Gauts forced the Emperor to take the field once again. His army marched north to confront the Gauts.
The Gauts had settled in to siege the city of Adrianople. The day of the great battle, the Gauts were waiting on their cavalry to return from a foraging raid. The Romans utterly surprised the Gauts with their apperance. The leaders of the Gauts, Fritigern and Alaric, came up with a desperate plan. Alaric went out to stall the Romans, while Fritigern hurriedly sent messengers out for the cavalry to return immedaitley. Alaric is a very crafty man indeed, for he managed to keep negotiations going for nearly half the day before they fell out.
At this point the Romans formed up outside of the Gautic camp, ready to attack.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-36-25-33.jpg
The Gauts, having no other real choice, formed up to protect their wives, children and treasures.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-36-16-87.jpg
As the Romans marched forward......
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-36-57-59.jpg
....the Gauts set the fields before them on fire. This was to hamper their progress and to infuriate them as well, to disrupt the Roman formation.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-37-11-18.jpg
The ash and smoke did in faact enrage the Romans, however the Emperor Valens saw this and ordered that if an of his men broke formation they would be executed and so would their families. The threat worked, for no Romans broke rank. The Gauts then tried to disrupt the Romans by firing arrows into the air and having them land straight down upon the Roman heads.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-38-32-89.jpg
This failed miserably. At this point the Gauts had run out of time, for the Romans assulted the walls of their camp.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-39-53-37.jpg
Some of the Roman archers even strated to fire into the Gauts ranks, and at the Gautic women and children. The enraged Gauts ALMOST broke rank, but Fritigern barley managed to keep order amongst them.
It did not take the Romans long to break down the Gautic walls.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-42-29-18.jpg
Fritigern ordered the spearmen forward to halt them. The spearmen couldnt halt them entirely and began to take heavy losses. Then Fritigern ordered his levies forward. They didnt halt the Romans either. Fritigern in desperation then ordered his reserves forward, and went with them. It took all of THAT to bring the Roman war machine to a halt. However the Gauts were still taking heavy losses. The batte became increadibly desperate for the Gauts.
Then suddenly horns blew in the distance. The thunder of hooves came out of the hills behind the camp.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-43-26-85.jpg
The Gautic cavalry had arrived. The Gauts still alive cheered with all of their heart and engaged the romans as best as they could to givew the cavalry time to do their grizzly work. Their first target, the Roman cavalry, including the emperor Valens' personal bodyguard. The Roman cavalry hurtled forward to halt the Gauts.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-44-21-79.jpg
When the two bodies of horseflesh and men met, the crash was deafening. When many of the men recovered the Roman cavalry had been wiped from the face of the earth, and what was left of it was fleeing. The Gauts could not see the Emperor among them. The Romans couldnt either and began to panic. This sealed their fate for they broke foramtion. That was all it took.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-45-13-72.jpg
The mass of fools was wiped out almost to a man.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-46-44-08.jpg
It was a total rout for the Romans. and what was worse was that out of the whole Eastern army, which was comprised of only FIVE legions, two had just been obliterated. The crippled Eastern military is in total shambles. Panic gripped the streets of Constantinople. Levies have been quickly raised to fight the demonic Gauts as they put them. The siege should be starting soon, if it has not already, according to the reports. I look at this description with horror. The Romans are THIS WEAK!?!?!?! How in Hel are we supposed to get help in they cant even put down some rebel tribesmen?!?!?! I shudder at the thought of what the Huns will do when they reach us, all alone as we are. I hope the High Gods have a plan, for if not the world WILL fall to these demons. Of that i am sure.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Im kind of sad now. It took me three tries to get that battle right in the last chapter and noone even recognizes it. :furious3:~:mecry:~:mecry:~ Oh well. Just to let you guys know i recreated that battle after a historical one, so i hope u guys enjoyed it.
Chapter Nine: First Blood
Spring 370AD
I write this at the celebration of a great victory, our first against the Huns. While we have drawn first blood, the Huns are FAR from finished. Let me begin.
It was nealy three weeks ago that we recieved news of the Huns' invasion of Germania. They destroyed the scout forces along the Wesser and marched west. The High King put out a general call to arms and gathered the Royal Army in Gawjam-Dezeroz, the Capital. I was amongst those that marched east with him. We passed the Oder without incedent. However on the eastern fringes of the German forests we encountered the Hunnic Hordu that was attacking Germania.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-58-09-21.jpg
They formed up on a clear hill and we were forced to prepare at the bottom of this hill.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-55-54-77.jpg
We looked at what we faced. It was not the gigantic demon horde that had cushed Poland. However the High King figured that we only faced a single piece of the Greater Hordu. The battle was soon to begin when we heard much noise from our right. It appered that the Franx had responded to the call to arms.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...8-56-05-31.jpg
We actually beileved that we stood a chance at that point, for the Jarl of the Franx guard the Rhine against the Romans and has access to advanced Romanweapons thorugh tradin and raids. The rest of the tribes and Jarldoms must get such weapons by trading with the Franx, so they have the most of them by default. The noise however attracted the attention of the Hunnic warlord as well. He ordered most of his Hordu after the Franx.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-01-06-42.jpg
The High King was stunned by this turn events. The hill was what had made him afraid to attack. Now that it was nearly abandoned he ordered a full charge straight up it.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-03-16-24.jpg
We surged up the hill like lunatics. We did encounter some Hunnic infantry on the way up. These were of a better quality than the Hunnic infantry that had been reported in Poland. However in spite of that they were still FAR inferior to our warriors. They broke easily.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-04-16-67.jpg
I was with the cavalry at this point. We chased the Horsebows off the hill itself.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-04-23-81.jpg
While they fled before us we chased them a little ways.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-04-23-81.jpg
Then, thinking them crushed, we made to regroup with the infantry. Halfway back we got hit from behind by archer fire. The Horsebows had returned with avengence. The cavalry was forced to split in half. I had been dismounted so i went with the half that made for the infantry. The other half went after those horsebows, we didnt see them for the rest of the battle. When my half reached the infantry, the hill was ours. However we began recieveing fire from the other side of the hill. More Horsebows, probably the resevres. The rest of the cavalry and some ofthe infantry went after them. More of us began to go, but it was then that we heard the sounds of more battle horns from the forests below the hill.
The Franx had been broken.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-06-51-33.jpg
We watched as their few remaining Shield Wheels were surrounded and crushed. Some of the men on the hill began to speak of fleeing. I killed one of them to restore order. Then i ordered them to form a biouvack of Shield Wheels to protect the infantry atop the hill.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-12-58-11.jpg
However the Skudjonez werent at the top of the hill. They were trying to cover the Franx retreat. I yelled at them to come up the hill and get inside the Biouvack. They didnt hear the command. It was then however that the Hunnic cavalry turned their attention to the Skudjonez. The Huns emerged behind the Skudjonez hurtled THROUGH them.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-05-53-27.jpg
It was as if the Skudjonez didnt even exist.
We then saw the main body of the Huns coming out of the woods below our positions on the hill. Barley a third of them had been killed in fighting the Franx. We readied ourselves as best as we could.
Then the rain began.
It was as the scouts in Poland described. The Hunnic Horsebows put out so many arrows that it looked as if it was raining. However this rain was lethal, not life-giving. About 1/4th of the biouvack was killed in the rain. However the Huns ran out of arrows after a while and we were still there. The Hunnic warlord became infuriated. He then decided to surround our postion with his cavalry. He then came forward and halt 300 hands away from our postion. He then spoke in accented Slavic a language i understood. I will write the conversation down as best as i can remember.
The Hun yelled at us, "DOGS!!! I wish to see your warlord before me NOW!!!" I replide in my best slavic to the bastard, "Well you will have to ask nicer than that DEMON!" At this the Hun laughed a sickeneing laugh and said to me,"Well i can assume that you are in charge of this group of curs then?" I came to the front of our lines and said,"Yes i am foul one. What do you want of me before you die?" The Hun laughed again and said, "Such arrogance from a lesser being. You certainly seem confident little cur. However look around you. You are surrounded, cut off from all help, and soon to be slaughtered. However i am impressed by your peoples strenght and bravery. If you surrender you will be spared and given positions amongst the infantry of my army. What do you say to that, eh?" I looked at him like he was insane, which i clearly thought he was. "Germans NEVER surrender FOOL! I would never even wish to become like the poor bastards that you call infantry. To us killing them was a mercy for the poor filth. And YOU and your ilk deserve to die for the crimes that you have commited against inummerable peoples. We will see to that, rest assured." The Hun looked at me with a curious look, and then he said to me,"Tell me little dog were is it that you get such arrogance and courage from?" I said to him,"I could ask you the same question demon. But as for me and my people, we are FREE MEN, we keep ourselves free by being strong. People such as you whom seek to rob men of their free will for power and cruelty are scum that must be purged from the Earth." The Hun said,"You are wrong little dog. Strength comes from the ability to put people before you in their place, such as i will soon do with you, one way or the other. If you have power you MUST use it to better yourself and worsen others. Otherwise power is worthless. If you will not be put in your place by reason, then it WILL BE BY THE SWORD!!!"
At that point we broke off the conversation. Battle began in earnest as the bastard sent his cavalry to assil us from all sides at once. The fighting was brutal. The Shield Wheels barely managed to hold them off with their spears. The Runic-Hand swordsmen fought like mad dogs, with their firey swords burning thorugh man and horse alike.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-14-33-39.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-15-13-30.jpg
One of the Shield Wheels broke after the third charge.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-15-40-62.jpg
So we reorganized the biouvack before the fourth one.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-28-14-39.jpg
This formation broke most of the remaining Hunnic cavalry. The enraged warlord then ordered his infantry forward, himself with them. While the infantry was worthless, his bodyguards were the best horsemen i have ever seen. However in the end we overwhelmed his men.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-29-04-98.jpg
At one point i met the warlord in battle and killed his horse out from under him. However instead of showing me his so called strength he fled, getting on another horse whose rider had been killed. I roared at him to come back and face me if his strength existsed at all. He only glared at me as he rode away with one of his guards.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...9-29-47-52.jpg
We cheered victory but did not leave our position until another hour had passed, just to be sure that there were no more of these demon out in the woods. When we dertemined it to be safe we when over to the piles of bodies and began surching for survivors. There were few to be found. The High King returned with the cavalry that night. I was awarded for my valor and command ability. However even though it was a victory we lost almost 2/3s of the army. As for the Franx, well out of 9000 Franx only 600 returned home alive. I hope that we can survive this kind of war. For, no matter what people say and hope and pray, it has only just begun.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
The old man reaches over and grabs another book. "Who wrote this one grandpapa?", the little boy asks. He smiles at his grandson, "A wise lady did." He opens it. It is written in Greek.
((BTW i am attepmting to use Greek. If i screw up plz correct me. That means u Maion.:beam:))
Chapter Ten: Revolution
Spring 370AD
(From the Greek book:)
My name is Zoe Archias. My family has just taken the reigns of power from the former Romaioi governors. As we have become quite rich i have taken up writing in this Codex. My brother has taked me with writing down the Histories of our newly freed people. Im afraid it will not be an easy start.
After Valens's defeat against the Barbaroi, things have grow rather chaotic. In particular the tribe of Goths, whom crushed Valens, have been killing and murdering good Greek peoples. We have currently repelled an attack by the Goths on Konstantinopolis itself.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-01-22-72.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-59-51-43.jpg
This has secured my brother, Basil, the Basilieon. However it is a much reduced Basilieon thatwe have gotten from the deal. All that we hold for certain at this point is Konstantinopolis and its surroundings, Krete, Hellas, Makedonia, Rhodos, Kypros, the western shores of Mikra Asia, and Southern Epiros.
After their defeat at Konstantinopolis, the Barbaroi fled south down past the Hellespont, and into Mikra Asia. Several other Barbaroi tribes followed them. They Goths are heading for Aiegyptos. The Langobards have claimed Syria and Antiochea as their own. Meanwhile the Alemannoi have claimed Thrace as their own. Aiegyptos is in flames, many of the natives attepmting to throw off the rightful rule of the desendants of Alexandros; as is most of the wheat crop for the next twenty years. The Vandals ((In German Subez)) have catured half of the Imperial fleet outside of Salonai. They have sailed for parts unknown. I can only hope that they meet their deaths out on the Mare Mesogeios.
My brother will have a hard road rebuilding this Basilieon, but i am more than confident that we can do it. After all ours is the blood that defeated the Barbaroi Persians at Marathon, Salamis, Issus and Granicus. We whom conquered and colonized the world, we whom gave rise the Megas Alexandros, we whom brought civilization to the Romaioi. However that last one was to our later regret.
My brother has appointed our cousin Anthimos as his high general. I can only hope that we can defend against Barbaroi like those, i think it is said as Huns. The stories i have heard about the north bank of the Danube..UGH!!!.. it is HORRIFIYING!!! And if we cannot the same things will happen to good Greeks not just other Barbaroi. However i must be off, for i have courtly matters to attend to.

@HunGeneral YAY!!!!! Someone recognizes it.:smash::beam::beam::beam::2thumbsup::yes:
Well i do my best to serve. I was intending it to be a twin set of books. One covering the collapse of Roman power in the East, the other about the Hunnic wars. So there are ur multiple POVs.

Chapter Eleven: Of Egypt
(From the Greek book:)
Autumn 371AD
The news from Aiegyptos is grim, very grim indeed. We have apperently lost the province to native rebels. We managed to get the majority of Greek citizens out. The rebels rose in the south after Valens's defeat at the hands of the Goths. The battles were bloody and hard fought.
Even after all of the victories....
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-51-44-78.jpg
...all of the battles....
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-57-49-56.jpg
...and bloodshed...
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-01-48-87.jpg
....we just couldnt put down the filthy barbaroi. Our Basileus finally decreed that the army would pull out and so would all Greek citizens still loyal to the throne. The army and refugees fled to the port village of Makieson, Alexandria having already fallen to the rebels.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-07-38-48.jpg
However the Aiegyptai follwed them to the coast and surrounded the town.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-07-49-77.jpg
The remains of the Imperial fleet was anchored offshore, awaiting the citizens and soldiers. However they were cut off by an army of rebels.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-07-58-86.jpg
The battle for the village was short and swift, but VERY brutal.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-10-35-88.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-10-52-84.jpg
However in the end we pushed the rebels off for long enough so that the citizens could flee. We even managed to get most of the army away as well. However we have lost Aiegyptos, and many fear we will never reclaim it. The troops have been reassigned to the northern frontiers. I must leave off for now, duty calls.
Spring 372AD
Well the Aiegyptai have once AGAIN been conquered. The Goths overwhlemed them almost three months ago. They besieged Alexandria and crushed what forces the rebels had within.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-21-08-73.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-28-38-79.jpg
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-37-17-29.jpg
After butchering the inhabitanats as heathens and establishing their "Arian" churches within, they then proceeded to travel down the Nilos and butchered many natives and replaced them with their own peoples. The few Aiegyptai that remain are slaves to the Goths. We have also recieved reports of Akkadian attacks on the Levant and Syria. The Langobards are having "fun", as they term it, with the prisoners. What is this world coming to? These vile heretics and demons are acting against God's will. They must be for God would never allow for such evils to occur. My brother is putting the army back together from scratch. We are leaving behind the infantry for they proved how useless they were at Adrianopolis. I can only hope that cavalry does a better job. I must be off, for i need to sleep.

OMFG LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. This made me lol for 8 seconds. I think hurt myself loling.
As for what it is, that is SUPPOSED to be a unit of Berber peasants trying to hold off the Gothic cavalry. I find that bug a LOT during my games. The units "ocsilate" they shrink and then grow back to normal size and shape a BUNCH. Look at the Gothic cav in front of them and u will see that they are missing their legs. It affect all units on the map. Been trying to solve this for almost two YEARS now. Cant really find nothing.
Besides its just a graphics thing. It doesnt affect the gameplay at all. But i have been trying to keep out pics like that to avoid posts that are:
WTF!?!? OMFG FL4T TR009Z!!!!!!
Sorry that this one slipped through.:embarassed::embarassed::shame:

No I'm glad it did, it's always nice to see something funny after reading about mass carnage.:laugh4:
-
Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Well i just tried to get the battle of Carthage done. That had to be the WORST set of bugs ive EVER seen. I mean two units of spearmen had one of those mass suicide of the wall moments.:furious3::furious3::furious3:
The siege tower makes it to the wall fine, the units climb up it perfectly and then, when trying to get from the tower to the top of the wall this happens....
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-49-04-85.jpg
They step off of the tower and about HALF of them fall THROUGH THE WALL?!?!?!?!? And that was only the first unit.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...2-49-12-12.jpg
The next unit up the walls lost 90% of its men to this bug. If i removed the wall there would be a PILE of dead bodies there. The whole "unit ocsilation" bug was running full Blast most of the battle. There is another common bug for me. The dead bodies will sometimes "GROW" out. This means to me that their pixels expand MASSIVELY, royaling $!@$!ING up my view of the battle. That was running full speed WTF during the battle. AND i SWEAR that i saw one of the WRE units running in the air next to the wall top for three seconds before reverting to the ground next to the wall like they were supposed to be. I didnt take many during this battle. The WTF factor was too massive.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Twelve: The World in Flames (Part One)
(From the Runic book:)
Spring 377AD
Death. It has become a part of my daily life these days. I see the dead everyday, haunting me, blaming me for their fate. Its not my fault that they died. ITS NOT!!!!!!! Over the past six winters i have been in command of much of the eastern marches. So many have died.
After their first loss to us, the Huns tried six more invasions of Germania. They have all failed, thanks in large part to my efforts, and to those of the people of Germania. The High King has had to deal with MANY issues that forced his attentions to other places. First the poisoning of his wife and two daughters. That was a feat the Huns tried to pull off in order to weaken the Royal family. Out of that debacle only the High Kings youngest Daughter survived. This due to the fact that she was at my hall that evening. The High King trusts me with his life after this event. I am honored, but i believe that if he keeps this pace up i may have to help his daughter onto the throne sooner that we hoped.
There was also the treaty with the Romans. After Adrianople, the Eastern Romans collapsed into chaos. However a Greek family managed to pull much of that Empire out of the chaos. However the Greek Empire, or Byzantium as they call themselves, has declared independace from Rome. The Romans that remain are too weak to reclaim it. There have been several plauges within the Roman Empire. With the Huns out there we believed that the Romans would give us aid to stop them, for we were sure that they could see the threat that was posed to them as well.
We were wrong. The fools claimed that internal troubles prevented them from aiding us, and that we could take care of it handily. Coming back from the delegation, i was stunned. These idiots were leading themselves to their own destruction. And we were still alone. No help, no extra weapons, no ANYTHING.
However recently the Huns have stopped sending their elites at us. They have instead been sending their slave soldiers and undead minions to try and overwhelm us with sheer numbers. They will continue to fail as long as they keep at it this way, at least if i have anything to do with it. Just last week we drove back a huge number of slaves and their overseers that were meancing minor Gawjams along the Wesser.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-53-08-61.jpg
We have lost many. The death rate, however, has fallen with the quality of the enemy. This reprieve is a welcome one for many of us. New warbands are being trained. New walls are being built. New alliance are attempting to be formed. I only hope it is enough.
(From the Greek book:)
Spring 377AD
DAMN THE BARBAROI!!!!!! They have taken Carthago as well. We recieved words from our spies in Roma that Carthago fell to the Vandaloi, using OUR fleet.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-56-02-16.jpg
The Vandaloi have made their home in the Northern Africanian territories. The Basileus has declared a state of emergency due the loss of so MANY grain sources. We may not be able to feed all of the true Greeks this year, much less the slaves. The Westerners are attempting to raise their grain from Silicia and Magna Graecia. We dont have such breadbaskets or such luck. But i guess it cant be helped.
We have reiceved words of war to our east. The Akkadianoi are fighting the Sassanids. The Sassanids have invaded and overwhelmed the pagan Akkadianoi in Media and Ectebana. The reason for this war is the Sassanids claim that the Akkadianoi god Marduk is the same god that the Persians worship, Ahura-Mazda. Their god has declared that the Akkadains displase him by worship other alongside him. He has tried over the centuries to convert them away from their other dieties Ishtar, Tirgis, and Euphrates. As his efforts have been crushed into nothing so many times he has finally declared a Holy War upon them. The fight goes poorly for the Akkadianoi. To be honest though few of them actually resist the advances of Ahura-Mazda's troops, due to the fact the many Akkadianoi have worshiped Marduk for centuries, practicing his religion in all but name. The gods Tigris and Euphartes have not been seen in centuries. In truth it is only Ishtar whom resists this Sassanids. And from what we have heard of this bitch over the centuries, i am kind of glad to see that she will soon be overthrown. The stories involve human sacrifices and blood soaked rituals of pain, sex, and death. Thingc that i cant even think about bearing to repeat are a daily occurence with her.
Well i must be off for i have important courty matters to attend to.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Twelve: The World in Flames (Part Two)
(From the Runic book:)
Summer 377AD
The Huns are fighting hard to try and kill us once more. However it isnt just us anymore. They have made large scale raids into the Roman Empire, via the Danube....
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...3-48-22-60.jpg
.......and the lands of the vile Alemannez on the Danube's southern banks. It has also coem to our attention that these filth have even stopped worshiping their foul version of Christianity and instead worship demons.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...0-16-44-10.jpg
How they do not just succumb to the demon-gods of the Huns we dont know at this time.
While both sets of raiders have been repelled, it has proven that the peoples beyond the rivers are just as vurnerable as those of Germania and the steppes. I can only hope that this provokes the Romans' ire enough to aid us in our plight. If the battles keep up there wont be much left of our people, even if we DO survive.
There is news of the world beyond Germania as well. The Sassanids have attacked the ancient Akkadian Empire over holy issues. The Akkadians are currently holded up in Babylon and Charxis. The city of Ur is coming close to being obliterated, only the foul godess Ishtar keeps that city proped up. They will soon fall. The Gauts have taken Egypt and the Subez have crushed Carthage. And the Saxonz have completed the conquest of Britannia. They currently hold the entire coast up to the former wall of Hadrian, to the Moutains of Wales, and everything in between.
Soon however there will be a summit of all the major European powers that wish to meet and discuss the threat of the Huns. I can only hope that this will secure an alliance with them.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Twelve: The World in Flames (Part Three)
(From the Greek book:)
Autumn 377AD
I HATE Germania. This land is cold, wet, marshy and impossible to see in. My brother, in all of his wisdom as Basileus of the Arche Byzantiou, hs sent me here to negotiate a treaty with the barbaroi and westerners. The Huns have been destroying many lands around ours and my brother believes that good Greeks will soon fall to those monsters swords as well. After all they have raided the Romaioi northern most borders on the Danube. When we heard that the barbaroi called a meeting of all the great powers of Europa to discuss the Hunnic threat, our Basileus sent me to be his royal emissary to the meeting. Now i kind of wish he hadn't. While i wanted to get away from the palace, i did NOT want to catch fever and die while doing so. And i fear that is what may happen if i stay here for much longer.
The trip up here was hell, PERIOD. After leaving the city, we boarded a ship across across the Mare Mesogeios. We landed in Aquileos, and began our march north. On the south side of the Alps the climate was fair and dry. However once you pass those mountains it becomes cold, and wet almost everyday. I cant understand HOW the barbaroi survive in this kind of weather, it would drive me insane. My guards said much of the same thing. However once we reached the Danube we were put on a boat the headed up the river, to its stream base in the Alps. We marched to the Rhenus and boarded another boat to sail to the coast. There we left the dinky little boat to board a German vessel, although looking back it really wasnt that much of a trade off. The "ship" was only marginally bigger than the river boat and only a bit more water tight. Of course this made me ill for most of the trip. My guards did all they could but all the barbaroi did was laugh and say what i THINK to be, "All she needs to do is get her sea-legs." I never managed to find them.
Our final destination was the city of Arhus. If this placer is what the barbaroi call a city then they have never seen a village, much LESS a place like Constantinopolis, in the civilized world. All this place is a jumped-up village with stone walls to be honest. And a DAMN poorly constructed village at that, its FAR too drafty here. The main hall is at the bottom of a hill, atop which is their temple to whatever gods these heathens worship and their "Fighting Hall" or barracks.
I must go for we begin negotiations tommorow.
(From the Greek book:)
BAH! These negotitations are going to take a LONG while if this is how the barbaroi expect us to behave within them. The emmisary is a barbaros named Aioulfus. He is a tall, lanky fool with dirty red hair and a pair of smallish eyes. This man was appointed by their High King try and make a del to save thier nation without cost to themselves. He wants us to lend them troops to fight of the Huns before they can reach the inner portions of their homelands. The only thing they offer us in return is the same deal towards us. If that barbaros thinks its that simple then he is a true FOOL. We have wages and repair costs to consider, as WELL as the transport issues and how would we feed all those men so far from our supply lines? I guess we shall have to continue negotiations tommorow. I hope can make this fool see sense.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Ok, I'll make some preliminary corrections until someone more qualified arrives.
Arche Byzantium = Byzantium is Latin; Arche Byzantion (Arche Byzantiou?)
Romanoi = Romaioi
Mare Mediterraneum = also Latin; Mesogeios
Constantinopolis = so is it called Byzantion, still Constantinopolis, or both used interchangeably?
she = :laugh4::laugh4::inquisitive::dizzy2::sweatdrop: :smash:

Arche Byzantiou is not wrong, but I'll tell you what's wrong here. You see, the word "Byzantion" wasn't used at that time. The Byzantine Greeks called themselves "Romaioi" (Romans) and their Empire "Imperium Romanorum" or "Autokratoria Romaion" in Greek. They still considered themselves descendants of the old Roman Empire, not a new Greek Empire. The Greek element just happened to be prevalent.
As for the capital, it's Konstantinoupolis (ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΥΠΟΛΙΣ=Η ΤΟΥ ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΥ ΠΟΛΙΣ or Constantine's city) in Greek.

Re: The Story of Souls: A Sweboz AAR
Chapter Twelve: The World in Flames (Part Four)
(From the Runic book:)
Autumn 377AD
Well all i can say is that it has been one INSANE day. The Huns managed to get a force of their subject peoples onto stolen boats and attack the negoitations. We drove them off of course. However this event may set back negotiations by a bit due to the fact that the obsitnant Greek princess that is their offcial emmisary is an idiot. I believe the girl's name to be Zoe at least that is how they say it. She is a rather short woman with jade green eyes and light brown hair, as well as a broken nose that appears to have healed wrong. She is a clever opponent that is for sure, always on the lookout for ways to benefit her people and herself at our expense. As we tried to work out the terms she insisted that her people could not feed and resupply the troops that far from the supply lines of their kingdom without recompense. And when we asked if they could do the same for us she started giving dogy answers to try and trick me into signing her agreements. The Roman ambassador is a military general that has almost no experience and is a very forgettable type of person. He generally supports the princess rather than see sense. All that i can say is WHY on earth are "civilzed" peoples so hard to deal with? We shall just have to see how negotiations go tommorow.
(From the Greek book:)
Same Day
I am frightened at this point. I expected the negotiations to go the same as yesterday. They were until a messenger broke into the cuncil room saying that the city was besieged by Hunnic forces. I was shocked and turned to vent my anger on the idiot that was in command of this city, Aioulfus the emissary. However he stopped me RIGHT before i could begin and told me that if i wanted to survive the day a free woman that i needed to shut my mouth and get every soldier that i had in my guard to the walls as soon as possible. I began to scream at him some more for his sheer insolence. However it was then that i heard sounds of panic from the streets. As we raced outside i saw the surrounding villagers fleeing into the city gates. The barbaros then turned to me and said these words.
"Like i said, we will not survive the day if you continue to carry on like a drunken mule." I realised that he was right for the moment and planned on making him miserable once we defeated the rabble that were currently raiding this place. I summonded my guards and told them to report to the walls. As we moved up to them i saw several group of those pointy eared people that the barbaroi call "Elves". They certainly are a graceful people, that much i can say, even if they are not human. Many of the elves i saw were arming themselves for battle, grabbing spears, bows and armor, in general, preparing themselves for death. I then reached the walls with my bodyguards and saw Aioulfus ordering many troops into place upon and behind them. He saw us and told my men to stand behind the gates to prevent the ram from reaching the walls. I looked at him confused. "If they JUST got here, how can they have a ram?", i asked him. He turned to me and said, "Are you being serious? Or do your people really know NOTHING about Huns?" "The latter im afraid", i replied. "Well then please go atop the walls and view them for yourself. Maybe then you will see how much of a threat they REALLY are.", he told me. I did this. When i reached the top i saw several thousand warriors that did not ride horses. "Dont the Huns ride Horses that are black with the blood of the slain?" i asked the barbaros. "These are merely Hunnic enslaved raiders, attempting to break up our meetings here.", he told me, "But see those horsemen at the back?" I looked in the direction he was pointing and saw, to my eternal horror, black horses decked out in human skulls, with twisted creatures atop their back. "THOSE are Huns, obivously the slave masters and the cause of the black magics that are being performed before us.", he said to me. I then looked and saw ladders, a ram, a siege tower, AND a tunnel base. "How.....", I began. "Black magics.", he responded. Then it began.
I was afraid at this point for we had few soldiers here.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-06-20-55.jpg
And while the enemies numbers, which were nearly three time that of our own, usually wouldnt matter due to the stone defenses, the siege weapons that had appears before the walls made thing FAR harder on us.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-06-27-09.jpg
The battle began in eanest with the rams and ladders making a quick march to the walls. However the elven archers, who are INCREDIBLE shots as it turns out, began to fire into the slave soldiers en-masse, as did the Guard Archers that had accompained me here. It made little difference. As soon as the ladders got close me and three of my bodyguards ran to the gatehouse tower to hide with some elven archers, and stand more of a chance. Aioulfus took the royal guards that had been sent to the town up to the walls to repel the enemy, as well as some strange looking swordsmen. They were covered in drawings upon thier persons and looked as if they glowed with white light. The ladders came up. He taunted and jeered at the men climbing them.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-10-26-59.jpg
Then i looked out to the front and alomost cried for joy. The enemy ram was aflame
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-11-00-59.jpg
I ordered my men below the gatehouse to stand down, for there was no longer a ram to worry about. However we then heard a THUD on the wall to our right. The enemy siege tower had landed troops atop an underguarded section of the walls.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-14-01-35.jpg
The enemy also began to pour over the walls from the ladders. The sounds of battle quickly turned to screams on insantiy that you would not normally hear in battles.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-12-20-05.jpg
I have witnessed a few battles during my brothers rise to power. What i saw then did not even come CLOSE to what i witnessed today. The brutallity, the chaos, the PURE RAGE!!!!! The Germans FLUNG their enemies from the walls. The men they failed to throw over GOT BACK UP with heads, arms and other body parts MISSING. The bloodshed was enourmous. However it was mostly on the enemy side. I the witnessed a group of soldiers with picks and shovels that glowed black.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-12-34-04.jpg
I warned my guards and as many German commanders as i could of the danger. Troops began moving as a result. However not enough archers could target them to be effective. The engineers began digging, and they approached the walls at a rate i though impossible. It only took them ten minutes to get halfway to the base. I ordered my bodyguards to be ready for the walls to collapse, as did Aioulfus. The fighting atop the walls got even more firece as the slave troops poured onto the walls. I was forced to flee twice across the walls. However the enemies were finally pushed off. However this had bought the sappers enough time to do their works. And they did them WELL.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-17-34-89.jpg
A massive breach was opened up, however i barley remember it for i was flung from the walls due to the violent shocks that they reiceved during the collapse. I awoke atop a German corpse that i had fallen upon. As i dusted myself off i heard a BOOM behind me. The main forces of the Germans, Romaioi and my bodyguards met the enemy head on at the breach.
https://i477.photobucket.com/albums/...1-19-46-29.jpg
I had recieved minimal sword training some years earlier, and i saw a sword on the corpse. I grabbed it and his chain mail shirt to armor myself. It didnt fit properly but i was too scared to really care all that much. I met up with a few of my bodyguards and we tried to fall back. However the fighting caught up with us and we got pushed forward. The enemy infantry fell back, thankfully. However it was then that the Huns came forward. The German spears and the main unit of my bodyguards went forward to meet them while i and two of my guards stayed at the breach to try and organize a suitable defense. The Romaioi commander went to the gatehouse to sally forth and try to outflank them, a suitible tacit for any situation BUT this one. We watched as the two forces met.... and the Huns MELTED German spears away. The slave infantry the took advantage of the situation and chased them back to the breach. I ordered my bodyguards forward to try and halt the Huns before they got to the breach. The two forces met... and i watched proud Greeks get obliterated almost to a man. One of those demons saw me and came at me full speed. He blasted my two guards into the dust and then charged me. I dived under his horse and raised my sword. I managed to hang on to the sword as his horse was disembowled all over me. He got up from the fall while i was throwing up. He was still dizzy and somehow i managed to take him down. Then.....i just.... lost it, i guess, started attacking him and then kept hitting him with my sword, grinding him into a meat pulp. It took me some time to finally fall down crying at the HORRORS i had just witnessed. I thought,'This is not battle, this is EVIL.'
The German swordsmen went past me towards the battle, their bodies glowing like midday. The Hunnic cavalry them began to shine the darkest black i have ever seen before. The two forces collided and id SWEAR it on the Bible, the world around them exploded.
The German spears had managed to rally at this point and were again fighting off the slave soldiers. The Romaioi general came forward with his bodyguard to aid the Germans. however he was side tracked by some Hunnic mercinaries, effectivley rendering him useless for the battle.
The Huns and the Germans swordsmen were going at it full blast, LITERALLY. White and black lights were causing explsions all around them. It was pure chaos. However after a little while has passed, a blast of blackfire happened amongst the Huns and the whole Hunnic army collapsed. I later learned that the general had finally died an BLOODY death, and with him went the slave soldiers and the undead ones as well. Most either burned to ashes or fled the hellfields.

At this point, covered in gore and horseguts, i stood there looking at the scene before me. Aioulfus came up to me and simply said, "You might want to reconsider the treaty, your highness." At this i started laugh like a possesed person. I spent ten minutes laughing so hard it would have killed me in any other situation. Then i started crying until i finally passed out. I just awoke a little while ago.
I am considering with Frightening certainty that we may not survive this EVEN IF we are allies. However i do believe that i will sign the treaty now, damn the details.

Ok i understand where you are coming from with that. However in my timeline, after the chaos of Adrianople the Roman rulers were overthrown and Greeks took up as much of the former ERE as possible so in my timeline they consider themselves Greeks rather than Romans. Thanks for correcting my stupid ass btw.:2thumbsup:
Sorry for any confusion caused by my changes to history. :beam::laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
Also I WANT MY @!#%@#%ING keyboard to do stuff like ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΥΠΟΛΙΣ (damn my American stuff)
@ desert: AS FOR THE SHE PART: Many Dark Age women of class took up missions for their husbands and brothers when they were far to busy with other affairs to do it themselves.

Not usually as diplomats, discussing important matters of state!
These aren't the Dark Ages yet anyway. Maybe soon... :whip::skull:
Finding out she was female just surprised me; I certainly wasn't expecting it.

@ desert: Have you never heard of the Empress Zoe of Constantinople? Around the year 1056 she was crown after her brother was "removed". She fell in love with Harald Haldgraad, whom wandered Eurpoe before he went home to claim his throne. This same Viking crippled Saxon England JUST before William invaded, (Battles of Stamford Bridge and York, 1066).
She was were i got the first name from, as for the other Greek names....well go-go Wikipedia:embarassed::2thumbsup:
