Hi there, I bought rome:total war for mac and have installed the EB mod, however upon first playing rome: total war I set it as a default to not give me the start-up options menu. Therefore i tried opening it on Barbarian invasion but the campaign wont start, everytime i click on EB campaign it says 'please choose an item from the list'. I AM A NOOB PLEASE HELP ME!
James
You have to use Rome (I don't know if BI works and if it does side effects are likely). You can hold down cmd when Rome is bouncing in the dock and it will force the panel to reappear. You can then use Rome as intended.

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
Good day to everyone, I'm a new enter here and first of all I want to say you that I'm sorry for my bad English.
Probably what I'm going to ask you was already asked from someone else but I can't find it on the forums so I ask here.
I have Rome (I live in Rome yeah! :D ) Total War and I've also a mac, I downloaded European Barbarorum and follow the instructions taked from here: https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_mod.html but unfortunately when I launch the script it shows me this error:
Your Rome game folder does not have any icons on it, if you bought the game using genuine DVD this folder will have a custom folder image. I think you might be using a pirated version of the game. As you also have SerialBox (a serial code piracy tool) installed I think we can safely say that your problem is because you don't own a genuine version of the game.
So the solution is to buy a copy from an Apple store or the Feral website.

Re: Mac Version - Mac version created & hosting organised, who do I ask for permissio
Edwin, thanks for the beautiful work bringing EB to Mac, I'm really looking forward to getting back into it. I have one problem though. Although I am able to run the mod fine, in either Rome or Barbarian Invasion, I can't play the main campaign. When I click on it it just tells me to chose an item from the list (no list displayed). So I am limited to playing someone else's saved game that came with the install for some reason, a Sarmatian game I'm not really into. Also there are no historical battles to play, though that is less of an interest to me. Custom battles are OK I think.
Anyone have an idea about what I need to do to access that main campaign?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Mac Version - Mac version created & hosting organised, who do I ask for permissio
Can you please email support with screenshots of the menu with no options, your pre game options panel set to the advanced tab and a support report generated in the support tab? You can take screenshots with Cmd + Shift + 3 or using Cmd + Shift + P when in game. Please mention to support the email is for me and I will have a quick look. We are massively busy working on downloadable versions of our games so I don't have to much free time.
However I should be able to work out what is going wrong.

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
Hi Edwin,
I have just downloaded the app from the App Store..and therefore am certainly running a legit copy of the game, however, I seem to be getting the same error as the gentleman above. To wit, the terminal script seems to not be able to find the game depite its being in the applications folder as that is where the App store put it...as a result, I am unable to install mods and unable to run EB. please help. Thanks.
This is what I got after EB crashed, after a minute or so of the title screen loading. What went wrong, and how can I fix it without worsening the problem? Thank you in advance, this is rather frustrating.

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
I bought Rome Total War: Gold for Mac, and downloaded the RomeModSetup, as well as RTR and EB. I followed the instructions but I get the "please select item from list". I saw earlier someone mentioned not having properly updated. Also I don't have a separate item for Rome and Barbarian Invasion, they are combined and was wondering if maybe my problem is I am using Gold. Is there anyway to fix this for the Gold version? Thanks

Re: Mac Version - Mac version created & hosting organised, who do I ask for permissio
I basically did what Oleo said:Made a copy of Rome Data\EB\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign and renamed it barbarian_invasion
Made a copy of Rome Data\EB\Data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt and renamed it barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names.txt
Deleted Rome Data\EB\Data\world\maps\base\map.rwm
Loaded the EB mod through Barbarian Invasion. The campaign seems to work fine but the historical battles screen is still empty.
I'm using a direct download version of RTW. Not the CD. Don't know if that's important. Many thanks to Edwin, Feral and all the moders!

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
Hi all
First time ont he forum here. Bought the game from the App Store last night and can't wait to get into the EB mod, but having some problems installing it using the rome mod setup.
The problem is pretty much the same as Efilzeo had above:
1. I bought RTW from the App Store and it installed and is now in the applications folder
2. I run the rome mod setup tool
3. it says it can't find Rome Total War int he Applications folder
4. looking in the applications folder RTW is definitely there
Can it be a problem because i bought it fromt he APp Store and it installs it when you download it? I had it download over night and when i came out in the morning it said an error had occured, but when i clicked install it continued downloading and then installed the game.
When i run the normal RTW game it seems to work fine.
Any help is much appreciated. And thanks heaps for giving us RTW for Mac. Swapped over to Mac about a year ago and have been waiting for this moment!
Cheers

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
Hi all,
I have RTW gold edition, i modified the romedata.dmg, i installed RTRPE (without the romemodsetup.dmg, i made it manually), and all worked out fine.
I'm trying to use the Napoleonic Total War 2 (found on the lordz website, just google it).
I executed the .exe installer, using crossover demo (free). I end up with a folder called napoleonic, with the standard armature:
(can't find how to post a picture, so i'll describe it here)
I have 9 folders:
-campaign_map
-custom
-Data
-extras (apparently some files you can use to replace textures and smoke effects with more Hi-res ones)
-preferences
-presets
-replays
-saves
-terra (apparently some kind of new graphics for the battles, according to the season: autumn, winter, ..)
My problem is that the mod stops right after the opening picture (the one with the french grenadiers), just before the feral intro and cinematics.
I looked around, and it appears that there is no fmv folder in the Napoleonic folder.
I copied the one from the RTRPE folder, but now i'd like to know what are the .txt files i need to modify to make the intros play?
When the mod crashes, i have the following statement from console:

Thanks for the advice, i didn't go to them first, as they said they would not support modding.
Well, let's see.
Anyway, what are the files i need to convert in order to have a fully convertible mod?
I was thinking about the sound files (i have MP3 and Wav formats), the videos (.wmv).
What else?
Can somebody help me with the files i then need to modify? (like descr_sounds.txt)?
Thanks

EB works fine. Their are random CTD's, often when an enemy general is killed in battle. The issue that bothers me, is the game is fine a a few minutes, then everything(except the mouse) stops for a second before resuming. it occurs more frequently in battles. any way i can fix this?

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
Hello everyone,
It's my first post. I have EB for Windows on my desktop, but I'm going overseas and will only be able to use my Macbook. I recently downloaded EB on Mac and the game seemed fine at first when it brought me to the first loading page and main menu. However, as soon as I tried selecting the new campaign button under Single Player, the game gave me an error message saying something like "you must select a faction", even though I hadn't even reached that page yet for choosing a playable faction. I was able to play custom battles, but I also noticed all the Historical Battles were missing from the list when I went to the Historical Battles page in the Single Player menu.
So to reiterate, the game wouldn't allow me to get to the page where playable factions are chosen for campaigns, and the Historical Battles were entirely missing from the list (with just a blank space in their place).
Has anyone encountered this before? I installed the game following the explicit instructions of RomeModSetup. Is there a simple fix to this problem? Such as moving a data file into another?
Any immediate help would be very appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks a lot Edwin ! You did an amazing job making EB working on Mac. Now I can enjoy the mighty work EB team did without going through... windows.
I used to have lots of CTD, but not anymore, since the last update of RTR. There are still a few, but not more than it happened with the vanilla one.
As said before, there's some issues with sounds (specially in battle, they're sometimes cut), music (some of them are never played right) and videos (oddly, the Epeirote one does work). Well, as far as I can tell, none of the flaws above hurt my pleasure in playing EB.
Thank to Jobbysucks too. Now I can enjoy the BI improved AI.

hi edwin
i installed the rome gold edition for mac on CD on my macbook and have tried installing the EB mod but im having problems. btw this is my first post.
i installed EB onto a fresh install of rome with your mod installer as shown on the EB website. when i run the game with the -mod:eb command it runs the EB intro screen, but after a minute or so CTD. this happens every-time.
i have tried deleting the preference folder; turned on the romeshell; checked that the rome folder (blue and red folder) is in applications, which it is; adding -nm to the command incase the movie is crashing the game; setting the language to english but all to no avail. it just crashes at the same point and the mac asks if i would like to send an error report with the following error kern_invalid_address.
i have also tried running BI with the command -mod:eb with the same results.
im a bit of a technophobe and had the assistance of a friend to install the mod, but both of us are stumped as for what to do now. this post is more or less my last hope.
any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
I've found that if i want to play EB i have to restart my mac. It then starts up fine. But it seems i must restart after EVERY CTD which is maddening as they can be frequent. Could this speak to an alternative fix besides rebooting every 5 minutes? thx guys..

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
Can't say anything about Mac-specific crashes, but the engine related CTD's can be solved in most times. Read the section about it in the frequent issues.
If the crash is not Mac-specific it should be solvable!

Any suggestions? :inquisitive:

If someone could point me to a post on how to install EB (for mac) manually? Is it just putting the EB file into the Data directory of RTW? If that is the case, how do I activate the mod once the manual install is complete.

I had the problem with the 'please select an item from the list' message. I did as @jobbysucks suggested, and I can now get to the faction selection screen.
However, when I choose my faction and click on the arrow to proceed, I get returned to the 'New Game' screen rather than into the campaign. I'm trying this on a brand new install of RTW and BI from the App Store.
Any suggestions at all?
Cheers.

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
I was among many people with the "please select an item from the list" error when trying to start EB, however, I found a way around this with some other people. Not sure if this was mentioned in this thread but here are the directions anyway. Make sure you follow them precisely.
For EB to work, install it onto the RomeData.dmg. (make original .dmg read/write the copy paste the downloaded EB1.2 from the EB website onto the .dmg)
If you try to start the EB campaign you will probably encounter the above campaign error. To fix this, go in EB / data / world / maps / campaign, and copy the 'imperial campaign' folder- paste in the same directory- rename as 'Barbarian Invasion'. Then, go into EB/ data / text, and find 'imperial_campaign_regions_and#_settlement_names.txt'. C/P the same directory - rename as 'barbarian_invasion_regions_an#d_settlement_names.txt'.
Some say you can play with bi, but seeing that on twc EB people mention bi being incompatible I just play with regular rome total war through the feral launcher.
By the way, I am not sure if I am the only one who gets this minor glitch in vanilla or eb campaign, but my characters do not make any sounds as opposed to the PC version. If anyone knows a way to get around this issue please let me know how. :)
I am a moderator on twcenter.net, my name is YD23, so if you need me to be even more clear with the above directions please send me a PM on that forum. (I'm more likely to be there)
EDIT:
For those trying to install EB through the feral mod installer you're a bit out of luck. I as well get the "please make sure Rome is in the application folder" even though it is. I found a way around this. First make a folder called Rome Total War in your application folder. Move Rome Total War.app in there. I would also put the mod installer in that same folder and run it. When it says would you like to enable mod support press NO. Then press "yes" when it asks if you want to rebuild your data. It will go through and will actually make the .dmg read/write and will also install any mounted mods. It's very strange because when you press "yes I would like to enable mods", that doesn't work, but when you press NO, it does.
EB WILL not be installed through this, however. After the "mod installer" converts your .dmg to read/write you still have to paste the EB (freshly downloaded original copy of EB from EB site) into the RomeData.dmg. Then proceed with the very first directions in my post to get into the campaign.
Hope this helps. :)

Could you be missing certain rights to write new data?
Other than that, I'd start by searching the web for the particular error message, doubt that it is a RTW-specific thing.

Re: 1.2 fixes you should try before posting
Hey this is for Edwin,
Im a pretty big fan of the mod and personally insanely happen with your Mac friendly version. Except for a few bugs. Not only the movie files but the sound files as well. The music for the game is kind of glitctch and "lags" or just stops for a second then starts again every couple seconds. This happens about 90% of the time. Also Im playing as the Romani and I've been looking forward to the latin commands....There aren't any. There are completely silent on the field except for death cries and that kind of stuff. Theres also some English on the campaign map... I know this is kind of alot and Im wonderin if theres somethin im doing wrong? Message me back if other people have this problem or not... Thanks :D

I have the same issue at this, among other in this forum:
I noticed someone else asked the same question, but I did not see a solution. (unless I overlooked it)
I have all the files needed and am following the install instruction video. All is fine until I run the script to enable mods. Here is the error message I get:

rtw bought from feral d2d is installed in applications, I have enabled admin privileges, both eb and romedata are enabled as read/write, and my new macbook pro has the ability to run the game.

YES!! This worked for me. Thanks for posting. I had the "please select" error, campaign not working on Intel iMac
Seriously, tried all kinds of fixes on the Mac but this was the only one i could get to work.
I'm running RTW 1.2 (the Ferral direct download version with BI in the same app)
I have the app set to run RTW (not BI)
In the advanced tab of the app I have set
-mod:EB
Followed all your instructions and finally got a result. Nice one!

Re: EB for Macintosh - questions & support thread
Hello,
Ive read that a lot of people were having problem getting Europe Barbarorum on Mac with the Rome Total War Gold Edition, downloaded from the Apple Store.
Either some of you find the "Please select an item from the list" message, or get redirected to the main screen when you are able to choose a faction.
I downloaded Rome Total War Gold edition, and does not have the "Rome TW" red logo separated from the "Barbaric Invasion" blue logo, it has both colors and the "R/BI" icon to activate it.
I managed to get it to run using "Rome Total War Barbarian Invasion" option from the menu, making the adjustments that Oleo and other people mentioned before. I really dont know which one did the trick because I tried EVERYTHING I FOUND around here...
1) Used the Mod Installer as recommended in the official Europa Barbarorum page.
2) In Apps, look for the folder "Rome Total War". You will see there the Rome Total War icon and the RomeData.dmg
3) Change the permissions for RomeData.dmg to "Read/Write" using the "Get Info" option in the right click menu.
4) Copy the whole freshly downloaded "EB" folder into the "RomeData.dmg"
5) In that same EB folder, create a copy of Rome Data\EB\Data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt and rename it barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names.txt
6) In the EB folder, make a copy of Rome Data\EB\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign and renamed it barbarian_invasion
7) Delete Rome Data\EB\Data\world\maps\base\map.rwm
Now, here comes the trick.
When you open the RomeData.DMG directly from the main folder, you will open it and you will spot the EB folder you copied and modified, and the readwrite.txt file.
When you open the application using the icon "Rome Total War", it will load a RomeData.DMG that DOESNT have the EB folder in it, or the readwrite.txt file, and it will also show you the Play options window where you can select the game you want to play, and the advanced options to load EB.
So what I did to get it running is open RomeData.DMG through both methods, spotting in Finder that I had two "RomeData" disk images mounted.
I ejected the RomeData.DMG that was not modified, keeping the Play options window open, and my good modified RomeData.DMG disk image open.
In the options window I chose "Rome Total War - Barbaric Invasions" and in advanced I selected the old "Advanced Options" checkbox, adding ye old -mod:EB
And, well, at least for me, tadah! Could enter Imperial Campaign, select a faction and get into the map. I have not played more cause I already used up all my morning and should be working. But, bleh, wanted to share it with all you enthusiasts.
Abrazos desde CancĂșn, and happy warring!

I downloaded the EB file and the script to do the installing but both times after it ends it doesn't work. I type in the advanced options and when I open Rome it is the same thing. I've been having the same issue. I have heard users speculate that it is a matter of read/write permissions, so I've been taking each level of my RomeData--first the RomeData itself, then EB, then saves, etc) and placing it inside a new folder, which I have then set to read/write; I then applied the permissions to enclosed items. Items such as my save folder now appear as read/write. But the "save game" button on the menu in EB is still greyed out.

Re: I dont know what to do
Ok I made some progress by manually creating a dmg via the disk utility program and manually entering the data files needed for EB.
Now.....the load game intro screen hangs for about 20 seconds but it does load up = great.
However. It's CTD every time I start a campaign and choose a faction and hit the forward arrow. I've got this report. Any ideas anyone?
Process: Rome Total War [256]
Path: /Applications/Rome Total War/Rome Total War.app/Contents/MacOS/Rome Total War
Identifier: com.feralinteractive.rome

Re: I dont know what to do
Ok my saga continues.....The above CTD was due to me forgetting to delete: Data\EB\Data\world\maps\base\map.rwm
Now I am stuck.
Whenever I select my faction on the campaign screen and click on the arrow it takes me back to the new game screen and I can sit here 'happily' in an infinite loop of choosing my faction and constantly being returned to the new game screen. Has anyone experienced this and got a solution?
Thanks

Hi!
This may be a stupid question, but I have some difficulties trying to rund EB on my macbook. When I try to run the script on the rome mod setup this text shows up: Last login: Sun May 27 05:54:38 on ttys000

Then when I tried to write -mod:EB in the advanced options. Then I clicked play, but then the usual RTW ran.
So what could the problem be? Any help would be appreciated :) Sorry if my english is bad
